Welcome Welcome Welcome Reflections:

Removing the Beam Jesus’ cautioned his disciples to be wary of those who judge their fellow men, going so far

as to even suggest they would be judged with similar standards. In Luke’s gospel we hear Jesus

ask, “Can a blind person guide a blind person?” The answer to this question is presumably no, for

both suffer from a great disadvantage. Both surely will fall into the pit and will likely become

trapped. This warning is still relevant to us today. We seek guidance in our daily lives and hope to find

direction from others. We seek help and advice from friends and family on a multitude of issues. And let’s face

it, sometimes the advice we receive is good and sometimes bad. Human judgement is flawed, deeply at times.

It is motivated by many factors, not all which are noble. Jesus’ message however is simple – when you judge

be sure that you do so with love as your guide. All of us fall short of the glory of God. Knowing this we must

balance judgement with merciful love.

When we “remove the beam” from our own eye – we remove judgement. We see more clearly not the

flaws of others, but the light of God residing within neighbor, friend and enemy. Put another way we see each

other as Jesus sees us. “No disciple is superior to the teacher, but when fully trained, every disciple will be like

his teacher.” When we remove the beam of judgement, we see clearly humanity with love. Thus, we too

embody the loving mercy of Jesus Christ in the world.

God Bless, Deacon Chris

Eating Simply Lent 2019 The Global Catholic Climate Movement Lenten theme

is choosing to eat less meat this Lent as an effort in

protecting creation..

Fasting from meat is part of Catholic tradition.

For a number of reasons, some environmental and social

justice, some are eating less meat and eating more plant-based meals.

(Of course, daily nutrient requirements must be considered. Eating a

bunch of carrots or a half dozen oranges is not a well-balanced meal.)

To learn more about the plan for adding a day each week for plant-based

meals, and for resources from recipes to frequently asked questions, go

to http://Catholicclimatemovement.global/lent-2019
