MORE PHOTOS AVAILABLEwww.taylorroad.org/photogalleryChristopher Columbus died in Valladolid (Val-la-de-lid), Spain, in 1506. There is a

monument in that city that commemorates the great explorer. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the memorial is a statue of a lion at the base where the Spanish National Motto is engraved. The lion is reaching out with its paw and is destroying one of the Latin words that had been part of Spain’s motto for centuries. Before Columbus made his voyages, the Spaniards thought they had reached the outer limits of earth. Because of that, their motto was "No More Beyond." The word being torn away by the lion is "NO”, making it read "More Beyond." For Spain, Columbus had proven that there really was "more beyond."

The same is true for those that have discovered Jesus Christ. There really is “more beyond”. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” When you think that your faith, hope, or love is growing faint, remember Jesus showed us that there is “more beyond.” Beyond the earth, the grave, the cross, and the sky there is an unlimited supply for our needs, according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus.

Be encouraged,

Pastor [email protected]

All are welcome to attend!

7missionsCleveland Court is one of the oldest of the public housing areas in Montgomery. We began our work there 9 years ago as a part of Project Hope. The intent was to take the church to the people because, in reality, few of the residents there are churched and, therefore, relatively few have come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.

On a typical Sunday, our work there begins at 3:30 p.m. with 15 or so children and youth in the back of a pick-up truck listening as we tell a Bible story and pray. After a brief time of discussion, we have the all-important and much anticipated snack! Then, for the next few hours we go door to door focusing on discipleship, evangelism and prayer – mainly for adults. Each week a di!erent Bible lesson is used so that each conversation is centered around God's Word. Last week the passage was from John 5 where Jesus asked the man who had been in his condition for 38 years, "Do you want to get well?" That is a powerful verse because so many have learned to live with their situation. There are many visitors to Cleveland Court and frequent turnovers in occupancy so, on one hand we are always starting over; but, on the other hand, we have seen children grow up and have been able to minister to the families for years.

Two weeks ago, a 19-year-old man asked Jesus to come into his life. We have been witnessing to this person for 6 years. He said that he had always run from us in the past, but this time he wanted to listen because God had been working on him. Praise God! You don't know when a person will be ready for Jesus, but we want to be there when they are ready.

One of the key parts of the ministry has been tutoring. We have partnered with Cloverdale Baptist Church and on Tuesdays, after school, bring children and youth to Cloverdale for tutoring. We haven't been able to do that this year because of transportation issues. We really need to start this tutoring component again!

Taylor Road Baptist Church has been fantastic in its support for the Cleveland Court work. The annual Thanksgiving Meal is a great ministry and outreach tool that the community looks forward to every year. Taylor Road families adopted Cleveland Court families for Christmas this year and that was a great success. The students have gone for mission projects and to love the children through games and Bible stories. And, in past years, Taylor Road members have been very involved in the tutoring.

Our current goals for the Cleveland Court ministry are to restart the tutoring program, begin a mentoring program for adults who get saved, and to provide a Vacation Bible School for the children. We would love to have YOU involved either on an every week or part-time basis. You will be blessed, and you will be a blessing. - Steve Walker

271-3363

It is our hope that God has been speaking to some of this month’s readers about serving Him in a very meaningful way. If you believe that God is calling you to help with any aspect of the Cleveland Court Ministry, please contact Steve Walker directly or through the Church O!ce.

“You don't know when a person will be ready for Jesus, but we want to be there when they are ready.”

Currently, our broadcast control room is located at the top of the Worship Center. It's a very neat room and I sincerely invite you to check it out on a Sunday. We truly are blessed to have the equipment that we have. With that in mind though, it is a very small room. On some occasions we have had 5 to 6 people in the room at one time, creating a very cramped situation. To give us more room and to broaden some areas of the Media Ministry, we will begin preparations to move the broadcast operation to Room C202 in the Education Building. This will quadruple our current space!

One of the things that we would like to see happen, as soon as we get the additional space, is the addition of one more weekly volunteer. Recently, we began streaming our broadcast over the web using a free secular internet service called UStream. According to reports we have received, we have had as many as 13 people watching our services on recent Sundays; and, that's without any e!ort of publicizing availability of the service. There are a lot of ways – through Facebook, Twitter and even advertising online – that we can let people know our services are online and live; but, before we do that we want to have a person in place that is extremely tech savvy to represent Taylor Road well. With the internet feed, we can open chat rooms and have someone there ready to answer any questions about the church or about Jesus Christ! With the power of the internet, you could say that this is both a local and foreign mission opportunity.

If you think you might be one of the four or "ve people that I am looking for to be involved in this new opportunity, please contact me. There are a few prerequisite quali"cations: (1) You must be comfortable sharing your testimony and helping to lead people to Christ; (2) you must be internet savvy and familiar with social networking and chat rooms; (3) you must have the physical ability to type fast enough to carry on a conversation … with multiple people at one time; and (4) you must be familiar with Taylor Road Baptist Church so that you can answer questions about all the di!erent ministries so that people will want to come here to get plugged into worship and service opportunities.

We are so excited about the Easter project the Adult Choir is working on. There will be so many opportunities to become involved in the production of Chocolate Cake and Macadamia Nuts. It’s a drama, musical, pageant, sermon, all wrapped into one!!

First, please consider being a part of the Adult Choir. We are just beginning work on the music and it is absolutely some of the best Easter music I’ve ever heard. If you have been in the choir in the past, this would be a good time to come back and get involved. New members can take advantage of our listening CD to help learn the music. Please join us.

The Children’s Choir is beginning work on their Spring Musical, which will be presented on Sunday, May 2. The Children’s Choir is the best it’s ever been. Children in Grades 1-6 meet each Sunday at 5:30 p.m. to learn hymns, praise songs, and music fundamentals. They produce two or three musicals each year, all of which teach principles of the Bible. Parents, please get your children involved. Children’s Choir participants will always remember the songs, stories, and fun they have as they learn about Christ. This is a great time to get started!

Praise Him,

Alan Newman

There are some really exciting things happening in February in the Student Ministry. We have a great opportunity to grow closer in our walk with the Lord, as well as each other, on February 12-14 during our River Region Disciple Now Weekend called “Inhabit”. Students from churches all over the area will be in host homes learning how to be more like Christ and live out their faith on a daily basis. We will have several large group gatherings, as well as small group times and a mission project. Please pray for our students before and during that weekend. If you would like to donate snack foods for the host homes – chips, soft drinks, candy, etc. – please contact Keeton in the Student Ministry o!ce.

After-church fellowships this month will be on Sundays, February 7 and 21, after the evening worship services. Check the student information table for locations. As always, call or come by the Church O!ce if you have any questions or need more information.

Editorial comment: A report of the students’ January and February mission projects will be included in the March issue of Archways.

It is our hope that God has been speaking to some of this month’s readers about serving Him in a very meaningful way. If you believe that God is calling you to help with any aspect of the Cleveland Court Ministry, please contact Steve Walker directly or through the Church O!ce.
