It is interesting to note that during his school and college career Professor Var~ varessos was an ardent athlete and distinshyguished himself at discus throwing high jumping and footballe However despite his athlet1c prowess he claims he always conshysidered that dancing was too fast and complishycated for himg His hobby is classical music and particularly Wagnerian operas 0 As a student he saw many of these and followed the scores so carefully that even today he can still sing large portions of the arias which he heard in his youth 0 Professor Varvaressos has a very good sense of humor he enjoys reading biographies and the history of medishyeval European civilization but also appreshyciates Edgar Allan Poes works and Sherlock Holmes mysterieso
The Executive Directors have nickruuned him The Old Nestor because in Ancient Greek History there was a very wise man called Nestor to whom everyone went for advice and the Directors claim that it -is for the same reason that they gave this name to Professor Varvaressos but he modestly insists it is because he has the distinction of being the oldest member on the Board of Directorso
The Professor lives in a nice little bungalow here in Washington with his wife and daughter The latter is studying medicine at0
