BOARD CHAIR / PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE OCTOBER 2011
If a word comes to mind for the past year it would be “change.” As we prepared to say goodbye to Kay Davison for many years of outstanding service leading our organization, during the first quarter of 2011 the board entered into an extensive executive director recruiting and selection process. With great pleasure we welcomed our new ED, Joanna Matthews, to Summit Housing and Outreach Programs with an early June start. During the year the board also said goodbye to Bruce McDougall and Deb Keen, both longserving and dedicated board members with our organization.
The year ahead should prove to be exciting and dynamic for Summit Housing and Outreach Programs. One of our LHIN’s has indicated a desire for further integration with community partners, opportunities have presented for program enhancements, and an accreditation process is underway for our organization. As our organization moves forward we continue to stay true to our vision, that being: “partners in providing a better quality of life for the people we serve.”
Sincerely;
Jeff Corey, Board Chair / President

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE OCTOBER 2011
As the new Executive Director for Summit Housing and Outreach Programs it is my sincere desire to continue to lead our organization with the same strength and vision that I have come to know from our out going Executive Director, Kay Davison. Summit has built a strong client centered berth of programs that are well established and inte grated in the community of Halton. These programs support our mission to lead in sup portive housing, case management and systemic advocacy for people with serious men tal illness. Through my introduction with SHOP, I have experienced a warm and heart felt welcome from staff, clients and volunteers. Our Board of Directors has been ex tremely encouraging and supportive. The hard work and dedication of the staff has been evident from the excellence in client centered service.
As we celebrate 30 years of community based services for individuals with seri ous mental illness, we know that there is much more to do to strengthen our system. We acknowledge the support of our funders, the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care and the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network. We are encouraged by the strong provincial planning which continues to strive to make services better for the peo ple that we support. SHOP has a demonstrated history of working well in a variety of partnership initiatives with Mental Health and Addiction Agencies. It is my commitment to nurture these partnerships and seek possible new partnerships to further expand the delivery of our services and effectively collaborate in the community. I look forward to working with the Summit Housing and Outreach Team as we move forward together.
Sincerely;
Joanna Matthews, Executive Director

Overall Program Update: SHOP is very fortunate to be part of an Ontario wide implementation of the new Ontario Common Assessment of Need (OCAN) which is a client centered, recovery oriented tool that enhances our ability to capture the goals, needs, hopes and dreams of the individuals we serve. Over the next year, all SHOP programs will have the tool fully imbedded into all programs.
Assertive Community Treatment Team:(ACTT): provides multidisciplinary team services and subsidized housing to clients with the most complex mental health treatment needs. This past year has brought changes that will further enhance our services. The team welcomed a new psychiatrist, Dr. Kantor, who brings with him a wealth of experience working within the ACTT model. In order for ACTT to provide a high level of support to individuals in the community, we continue to build and develop strong relationships with community partners such as Food4Life, PACT, COAST, STRIDE and TEACH.
Justice Supportive Housing Program: provides much needed services to people facing challenges associated with a mental illness who have come into contact with the justice system. This program has provided 33 units of housing.
