Abstract

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of life skills training on mental health and improve the time perspective in women with handicapped spouses. The population of this research included the women with handicapped spouses under Welfare Organization in District 18 of Tehran that among them, 60 students were selected as sample by the method of targeted random sampling and by the simple random sampling method were placed in two experimental and control groups, respectively. In order to collect information, General Health Questionnaire of Goldberg GHQ-28 (1972) and Zimbardo Time Perspective ZTPI-66 (1999) on the pre-test and post-test were used and life skills training in10 sessions was conducted on women with handicapped spouses in the experimental group. In order to data analysis, covariance analysis was used and to statistical analysis of data, the software SPSS version 18 was used. The results showed that about 14% of the variations in post test scores of time perspective, and about 13 % of the variations in the post test scores of mental health is related to impact of life skills training; So, the main hypothesis of research indicating life skills training will cause to improve the time perspective and increase mental health in women with handicapped spouses was confirmed. Given that the life skills included a set of capabilities that increase the efficient and positive adaptation and behavior, as a result, life skills training can be used as an approach in improving mental health indicators and improving the time perspective.
