Parents, please make sure that you are reviewing the skills presented daily with your child. Reinforcement and repetition is great for the child.

Read 30 minutes or more daily. When working with your child, have them to be problem-solvers. Allow the child to think on a higher level of thinking. Also, when asking questions with your child, advance them to thinking on a higher level. Review Bloom’s Taxonomy of questions to help with discussions.

Mission Statement/Student Handbook—Please, go over this with your child daily.

Agendas---This is a requirement and they need to be checked daily and signed by the parent. Homework and notes home to parents will be written in these agendas. That is why they need to be checked and signed daily.

Students need to read 25 books and/or 1,000,000 for the school year. Book reports will be given so that children can link the reading, comprehension, and type of book to that of their writing. Each 9 weeks students will read about 6 to 7 books where they be will assigned the type and possibly in the future a report will begin on it. They will report using the Story Map as their guide, find a way to share, which will be provided, and take an AR test on the book. This is a requirement to help tie in all the elements mentioned above. WE will be using various writing prompts to assist in the writing process. We ask that you help your child daily on their writing. Our goal is to have “ALL” children scoring high in all 4 DOMAINS—Ideas, Organization, Style, and Conventions.

There will be a rubric coming home that will explain this more in details.
