Spellings need to be practised regularly. We do a spelling related activity every day and it is expected that pupils spend some time learning their spellings at home each day.

When the spellings are introduced, we spend some time investigating the spelling pattern, the meaning of the words and how to use them in context.

Step One: Look!

Look at the word; try to learn to recognise it as a whole word

Say it out loud whilst looking at the word. Do it three times (the power of three!).

Then spell it out letter by letter.

Have a practise without making any marks!

Either, have a go at air writing with your finger.

Or, hold a pencil (or pretend to) and practise writing the word.
