An Opportunity
• The students need a glossary, so why not let them write one themselves?
• Tutor provides the raw materials (the technical jargon in selected papers)
• The students find the definitions (that’s what Google and Wikipedia are for)

• Tutor comments on quality of definitions
• 20 students produce a glossary of 100 definitions.

The outcome
• We have a reasonable, focussed glossary
• Students have read three recommended papers
• Tutor hasn’t had to do much…– Students: creators of knowledge– Tutors: curators of knowledge

Co-production of knowledge
• The best way to learn is to teach yourself; with guidance
• A vast amount of information is available online, no need to repeat it
• Guide students towards what they need
• Share their discoveries
