    The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education is the authorized agency responsible forsetting educational policy in the District. Itconsists of seven members who each serve three-year terms and receive nosalary or other financial compensation.The meetings, except for Executive Sessions, are held before the public. The Board of Education may convene toExecutive Session immediately after opening the meeting. Atthe end of the Executive Session, the Board of Educationwill re-convene to the Regular Meeting.Arrival an d departure t imes of the Board of Education members shall be noted in the minutes an d within th e order ofeven ts .

    A maximum of half hour will be allocated for agenda items "Statements of Residents" with a three minute limit perindividual. Each speaker must be a resident of the District. Residents wishing to make comments or raise questionsshall state their name and address. Public discussion is prohibited on matters relating to staff and students at whichtheir reputation, privacy, or rightstodue process orthe rights ofothers to due process, could be insome way violated.Residents will be permitted to participate in Board of Education discussion and agenda item "Discussion," howeverBoard of Education members will speak first. Each resident will be limited to one input with a two minute maximum. Atime limit for residents' discussion will be no more than 10 minutes unless a majorityof the Board wants to extend thetimedue to the nature ofthe topic. Residents will address the Board and not each other duringthis discussion.Each BoardMembervoting on a motion shall be permitted to state the reason for doing so and the statement shall benoted in the minutes .Please note: This is a tentative or draftagenda. Any itemon this agenda is subject to change byaddition or deletion.

    SUBJECT: GUIDELINES FOR THE ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERSThe District may sponsor one (1) or two (2) "Open Candidatco" "'Meet the Candidates Night"meetings for the purpose of giving the School District community the opportunity to meet andquestion all School Board candidates.On the "Open Candidates' Mights" "Meet the Candidates Night'* candidates shall form a panel toanswer questions from the audience. The meeting shall be chaired by a moderator selected by thecandidates. Each candidate will be permitted up to five (5) minutes for an opening statement.Questions from the audience will then follow. Questions maybe directed to an individual candidate orto the panel ofcandidates. Although a question may be directed to an individual, other candidates mayalso respond ormake a statement regarding the question. Following the open part of the meeting, eachcandidate shall be available individually to meet and talk informally to members of the community,between the hours of 9:30p.m. and 10:00 p.m.Moderators will be selected by the following proccDo: each Board member will submit two (2) namesas candidates for moderator. A minimum of seven (7) names will comprise the list. If there arc notseven (7) names on the list, those Board members who submitted the same two (2) names will eachsubmit a third name. The list of names will be submitted to the School Board candidates. The two (2)moderator candidates who have the greatest number of selections will serve as moderators. In case atic exists for any moderator position, the selection for that position will then be determined by lottery.a process approved by the Board of Education.A typical schedule of meetings maybeorganized as follows:Open Candidates'Might''Meet theCandidates Night" - High School -Thursday in week prior toelect ionOpen Candidates' Might "Meet theCandidates Night" - High School - Monday before electionThe District Clerk will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering the meetings.The District Clerk will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of the "Candidate's Folder",which will include a copy of this policy statement, the Candidate's Questionnaire, list of moderatornames, and schedule of Candidates' meetings. The folder shall be distributed to each candidate whenthey pick up the Candidate's petition.The candidates shall return their responses to the questionnaire no later than one (1) week after thedate for filing of Candidate's petition. A 3" x 5" black and white photo must accompany thequestionnaire if the candidates wish to have their photo in the Budget Newsletter.The questionnairewill request the following information from all School Board candidates:
