I don’t know about the weather where you’re at, but in Alabama, the October gray skies have set in and fall temperatures toy with us from week to week. Hot one day, cold the next…you know the kind of weather I’m speaking of. And with that comes many exciting fall events that we look forward to each year: football season, hunting season, and the SEMA Show.

This year the SEMA Show dates are Tuesday, November 3 – Friday, November 6, 2009 and it continues to be at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The SEMA Show is the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world (PLEASE NOTE: THE SEMA SHOW IS NOT OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC). It draws the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to one place, the Las Vegas Convention Center. As part of the AAIW, the SEMA Show attracts more than 100,000 industry leaders from over 100 countries for unlimited profit opportunities in the automotive, truck and SUV, and RV markets. SEMA Show 2008 drew over 50,000 domestic and international buyers through two million square feet of exhibits. The displays are segmented into 12 sections, and a New Products Showcase featured nearly 2,000 newly introduced parts, tools and components. In addition, the SEMA Show provides attendees with educational seminars, product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities and more. Sportsman’s Gear is proud to be a part of the 2009 SEMA Show!

Due to the presence of this issue at the SEMA Show, there is a larger than normal new products section that you will definitely want to check out. It’s exciting to see what’s new from quarter to quarter in this industry…and if you order any of these products from the vendors, please make sure you tell them where you heard about them.

It doesn’t matter if you are hunting, fishing, camping, or just tinkering with an old muscle car, we appreciate your patronage and thank you for your continued readership over the years. Have a great fall!

Until next time,

Despite overwhelming suc-cess in the tool box and tube product segments of the light truck industry,

Dee Zee has never strayed too far from their original vision – running boards. 2009 marks the advent of the newest style board from the company originally known as “the running board people.”

Dee Zee took a unique look at a prod-uct that has been helping people enter and exit their vehicles for decades. In-house engineers and designers strived to find the perfect balance of form and function. What they developed is the NXc – a sleek new board designed to perfectly complement today’s growing number of crossovers.

Lightweight aluminum is used to create a strong foundation and is given Dee Zee’s trademark powder-coating. Secure foot-ing is provided by raised rubber grom-mets running the full length of the step-ping surface. Customization begins there as the vehicle owner can choose between one of three distinct styling options for the top plate and the protective accent

trim piece: black / chrome, black / black, or stainless steel / black.

A constant in Dee Zee’s line-up of run-ning boards and steps is no-drill installation, and NXc is no exception. Their engineering team ensured quick installation utilizing existing holes in the vehicle’s frame. And those living in snowy climates needn’t worry about rust. NXc boards feature steel bracing with NRT™, Dee Zee’s specially developed coating that increases corrosion protection.

The NXc is currently available for most GM, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota crossovers with new applications added frequently. In the summer of 2010, Dee Zee will unveil the NXt running board, a similarly designed step for pickups.

Running boards aren’t the only thing new at Dee Zee for the coming year. They never stop looking for new materials and processes to improve their product offering for their customers. High-density polyethylene sounds complicated but it’s the basis for their new line of poly storage products. Two sizes of utility chests and one triangle trailer box benefit from this technology that boasts strength and lightweight portability at once.

Liquid transfer tanks are another area in which Dee Zee is making strides. Last year they introduced the new line of steel tanks to rave reviews. This year they’ve partnered with GPI®,

the leader in transfer tank pumps and meters. Their entire line of pumps will be available for special order but Dee Zee will stock the four most popular numbers giving the customer a

complete line of tanks and accessories under one roof. Retail displays are the front line in showcasing products

and Dee Zee is no stranger to putting their best foot forward. Complementing the existing offering of productive displays is a handful of new ideas ready to ship to the showroom. Side steps, running boards and bed protection displays all received facelifts for 2009 and work together seamlessly side by side. The long-popular tool box 3-tier rack gets a new look for the poly boxes and a colorful, customizable counter mat for the NXc boards rounds out the new displays.

The 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas provides the ultimate launching pad for these new products for Dee Zee. Those from every aspect of the automotive industry will be on hand to see what’s new and, as in years past, Dee Zee won’t disappoint. SG

Company Profile

Seeing a void in the OEM produced running boards, FMS/ATS worked with their clients to produce a product that would fill that void. The UNi 1 was introduced – an OEM style board made from tough thermal plastic construction.

It is cost effective and impact resistant, and comes in both unlighted and lighted versions. With a wide range of applications, you can see why it has remained their number 1 selling board since its inception.

The substrate on ALL of their boards is made of aircraft-grade aluminum. This ensures the stability and durability of the board. This combined with “I” beam construction creates maximum load capacity. ATS boards come ready to install right out of the box!

Jaguar revealed the new XKR and XFR at the 2009 North American International Auto Show earlier this year – two

cars that are true to the heritage of Jaguar's legendary performance, deliv-ering a superb balance of high per-formance, dynamic ability and refine-ment.

XF and XFR 2010 MYThe XF has already received a num-

ber of accolades from major automo-tive publications worldwide, so the new XFR, a new high performance engine and a host of changes for the 2010 Model Year, including the launch of the new luxurious 'Portfolio' model, will make the XF an even more attractive proposition.

Featuring all-new AJ-V8 Gen III direct-injection engines, the XF now delivers more power and more performance with comparable or better fuel economy and emissions than the engines they super-sede.

The XFR is powered by the all-new supercharged 510bhp V8 with acceleration from 0-60mph in just 4.7 seconds mak-ing it the ultimate Jaguar sports sedan. A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, produc-ing 385bhp, powers the XF Portfolio and Premium models. XF retains the 4.2-liter V8 from the previous year.

Distinguished by unique exterior and interior design features, the XFR includes revised bumpers and lower front air intakes, sill extensions, hood louvers and grilles, four tailpipes, a trunk-lid spoiler, unique seats and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Both new engines for the XF range have highly competitive fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures. The 5.0-liter naturally aspirated XF delivers combined average fuel consumption of 25.4mpg while the XFR delivers 22.5mpg.

XK and XKR 2010 MYThe new generation of XK and XKR

Coupe and Convertibles, with all-new V8 engines, delivers more power and perfor-mance with greater efficiency for 2010 Model Year. With interior enhancements and advanced lightweight aluminum body structure, the new XK Portfolio and XKR build on 60 years of legendary perfor-mance to deliver the best of everything Jaguar.

The all-new AJ-V8 Gen III direct-injec-tion engines are the most advanced and efficient direct-injection engines Jaguar has ever produced.

The XKR features a 5.0-liter super-charged AJ-V8 Gen III delivering 510bhp,

461lb-ft of torque and propels to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The XK Portfolio features a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated AJ-V8 Gen III deliver-ing 385bhp, 380lb-ft of torque and propels to 60mph in just 5.2 seconds.

Both models have improved fuel econ-omy and CO2 emissions and meet US ULEV II/Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions regula-tions.

Exterior changes for the XK Portfolio and XKR include a distinctive and pur-poseful new front end design, new LED rear lights and a new lower rear body spoiler. Inside the cabin, both the XK Portfolio and XKR feature the exciting, user-friendly JaguarDrive Selector™ that was first seen on the XF to further enhance the XK's luxury sporting char-acter.

There are now two models in the range: XK Portfolio and XKR.

All-New Third Generation Toyota Prius Raises the Bar for Hybrid Vehicles – Again

Introduced in spring 2009, the all-new 2010 Toyota Prius has once again set new standards for inno-vative hybrid design and tech-

nology, raising its level of convenience features and performance to new heights, including a combined EPA estimated fuel efficiency rating of 50 miles per gallon.

Credited with establishing hybrid tech-nology as a foundation for future vehicles, the three generations of the Prius model have delivered superior fuel economy and ultra-low emissions for more than 1.3 million owners worldwide for more than 10 years.

The midsize third-generation 2010 Prius offers even better mileage ratings, enhanced performance, and innovative design features. The patented Hybrid Synergy Drive system in the 2010 Prius is 90-percent newly developed, with signifi-cant improvements over previ-ous models. The third-genera-tion Prius is quieter and roomier than previous models, as well. It is equipped with advanced stan-dard and available features such as a moonroof with solar panels, four driving modes, Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA) and steer-ing wheel touch controls that display on the instrument panel.

An Eco-IconPrius entered the market in

1997 as the world’s first mass-produced hybrid. The name Prius -- “to go before” in Latin -- became symbolic of hybrid car technology. At the same time, the Prius helped boost public awareness for the automobile’s role in the environment, spe-cifically putting a focus on improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. From the beginning, Toyota’s full-hybrid system was developed almost entirely in-house and has become a driving force behind advanced vehicle technology.

The company’s exclusive Hybrid Synergy Drive System was introduced in 2004 on the second-generation Prius. Since then, nearly 700,000 Prius models have been sold in the U.S.

In designing the new, third-generation Prius, Toyota engineers combined a care-ful refinement of existing systems with a leap in new technology necessary for the future of automobiles. During the devel-opment of the Prius, more than 1,000 pat-ent applications were filed worldwide.

Improved Fuel Economy, Power and Environmental Performance

The new Prius is built using processes that reduce emissions in every stage of the vehicle lifecycle, from production and driving, through to eventual disposal and dismantling years down the road.

The 2010 Prius extends its record of continuous improvement in fuel economy. The first-generation Prius was rated 41 EPA combined mpg, and the second-gen-eration model achieved EPA combined 46 mpg rating. Using a combination of tech-nologies, Toyota increased fuel efficiency for the new Prius to an EPA estimated 51 mpg in city driving, 48 mpg highway and a combined 50 mpg.

A larger and more powerful 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle, four-cylinder engine produces 98 horsepower at 5,200 rpm in the new Prius. Together with its electric

motor, the hybrid system generates a combined 134 net horsepower, an improvement of 24 horsepower over the previous generation.

The new, larger engine helps improve performance and also helps improve high-way mileage. The 2010 Prius can acceler-ate from zero to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds. By producing greater torque, the new engine can run at lower average rpm on the high-way, thereby using less fuel. Mileage is especially improved in cold-start condi-tions and at higher speeds.

Use of an electric water pump and a new exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) sys-tem also contributes to the engine’s effi-ciency. The 1.8-liter Prius engine is the first Toyota powerplant that requires no accessory drive belts, helping enhance powertrain efficiency and also potentially reducing maintenance costs.

Unlike many other hybrid vehicles available, Prius has been an uncompro-mised “full” hybrid since introduction. This allows it to run on engine alone, bat-tery alone, or a combination of both. With the series-parallel Hybrid Synergy Drive system, Prius can operate on electric power only and charge its batteries while running. Additional hybrid performance improvements for the third-generation Prius include:

•The transaxle is lighter and reduces torque losses by as much as 20 percent compared to the previous model.

•The inverter, which converts direct current to alternating current, has a new direct cooling system to reduce size and weight.

•Taken together, the inverter, electric motor and transaxle are smaller and 20 percent lighter.

•A redeveloped electronically controlled regenerative braking sys-tem has been adopted, with control logic optimized to enhance regen-eration.

The new Prius offers four driving modes (“Normal” plus three more). The available EV Mode allows driv-ing on battery power alone at low speeds for about a mile, if condi-tions permit. There is also a Power Mode, which increases sensitivity to throttle input for a sportier feel, and an Eco Mode, which helps drivers achieve their best mileage. A multi-information display panel that moni-tors fuel and energy consumption is standard. It provides feedback on

the Prius’ efficiency using three different displays to help the driver acquire eco-nomical driving habits.

The new Prius is certified as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) and an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) in California, as well as those states adopt-ing California emission standards. The AT-PZEV certification requires the SULEV exhaust standard linked with the ability to meet a zero-fuel-evaporative standard, a 150,000-mile durability demonstration, extended emissions system warranty, and technology deemed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to advance future fuel cell vehicles. In the rest of the country, Prius is certified as Tier 2, Bin 3. The new Prius produces over 70 percent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new vehicle.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox: A Compact Crossover for all Seasons and all Lifestyles

The all-new 2010 Equinox blends distinctive design with outstanding efficiency. A new, 2.4L direct injection

engine helps this great-looking compact crossover deliver expected best-in-seg-ment EPA-estimated highway fuel econ-omy of 32 mpg – a 33-percent improve-ment over the previous model. Chevrolet expects nearly three-quarters of custom-ers will choose the efficient, 2.4L engine.

The new Equinox draws its exterior design inspiration from the Chevrolet Malibu sedan and Traverse crossover; and like those vehicles, the new Equinox complements its styling with attention to detail and unexpected features. It is avail-able in LS, LT and LTZ trim, with available all-wheel drive.

Both the new, 2.4L engine and an avail-able 3.0L V-6 feature fuel-saving direct injection and variable valve timing tech-nology. Vehicle highlights include:

•New, standard 2.4L Ecotec direct injected I-4 engine rated at 182 horsepower (136 kW), which delivers an EPA-estimated 32 mpg highway, 22 mpg city. AWD models are estimated at 20 city/29 highway

•New, available 3.0L DOHC direct inject-ed V-6 engine rated at 264 horsepower (197 kW), which delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg highway, 17 mpg city

•All models have a six-speed automatic transmission; an “eco” mode on models with the 2.4L engine alters shift points to improve fuel economy

•Highway driving range of up to 600 miles (800 km) with the 2.4L engine and more than 500 miles with the 3.0L engine mean less-frequent fill-ups

•Six standard air bags: dual frontal air bags, head curtain side air bags and pelvic/thorax seat-mounted side air bags

•Standard four-wheel disc brakes with StabiliTrak electronic stability control and traction control

•Standard OnStar and XM Satellite Radio, with complimentary service intervals

•“Smart” remote starting system that also activates the HVAC system and optional heated seats depending on the outside temperature.

Design DetailsThe new Equinox features Chevy’s sig-

nature global face – a two-tier grille and prominent gold bowtie insignia. Strong fender shapes, a distinctive premium roofline, wraparound headlamps and dual round taillamps are additional elements that define Equinox as a true Chevrolet.

Additional design features include:•A multi-dimensional hood and wrap-

around rear side glass and a wheels-at-the-corners stance.

•Improved aerodynamic performance through a number of carefully designed exterior features, including moving the base of the windshield forward approxi-mately three inches (75 mm) for a sleeker profile.

Equinox’s rocker panels are integrated into the doors to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. They narrow the area over which a passenger must step, offering protection for pant legs that could brush against dirty rockers. Also, chrome trim and flush-fitting ”exposed-edge” wind-shield and rear glass reinforce Equinox’s build quality and reduce wind noise.

Dimensionally, the Equinox rides on the same 112.5-inch wheelbase (2,857 mm) as its predecessor, but is about one inch (25 mm) shorter in length and an inch wider. It also has a wider front track that enhances the ride and handling.

2010 Volvo XC70

The Volvo XC70, the third gen-eration of Volvo's success-ful XC70 concept, is more refined than ever. A comfort-

able and luxurious appearance has been combined with top-class flexibility and an expressive design, making the model just as elegant in an urban environment as in the wilderness.

The Volvo XC70 is now offered with Volvo's two new five-cylinder diesel engines, D5 and 2.4D. The engines are a perfect combination of low fuel consump-tion, high performance and low noise lev-els. In addition, a front-wheel driven XC70 DRIVe model is available. It has the 2.4D version of the new five-cylinder diesel.

DesignThe model has a unique soft nose.

This is characterized by a larger grille and headlamps. The dark-colored body panels provide an exclusive and a "rough" impression, clearly signaling the car's dynamic capabilities. The pronounced wheel housings are another design fea-ture, contributing to the capable appear-ance. A number of design elements, like the framed side windows and the distinct shoulders, create a genuine estate car profile. The tailgate's upper section has a sportier forward-leaning stance. The tailgate overlaps the tail lamps, providing an even wider opening. The glass goes further down at the sides, enhancing rear view. The loading space is increased by 55 liters (compared with the previous XC70 model). The rails are integrated into the A-pillar moldings. The interior, with a Scandinavian touch, is a perfect combina-tion of design and function.

SafetyThe Volvo XC70 comes with a num-

ber of safety solutions - aimed to help avoiding accidents as well as reducing the consequences of a collision. The height-adjustable integrated child booster cush-ion provides children of different sizes with a good view through the windows, while at the same time contributing to a high level of protection. The booster cushion, providing optimum seat belt geometry, is even more effective in com-bination with the specially adjusted force limiters.

The Inflatable Curtain has been extend-ed by 60 mm compared to previous mod-els. In combination with the booster cushion and a strong body side, it helps increasing the side impact protection - for children of different sizes. In addition,

the side structure has been combined with two-chamber side impact airbags. The Volvo XC70 features Volvo's patented front structure as well. The structure is divided into zones with different steel grades. All engines are mounted trans-versely, including the six-cylinder, and help reducing the risk of penetration into the passenger compartment.

Volvo's Whiplash Protection System provides a gentle damping motion and con-tact between the head and head restraint throughout the impact sequence. The front has energy-absorption properties, includ-ing a soft structure (in front of the bum-per) that helps reducing the risk of leg injuries to pedestrians.

The reinforced, lower spoiler edge has a forward position and is almost on level with the bumper. This solution

helps distributing the contact area of a pedestrian's or a cyclist's leg, helping to further reduce the risk of injury. The raised

bonnet's underside has a honeycomb structure which helps absorbing the energy and reducing the risk of injury.

2009 Nissan Xterra Again Offers Tough, Essential Gear For Serious Adventure Enthusiasts

The Nissan Xterra, created as tough, essential gear designed to inspire and facilitate outdoor enthusi-

asts’ activities wherever they go, receives a number of enhancements for the 2009 model year – including a redesigned front end appearance, new Roof-Mounted Off-Road Lights (Off-Road only), new wheel designs, new seat materials and colors (with leather-appointed seats standard on SE models), new trim level content and standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags with roll-over sensor for front and rear-seat out-board occupant head protection.

The changes to the second genera-tion Xterra enhance the differentiation between the four available Xterra models – X, S, Off-Road and SE – making it easier for buyers to determine the exact Xterra

model for their particular needs and life-styles. Optional equipment packages have also been simplified with two packages, Technology Package and X Gear Package, offered for 2009.

For a limited time, beginning at the 2009 Xterra’s sales launch in July 2008, the content of the Technology Package – including an advanced Rockford Fosgate® audio system, XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately, automatic transmission mod-els only), Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, steering wheel audio controls and auxiliary input jack – will be pro-vided at no charge with every 2009 Xterra S, Off-Road or SE.

“Xterra, one of the best thought-out and designed vehicles in the segment, just got even better – especially with the Technology Package offered on every

2009 Xterra at no additional cost,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc.

“Since inception, Xterra has represent-ed an authentic expression of adventure-focused design, both in aesthetic appeal and real-world functionality. With the enhancements for 2009, Xterra is even more in tune with the needs and desires of its active sports enthusiast owners.”

Once again in 2009, the U.S.-built Xterra offers outstanding quality and reli-ability, along with strong on-road and off-road performance credentials. All 2009 Xterra models feature an advanced 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine, rated at 261 horse-power and 281 lb-ft of torque, along with a rugged “F-Alpha” truck platform for adventure-ready performance. The “F-Alpha” platform is shared with the full-size Nissan Titan pickup and Armada SUV. Xterra is available with a choice of 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmissions and in a choice of part-time 4-wheel drive or 2-wheel drive. SG

Fishing

After fishing on Florida’s Gulf Coast for close to 50 years, I recently experienced a day on the water that stands out as a personable best.

It was October in Charlotte Harbor along the Florida’s southwestern coast when guide, Captain Ralph Allen of Punta Gorda, took me out for a Grand Slam. We didn’t start out for a slam nor did we start out until late morning. Before fighting fish, we had to fight wind that blew so hard we could only fish leeward sides of islands.

Captain Ralph holds three world records and knows the waters intimately. He owns King Fisher Fleet that offers deep sea and back-bay fishing trips for spin and fly anglers, and he also has sightseeing tours around Charlotte Harbor.

Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserve is 270 square miles of fish-ing pleasure. The Peace and Myakka Rivers merge to form one of the largest estuaries in the USA and it provides the food chain

from microorganisms to tarpon that grow to weigh well over 100 pounds.

Back-bay fishing peaks in May for snook. That’s when they enter the shallows to feed before spawning in June. The tarpon concentrate at the mouth of the estuary at Boca Grande Pass. More tarpon gather here than any other place – 40,000 to 60,000 silver bullets. They make the sea white by boiling the surface. Ralph says you’ll need 50-pound test line on heavy tackle to keep the tarpon from running too far and tangling with other lines from some of the 200 boats that converge to catch these acrobatic fish. Lighter tackle and fly fishing is used when fishing elsewhere.

Back-bay species include redfish, sea trout, snook, and juve-nile tarpons. The last two were on my “to do” list – two species that have eluded my hook thus far while fishing in Florida.

We began by netting bait along the foamy tide line. The baitfish feed where the outgoing tide meets the heavier saltwater. With two live-wells full of bait, we headed for an island to anchor. Of the hundreds of mangrove islands dotting the large expanse of Charlotte Harbor, he knew the ones that fish like. Ralph scooped out a double handful of baitfish in a net and tossed them over the area where we had our lines. We were using light spinning tackle with eight-pound test line.

Snook were the first to show up. Being from land-locked Tennessee, I compared their size and fight with our largemouth bass, but they run in schools where several may be caught in a short time.

Ralph landed the first snook and I was delighted because that meant I was likely to catch a species I’d read about and lusted after for years. A cast or two later I hooked up. Zing went the line off my reel. I knew a snook was a fighter but this was incredible.

“You’ve got a tarpon,” Ralph said. I disagreed – it had me! Pound for pound, this fish was the strongest of any I’ve ever

hooked, including stripers. I guess the fish and I played with each other 20 minutes before I looked at my watch to time the remainder of the fight. A little over 30 minutes later Ralph lifted the silver bullet into the boat.

I knew from playing a 15-pounder that I did not want to hook an 80-pounder. I told Ralph, “I don’t think I am man enough.” My arms were shaking and jerking from the strain. But I’ve since changed my mind and am willing to try with heavier tackle.

The released fish swam off like it was slightly miffed at being taken away from its feeding, none the worse for the experience.

By the time I rested, the tide had picked up speed and Ralph said the fishing would get better. True to his word, we started landing snooks. I now had the two species I desired most to catch on this trip to Florida. But it wasn’t over….

He said that since I had two of the four that make up a Grand Slam in Charlotte Harbor, we should look for red fish and trout. We moved to another island where we caught sea trout. All I needed was a red fish to complete a Grand Slam. He was determined to give me the chance for this impressive goal.

We moved to where the tide washed food over a shallow bar into a depression. The wind didn’t help one bit with keeping the

boat in position so we could cast to the holes where he expected the reds to be. Here it was that we both got caught reds. The Grand Slam was accomplished. Thanks Captain Ralph, for a magnificent day of fishing!

“All a person has to do is step on board,” says Ralph. “We pro-vide everything from license to fish cleaned and bagged. There are more than 100 species of fish to catch and something is bit-ing all year long. The peak season is from December to May but some of the best fishing is April and May.”

Family FunIn addition to fishing, Ralph offers sight seeing. He says, “Our

tour boats offer a variety of regularly scheduled, inexpensive sightseeing cruises including full day out island trips, half-day trips, nature cruises, sunset cruises, and more. Our tour boats are also available for hire privately for weddings, parties, con-ventions, meetings, dinner cruises or just about any other type of event you can dream up.

“Charlotte Harbor teems with marine life of every shape, size and description. There are nearly 300 species of fish, 100 species of birds, sea turtles, alligators, manatees and the most popular animal of them all, Flipper. Charlotte Harbor is home to scores of Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins, sometimes mistakenly called porpoises. They enjoy body surfing in the wake created as our boat motors along, so make sure you have plenty of film for your camera.”

When you go fishing you will need a place to stay. The Best Western’s Waterfront Café and Pub overlooks Charlotte Harbor, as does the hotel’s swimming pool. Both are good spots for relax-ing. All three meals are served in the Cafe, but you’ll also want to sample some of the other good restaurants in town while you’re visiting.

Fishermen's Village started out as the Maud Street City Docks in 1929. Today it’s filled with interesting clothing, gift, and specialty shops. Fishermen’s Village also offers 47 two-bedroom condominium villas with complete kitchens, lofts, and balconies. Guests also enjoy the use of tennis courts and a heated swimming pool.

If you have time to grab a bite to eat between fishing trips, you can sit on the back deck of Harpoon Harry’s in Fisherman’s Village. This is a popular place for cold beer, raw oysters, steamed seafood pots, or sandwiches. It’s open daily for lunch and dinner.

T h e S m o k e H o u s e Restaurant has been in business for 30 years, so you know they’re doing something right. This is the best place for breakfast with hot homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, or lunch with smoked meat sandwiches, burgers, smoked ribs, or chicken with fries, beans, and garlic toast. They’re open every day except Monday.

All-in-all, you won’t find a more pleasant place to visit with your family while casting for your Grand Slam. Happy Hooking! SG

For nearly two decades now, Road Armor has been designing and building some of the toughest, most cutting-edge bumpers in the aftermarket. From equipping Hummers and F-Series trucks in Iraq to outfitting several of Paramount's unique creations in the blockbuster film Transformers, Road Armor has continued to lead the way with one-of-a-kind products that are built to last.

Using the latest 3D CAD software and state-of-the-art manufacturing, Road Armor designs each bumper system to precisely match the lines and fitment of each vehicle model, ensuring superior fit and finish in the final product. Designed to endure the worst sort of abuse, each bumper is comprised of a 3/16-inch-thick steel shell, supported by a 1/4-inch-thick steel sub-frame, with interlocking structural sections that ensure these bumpers will never buckle or break. Whether suffering IEDs in the Middle East or the constant grind of rockcrawling here at home, Road Armor bumpers have never suffered a structural failure.

The product line continues to expand as the company works with international manufacturers to design new bumper systems for an ever widening array of vehicles, ensuring that Road Armor's line-up is always up to the minute and available to owners everywhere. SG

Bumpers Built to Last - The Road Armor AdvantageBy Mark Nobles

The new Hummer H3 bumper system is designed to complement the vehicle lines and provide the best in looks and protection.

For FJ owners, the Stealth bumper and Titan guard form a potent combination.

Big, muscular trucks like the SuperDuty look even tougher with the Stealth bumper system and winch combo.

Road Armor's Lonestar guard offers clean lines and

great protection on road and off.

While matching the lines of the Toyota trucks is

demanding, the Road Armor Stealth unit succeeds

beautifully.

The traditional straight-axle has expe-rienced remarkable innovations over the past decade, but the most striking design to scale the evolutionary lad-

der in recent memory is the new Atomic Axle. Taking a radical approach in design and func-tion, Atomic has created a unique arched steel housing that acts as a natural truss to provide tremendous strength under the harshest con-ditions. This fresh perspective on axle design utilizes the strengths of traditional straight axles while offering industry-leading gains in ground clearance and off-road performance.

Designed from the ground up with off-road-ers in mind, the Atomic uses proprietary CV joints and 35-spline, 1.5-inch O.D., chromoly axle shafts to create the tremendous strength that four-wheelers today demand. Seeing no reason to reinvent the wheel, the designers at Atomic also chose to make use of some proven compo-nents, like the widely respected Dana 60 outer assemblies and the long-standing 9-inch third member. The incorporation of these parts adds to the versatility, strength, and ease of repair that Atomic wanted to build into its newest creation.

Where this axle truly stands apart is in ground clearance, delivering an eye-opening seven inch-es of added clearance over a stock Dana 60. In real-world terms, a vehicle equipped with Atomics, a four-inch lift, and 33-inch tires would have more clearance than the same vehicle with Dana 60s on 40-inch rubber. And to ensure that the housing glides easily over any obstacles tall enough to actually reach it, the edges are all bev-eled, and the underbelly of the center section is flat to create a natural skidplate that will not impede forward progress.

Atomic has stepped up to the challenge of delivering an axle that advances off-road prow-ess and raises the bar on future design. As Atomic likes to point out, this isn't your grandfa-ther's axle. SG

Hunting

This is an outdoor paradise. A visit to Hurricane Creek is a combination of sport and relaxat ion as your hosts

work to ensure that you and your guest have a great experience. From the spacious lodge to the wooded property itself, tucked into the hills of northwest Alabama, you will agree: Hurricane Creek is the ultimate outdoor experience.

Hurricane Creek is located in a part of Alabama known for its beauty and diversity. The land itself is a mixture of rolling hills, rustling streams, open food plots, pine thickets, pine plan-tations and a variety of natural hard-woods. They have also planted over 200 fruit bearing trees throughout the land including apple, pear, plum and saw-tooth oaks.

Their hunting houses and tree stands are strategically placed near the year-round managed food plots, which con-sist of clover, winter rye, buck forage oats, sunflower and millet.

All of the land is easily accessible by road using one of their many ATV's, golf carts or in many cases a comfort-able pick-up. Temperatures during gun season (mid November - Jan 31) can

range from a low just below freezing to a few unseasonably warm days near 60. Bow season (begins Mid-October) will be slightly warmer and the hardwoods will be full of color. They recommend packing clothes you can layer so that you can easily adapt to the sometimes unpredictable weather. Rain gear is also a plus.

AccommodationsTheir all new smoke-free lodge has

six separate guest rooms and four full bathrooms. They can accommodate up to 14 guest at a time. All the furnishings are very up to date and the decor is just what you would expect to find in a first class hunting lodge. The non-hunt-ing guest is also welcome and there are numerous non-hunting activities as well.

If you tag out early, there is plenty to do. Feel free to hunt with a buddy, fish in their 15 acre stocked lake, shoot a few skeet, ride the horse, shoot a little pool or just relax around the lodge and watch a little satellite TV. For the more serious fisherman, ask about a guided fishing trip on the Tennessee River or Cedar Lake.

They are a "full-service" hunting lodge. They realize that the trophy is only part of the experience. Their food and southern hospitality help make this a trip to remember. When you make your reservation, you’ll even be asked to name your favorite foods and bever-ages. They also realize that a 1st class hunting preserve must have 1st class service. After hunting at Hurricane Creek, you will be spoiled!

At Hurricane Creek, the choice is yours... "Trophy Hunt" or "Open Range"...

Their "Trophy Hunt" takes place inside a very large preserve. A Trophy Hunt is not as easy as some may think. These deer are wild and they must be hunted hard. The main difference in hunting inside the preserve verses outside is that they are able to totally

control the harvest rate. This results in some very large, very old whitetails with superior genetics. With a Trophy Hunt you only pay if and when you har-vest a deer. The fee is based only on the size of the antlers. You will see deer ranging in age from six months to six years and older. You will also see racks of all sizes, including some that top 200 inches. It is not uncommon to see several Boone and Crocket racks every time you sit in the stand. This is qual-ity deer management at its best! Don't worry about shooting the wrong deer. One on one guide service is available and the guide will help you judge your deer in the field. It is his job to help you get the right deer for you.

They also offer "Open Range" hunts outside the preserve. If you choose an Open Range hunt, you pay a flat fee per day and there is never a trophy fee, regardless of what you harvest. They have some of the best whitetail land in their area and Alabama is known for having a very dense deer population. Alabama law allows each hunter to harvest multiple bucks and does each season! With an Open Range hunt you can expect to see a lot of deer and the occasional good buck. There have been some "150 class" and larger deer taken in their area, but realistically with the liberal harvest laws in the state, a 130 class buck or less is the more common trophy. They allow you to shoot any 8-point buck or better and one doe. You can harvest a second buck, but it must be better than your first. See the FAQ's page for more details on their Open Range harvest rules. They have some great 3, 5 & 7 day all-inclusive packages starting at just $895 per person. Even less with a group of six or more!

Guide Service is included with either hunt you choose, but they highly recom-mend One-On-One guide service with a Trophy Hunt. With One-on-One Guide service, they will sit with you in the

stand, help video the experience and help you judge the size of your trophy in the field. (There is a fee associated with one on one guide service and we only recommended it on Trophy Hunts) Every hunt is "Semi-Guided" at no addi-tional charge. They will do everything for you except sit with you while you hunt. They will drop you off at a stand, give you a few tips, and pick you up at a time you specify. When you harvest a deer, just sit back and relax...they do all the work. Their guides are completely familiar with the lay of the land, and with the habits of the deer. They will do their best to ensure your success.

Their Trophy Hunters and Open Range Hunters will both enjoy numer-ous stands located over food plots and along travel routes in the hardwoods. They recommend hunting the travel routes in the mornings and food plots late afternoon. The entire staff will do all they can to get you the trophy you're after and make this a hunt of a lifetime.

Deer hunting is always unpredict-able, however they are confident that you will be pleased with the game you see. After that, it's all up to you!

Camping

With Summer Behind Us, America’s Private Campgrounds are Gearing Up for Fall Hunting and Fishing Enthusiasts

Summer may be coming to an end, but there’s plenty of hunting and fishing to do for the next couple of months at campgrounds and

RV parks across the country.Consider Redbeard ’s Ranch in

Lebanon, Mo. The private campground offers quiet campsites on a wooded 295-acre ranch with weekend bow hunting of whitetail deer and wild turkey. The park, which is located along the Niangua River, also offers weekend classes in fly-fishing, along with canoe, raft and kayak rentals and hayrides.

The park also offers three heated Sioux Indian-style teepees, which are popular with families, as well as a fully furnished, luxury “Glamping” tent cabin.

“There are literally hundreds of private parks across the country that offer hunt-ing and fishing opportunities, either onsite or nearby,” said Linda Profaizer, president and CEO of the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.

Profaizer added that hunting and fish-ing enthusiasts can use search func-tions on the association’s website, www.GoCampingAmerica.com, to pinpoint campgrounds close to home that offer hunting or fishing opportunities. Here’s a sampling of the types of hunting and fishing opportunities that are available at some of the nation’s privately owned campgrounds and RV parks:

•Boiling Spring Campground, Dixon, Mo.: This Missouri Ozarks campground offers fishing trips the 21-mile section of the Gasconade River's "Gasconade Special Smallmouth Bass Research Area," where Smallmouth bass caught less than 18 inches must be released immediately unharmed back into the river.

•Bridgeport Reservoir RV Park & Marina, Bridgeport, Calif.: This eastern Sierra Nevada park is located along Bridgeport Reservoir and provides excellent opportunities for fly-fishing for trout.

•Cantwell RV Park, Cantwell, Alaska: This park is in a pristine area with many fishing creeks and rivers. “It’s fly fishing in this area, mostly for a small trout called

Grayling, a great eating fish,” said co owner Eileen McGurk. “While people fish, they enjoy views of Mount McKinley.” The park expects to close for the season Sept. 15th and will reopen May 15th.

•Chandler Hills Campground, Boyne Falls, Mich.: This campground, which expects to remain open at least through the end of October, is surrounded by thou-sands of acres of state land with opportu-nities to hunt big game, such as deer, bear and bobcat. “We also have the full spread of upland game, Turkey Grouse and Woodcock. We are also within 5 miles of two fantastic freshwater lakes full of fish from trout to perch and one has a new ADA launch ramp,” said co-owner Dennis Hass. The park also offers mush-room hunting. “There are the favorites, like Morals, but also the fall mushrooms, like Chanterelles,” Hass said, adding, “All of these are either adjacent to our camp-ground or just minutes away.”

•Carrollwoods RV Campground and Vineyard, Longs, S.C.: This eastern South Carolina park offers both hunt-ing and fishing. “We have hunting clubs, game lands, the Wacamaw River and the Atlantic Ocean all within 16 miles of us,” said Bryon Carroll, Carrollwoods’ owner. “We have a stocked fishing pond on site with bass and crappie. And several lakes within a 10-minute drive.

•Chalk Creek Campground and RV Park, Nathrop, Colo.: “Hunting season starts late August and goes through the end of January, depending on the license,” said park owner Joan Skinner. “Deer and elk are the most popular, but there is also antelope, mountain lion and bighorn sheep hunting (nearby).” Nearby rivers offer fishing opportunities for brown trout, with rainbows, mackinaw, and cut-throats in the reservoirs and lakes.

•Chimeny Park Resort, Mission, Texas: Located along the banks of the Rio Grande River, this park offers fish-ing for catfish and largemouth bass as well as boating and kayaking opportuni-ties. “Whether you want to fish from its bank or launch your own boat, the fishing is plentiful,” said park manager Wallena Haynes.

•Cross Creek RV Park, Lake Ozark, Mo.: This park features a 10-acre fishing lake stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. The park rents paddleboats and rowboats to reach the best fishing spots. “The campground is located one mile off the highway, so it’s peaceful and surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods. There are plenty of hunting opportunities nearby for deer and turkey,” said park owner John Peters.

•Deer Run RV Resort, Crossville, Tenn.: This campground is adjacent to

Private parks offer a variety of hunting opportunities, from big game hunting in Michigan and Colorado to bow hunting in Missouri, while fishing enthusiasts can find parks that offer everything from bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, salmon and every type of trout, from browns to mackinaws.

Catoosa Wildlife Management, an 80,000-acre wildlife management preserve that offers hunting during the fall, winter and spring. Fall hunting includes dove, antler-less deer and turkey hunting.

•Kamp Klamath RV Park and Campground, Klamath, Calif.: This park offers excellent salmon fishing, with one-quarter mile of frontage along the Klamath River. “While the taking of salm-on has been banned along the Pacific Coast and in most rivers in the Golden State this year, the Klamath River is open and expectations are that the season will be the best in years,” said park owner Aaron Funk.

•Little Orleans Campground & Park Area, Little Orleans, Md.: This western Maryland park offers both hunting and fishing. “We have a stocked trout stream that runs through the property, where people fish all year,” said park owner Donna Wallizer. “We also have hunting available in the 53,000 Green Ridge State Forest, located adjacent to the campground. People do spring and

fall turkey hunting, but mostly antler and antlerless deer seasons, bow, rifle and muzzleloader.” Bow season runs from September to December, while muzzleloader season is four days in October and four days in December. “People are not allowed to hunt on campground property as we have the state forest next door for our campers’ convenience.”

•Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort, Newport, Ore.: This park sits on 18 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Local activities include crabbing and fishing. The historical Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head lighthouses are also located nearby.

•Peppertree Camping, Eastford, Conn.: This park has excellent trout fishing along a state-stocked river, said co-owner Trudy Ziegler.

•Port of Siuslaw Campground, Florence, Ore.: “We have the closest boat ramp to the ocean and one of the best salmon fishing rivers in Oregon,” said Ken Hill, assistant harbormaster and camp-ground manager, adding that the park is two miles from the sand dunes and five miles from the ocean.

•Sandy Pond, Plymouth, Mass.: This park offers some of the best striper and blue fishing in Massachusetts, according to park manager Jane Doonan.

•Sweetwater River Ranch, Texas Creek, Colo.: This park has a half-mile of frontage on both sides of the Arkansas River, one of the most rafted rivers in the United States. “We have outstanding trout fishing in spring and autumn, and out-standing rafting and kayaking in the sum-mer,” said co-owner Marcia Rowland.

•The Vineyards Campground on Grapevine Lake, Texas: This park sits directly on the southeastern shores of Grapevine Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir that stores and supplies water to Dallas and Fort Worth.

Species of fish in the lake include black and white crappie, several species of bass and catfish. The campground has its own boat ramp for each access to the lake, a large parking area for boat trailers and a covered, freestanding fish cleaning station. Hunters staying at the campground also have access to hunting for feral hog, waterfowl and other small game. Hunters must have a valid Texas hunting license and a Corps of Engineers hunting permit while hunting on project lands.

Style Meets Function with the Gear Keeper RetractableCB Mic Keeper™ Designer Series

The innovators at Hammerhead Industries are giving truckers a fun new way to express themselves while on the job with Gear Keeper’s Retractable CB Mic Keeper™ RT2 Designer Series. Stylish yet functional, the new Gear Keeper® line is intended to keep truckers safe while communicating on the road, while at the same time, adding a little flair inside the cab. Gear Keeper’s CB Mic Keeper has revolutionized the way truckers communicate, eliminating the potentially dangerous fumbling of the mic while placing it back in its hanger, and keeping the driver’s focus and attention where it’s needed most — on the road.

The Designer Series features top design elements while keeping in tradition with Geer Keeper’s high standards and quality products. For the proud and patriotic, Gear Keeper offers its Stars & Stripes model, while the Red Flame and Blue Flame models help add edge to any interior. There is also the Carbon Graphite model for those with contemporary taste, as well as a Standard Chrome for a sleek industrial feel.

The Gear Keeper CB Mic Keeper is simple to install: simply mount it securely to any existing screw (i.e. headliner, visor, radio mount or dome light) with the provided D-ring and attach the unit into place with the snap clip. Once attached, the lanyard drops the mic to a convenient hanging position, eliminating hazardous dangling bungee cords while keeping it safe, secure, and within arm’s reach. With

23” extension and 9 oz. retraction force, the CB Mic Keeper will give you the slack needed to efficiently communicate, and easily retract back into position every time. Plus, its Quick Connect attachment with Pivot-Ball Connection keeps the mic properly positioned and makes it a snap to remove. Now all truckers have to do is grab their mic, use it, and let it go without the worry of it dropping on the dash or hitting their head.

Built to withstand the hard daily use of serious drivers, this device features a nylon-coated stainless steel cable with a 60-lb. break strength rating. A high-impact housing pro-tects the Gear Keeper’s internal components and ensures durability over the long haul.

JASPER Adds Late-Model GM to Remanufactured Gas Engine Line-up

Jasper Engines & Transmissions, the leader in remanufactured drivetrain products, has added the following late-model GM engines to its remanu-factured gas engine line-up.

JASPER’s latest offering is the GM 6.0L V8 engine for the following applications:

2007-2008 Chevrolet Suburban 2500/GMC Yukon XL 25002007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD/GMC Sierra 2500 HD

Pickups2007-2008 Chevrolet Express 2500/GMC Savana 2500 Vans2007-2008 Chevrolet Express 3500/GMC Savana 3500 Vans“This engine is GM’s Gen IV design with a cast iron block and

features Variable Cam Timing,” says Chip Helderman, JASPER Research and Development Technician. “The engine utilizes a special bolt controlling the flow of oil to the VCT cam gear.”

This engine is covered by JASPER’s 3-year/100,000 mile nation-wide transferable parts and labor warranty.

For more information on these and other JASPER quality remanufactured products, call 800-827-7455 or visit www.jas-perengines.com.

JASPER Conducts Transmission Submersion TestingHave you ever had one of those pesky leaks on a transmission

that you just can’t seem to find? Jasper Engines & Transmissions has created a transmission submersion test to check assembled units for leaks before they are dynamometer tested.

“This procedure was initially developed to check JASPER transmissions for the United States Postal Service,” said Craig Leuck, JASPER

Transmission Division Manager. “We developed an internal linkage system for their transmissions and

needed a way to check these units for leaks.”When the remanufactured transmission is assem-

bled, Associates seal off all external ports and seals, then inject five pounds of air through the dipstick hole

of the transmission. The unit is then submerged in a large tank of water and the Associate checks for air bubbles escaping from the transmission. Units will not be dynamometer tested until they pass this crucial test.

“We’ve found this to be a great way of improving the quality of our transmissions to the customer,” says Leuck. “If five pounds of air can detect an external leak, we can eliminate the chance of transmission fluid finding the same leak.”

JASPER currently submerge tests rear wheel-drive Ford & Chrysler transmissions, along with front wheel-drive GM, the 4L80E a n d 7 0 0 R 4 p o s t a l transmissions. Added Leuck, “The goal is to have the ability to dunk test all light-duty transmissions.”

Strattec Unveils First Padlock To Open Using Car Or Truck KeyBOLT Series locks to debut at 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nov. 3-6

Attention auto enthusiasts, outdoorsmen or anyone else who’s ever searched for a lock key or struggled to remember a combination: STRATTEC Security Corp. has just created a series of locks that open with your car or truck key.

The new BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) Series of locks incorporate a patented, automotive-style cylinder that enables the user to insert their car or truck key, turn once, and pro-gram the lock to that key. Any number of pad-locks or other locks in the series can be set by the owner to a single key. In addition, since the BOLT Series locks use an automotive-grade cylinder with a shutter and six-plate tumbler, they have the highest corrosion resistance rating and are nearly impos-sible to pick or bump.

“Imagine the convenience of hav-ing just one key for all your locks, and it’s the key you always have with you,” said STRATTEC Director of New Market

Development Mike Long. “We anticipate huge interest in this product among a variety of users, from auto/truck enthusi-asts and outdoorsmen to contractors and fleet managers.”

The BOLT Series will be unveiled to a national audience at the 2009 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association Show in Las Vegas, Nov. 3-6. The product was previewed

earlier this year, winning “best new product” awards at the 2009 Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) and the 2009 International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) shows. Made in the USA, the BOLT Series will also be marketed by Wisconsin-based DuraSafe Inc. in the marine and outdoor markets.

The BOLT Series of locks will initially include a pad-lock and receiver lock, with a cable lock, spare tire lock,

and other products to follow. The company estimates the BOLT Series locks fit over 88 percent of light trucks and over 70 percent of all Ford, GM and Chrysler vehicles on the road, making them com-patible with 111 million vehicles.

STRATTEC is the world’s largest manu-facturer of automotive locks and keys, and

supplies ignition locks and keys to all three U.S. automakers. For more information about the STRATTEC BOLT Series of

Valley Introduces Phantom, Blackbird Compact Brake Controls

Valley Towing Products, an industry leader in hitches and towing accessories, introduces two new compact brake controls designed for safe stopping of trailers with electric brake systems.

The Phantom™ (PN #32811) is a time-based unit engineered with Valley’s exclusive F.E.T. brake control technology, which uses components that emit less heat and allow for the develop-ment of a smaller brake control. Measuring 3 inches wide by 3.75 inches long and 1 inch high, the Phantom’s compact design allows the unit to conveniently mount anywhere in the vehicle.

“As today’s towing population turns to smaller vehicles like crossovers and SUVs for their travel needs, the demand for com-pact yet powerful trailer braking systems continues to increase,” said Mike McCann, director of marketing, Valley. “Valley has developed two stylish brake controls that provide an ideal solu-tion for today’s car owners.”

Valley’s Phantom brake control is developed for trailers with two and four brake systems and features a dual LED display that indicates trailer continuity, power con-nection, output power level, gain setting and ramp time setting. It also allows for infinite adjustability in both output and ramp time settings.

With identical measurements, the new Blackbird™ brake control (PN #32812) is a more powerful version of the Phantom featur-ing an easy-to-read digital display that communi-cates trailer settings and diagnostic alerts for trailer

disconnect, short circuits and charging system errors. The unit is designed to support trailers with two, four, six and eight brake systems.

The Phantom and Blackbird are installed with industry-stan-dard adapter harnesses and they do not interfere with other vehicle electrical systems such as anti-lock brakes and cruise control. Both operate with electric over hydraulic braking sys-tems and employ manual braking levers that illuminate vehicle and trailer stop lamps for safety.

Valley hitches and towing accessories can be purchased at leading automotive parts and retail stores including Napa Auto, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Carquest Auto Parts. To find a Valley dealer in your area, visit the company online at www.valley.us.com and select the “Where to Buy” link (or call 800.344.3112).

R4Tech Hybrid Air Suspension now Available from Firestone Industrial Products, Sanluis Rassini

R4Tech, which replaces the factory leaf spring suspension, comprises a high-quality Firestone air spring and SANLUIS Rassini’s leaf-spring suspension, positioned in a unique architec-ture to create a fully functional system that adjusts for varying load capacities. The suspension system delivers an improved ride at all times by utilizing the variable spring rate of the air spring to stiffen when the truck is loaded and soften when unloaded.

An upgrade over traditional solutions, R4Tech increases axle control during acceleration and braking for improved torque management and reduced wheel hop. The design allows the sus-pension to move at all load conditions, therefore isolating and absorbing road impact for passengers and cargo alike. Plus, less steel in the system reduces weight in the vehicle and improves fuel economy.

“By combining Firestone’s knowledge and resources as the ‘World’s No. 1 Air Spring(tm)’ - including air suspension technol-ogy, air spring design, tech support, marketing and distribution - and Rassini’s expertise in suspension systems, we have devel-oped a premier suspension system that reduces the impact of the road on passengers, cargo and trailers,” said Paul Fessel, automotive OE sales manager, Firestone Industrial Products Company. “R4Tech is ideal for enthusiasts hauling their thor-oughbred horses, race cars or any other type of trailer because it helps prevent damage to important cargo.”

The complete R4Tech system comes with the Rassini foun-dation suspension - including leaf plates, lower trailing link, J-spring, spring perches and mounting brackets - the Airide(tm) air

spring and an air compressor control system that maintains the proper air level in the spring for the exact load you’re carrying. Professional installation is recommended.

Trained technicians are available toll-free (800.888.0650) to answer any product application, installation or warranty ques-tions Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST.

These MIL-SPEC glasses com-bine all day wearing comfort with superior impact protection. In fact, they arerated to protect the eyes from a .15 caliber projec-tile traveling at 650 fps.

Wiley X’s entire Safety Series features frames that are prescrip-tion ready, eliminating the need for inferior protective glasses to be worn over prescription eyewear.

“Our company got its start manufacturing eyewear for mar-kets that rely on impact protection, so in a way, this new launch is simply the natural evolution of our product line,” says Myles Freeman, Jr., President of Sales for Wiley X Eyewear. “Today, however, we’re introducing an entirely new concept to address the complex needs in vision protection for the workforce. Protecting employees — especially their vision — is far too important to trust to run-of-the-mill spectacles or safety goggles. We believe companies will see the wisdom of investing in com-fortable, stylish glasses that offer superior protection for work-ers all day long.”

A.R.E. Creates Pest Control Truck for “Verminators” Host Mike Masterson2010 Toyota Tundra Designed for Function, Style with Fiberglass Cap

Mike Masterson knows a lot about bugs - especially how to get rid of them. As the star of the hit TV show "Verminators" and CEO of ISOTECH Pest Management, Inc.(r), Masterson relies on efficient equipment to help him perform his job properly. That's why he turned to the experts at A.R.E. to create the ultimate pest control truck for his business - The A.R.E. Exterminator.

"Our trucks take a lot of abuse in the pest control industry, so we need equipment that is strong, reliable and functional," said Masterson. "A.R.E.'s truck caps and tonneau covers are high-quality products that I use on my entire fleet of ISOTECH trucks. We are excited to partner with A.R.E. to build the ideal truck for our team."

The A.R.E. Exterminator is a 2010 Toyota Tundra featuring A.R.E.'s CX Series truck cap designed for maximum utility and flexibility. The cap is made of fiberglass construction for a styl-ish, professional look, and includes side-access windoors, tool-box options and more.

to look like a show truck to represent Mike's company at the job site," said Bryan Baker, director of marketing, A.R.E.

The "Verminators" reality TV show follows the pest manage-ment professionals of Masterson's company ISOTECH as they rid homes of rodents, cockroaches, spiders, termites and more. Masterson, who has been in the pest control industry for more than 25 years, will drive The A.R.E. Exterminator to various job sites where his crew battles pests in homes, apartments and busi-nesses. the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle rolls off the assembly line late next year, it will be the first mass-production automobile to achieve triple-digit fuel economy, with an expected 230 mpg in the city, or 25 kilowatt hours per 100 miles.

GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson also confirmed that Cadillac is developing an entry luxury sport sedan to capital-ize on the growing market for smaller luxury sedans in the U.S. and globally. The rear- and optional all-wheel drive sedan will compete in the segment below the CTS, delivering outstanding performance and driving dynamics.

At GM’s Design Center and Milford Proving Ground, GM pre-viewed six all-new 2010 vehicles and a glimpse of what is being introduced through the end of 2011:

•Chevrolet alone is introducing 10 new models, including the 2011 Chevrolet Volt

•Buick and GMC are adding 10 new entries, including a Buick plug-in hybrid compact crossover in 2011

•Cadillac is introducing five new models through 2011 Henderson also announced that as part of GM’s commitment

to get closer to consumers, GM will use its FastLane blog to gather product research from both fans and critics. One pilot initiative, “The Lab,” will involve GM’s Advanced Design studio and allow users openly talk with designers about ideas and con-sumer-friendly technologies that were previously shared only in unbranded clinics.

In addition, Henderson said he and other executives plan to talk with consumers in other Web-based and in-person formats in the coming months. On Monday, the new GM executive commit-tee, led by Henderson, showed off products and technologies to about 75 consumers at the GM Technical Center and the Milford Proving Ground.

“The key to restarting this company lies with GM’s customers, cars and culture,” Henderson said. “With four focused brands, we are committed to exceeding our current customers’ expecta-tions and giving consumers plenty of reasons to choose a Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac car or truck.”

The Volt, scheduled to begin production late next year as a 2011 model, can travel up to 40 miles on electricity from a single battery charge and can extend its overall range to more than 300 miles with its flex-fuel engine-generator.

The EPA test procedure for plug-in electric vehicles, which is still being finalized, assumes a single charge each day. According to U.S. Department of Transportation data (http://tinyurl.com/U-S-DOTStudy), nearly eight of 10 Americans commute fewer than 40 miles a day.

“From the data we’ve seen, most drivers could operate purely on grid electricity in a Chevy Volt,” Henderson said. “A car that gets more than 100 miles per gallon is a significant step in the reinvention of the auto industry and GM is and will continue to be a leader in that reinvention."

Cadillac Confirms Entry Luxury SedanWith the all-new SRX and CTS Sport Wagon coming to market

this month, the brand plans to pursue an even bigger piece of the luxury sport sedan market. Cadillac is developing a sport sedan below the acclaimed CTS that will deliver on the price of entry in this highly competitive segment of the luxury market – driving dynamics. With high-tech engines, rear-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive, the new sedan will take on the best in the seg-ment.

“We are determined to repeat what CTS has already achieved in design, quality, driving dynamics, performance and fuel econo-my to grow our presence in this high-volume and highly competi-tive segment,” Henderson said.

Greater Customer EngagementWhile GM has organized customer clinics and collected feed-

back for many years, the Web provides even greater opportuni-ties to connect with consumers. Henderson said executives will use a combination of in-person meetings and online technology to better interact with them.

“Our customers are the reason we’re here. It’s critical to have their voices help shape our products, and their experience with them,” Henderson said. “Their feedback helps us learn and evolve so we can continuously improve our cars and trucks, and our customer relationships.”

In addition to “Tell Fritz,” a feature on www.gmreinvention.com, in which customers can provide feedback, GM will use its popular FastLane blog (fastlance.gmblogs.com) to launch “The Lab,” a microsite featuring future projects by GM’s Advanced Design team.

Interacting directly with designers, consumers can share input on designs and technologies being considered for future proj-ects. Those who provide detailed demographic information may be invited to participate at a deeper level in future sessions.

2010 launch vehicles by Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC

GM’s four core brands are launching six all-new vehicles for 2010. Here’s a brand-by-brand look at what’s new:

Buick: The all-new Buick LaCrosse continues a brand renais-sance begun by the Enclave luxury crossover. The LaCrosse is a completely redesigned luxury sedan that offers a sculpted exterior and luxurious cabin; advanced, intelligent personal technologies and safety features; and a choice of two fuel-saving, direct injected V-6 engines. A 2.4L four-cylinder engine joins the lineup later.

Last week, Buick announced it will introduce a compact cross-over SUV next year expected to achieve more than 30 mpg on the highway, followed in 2011 by a plug-in hybrid.

Cadillac: GM’s luxury brand launches the SRX crossover and the CTS Sport Wagon into the luxury market, featuring Cadillac’s signature design and technology.

The new SRX is designed to make more inroads into the previ-ously conservative luxury crossover category. A new, 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine is standard, and a new, 2.8L turbocharged V-6 is optional. Both feature greater fuel economy and lower emissions.

The CTS Sport Wagon is a progressive take on the classic wagon body style that delivers significant functionality and fuel efficiency, including an estimated 28 mpg highway. Essentially the same size as the acclaimed CTS sport sedan on the outside, it nearly doubles the cargo carrying capacity, with 25 cubic feet

(720 liters) of space behind the rear seats and 53.4 cubic feet (1,523 liters) with the rear seat folded.

Chevrolet: The new Chevrolet Camaro returns after a seven-year hiatus. Its combination of efficient performance, which delivers up to 29 mpg highway and heritage-inspired design exemplify Chevrolet’s commitment to great design and fuel-efficiency.

The all-new Chevrolet Equinox blends distinctive design and outstanding roominess with class-leading efficiency. Chevrolet expects nearly two-thirds of customers will choose the efficient 2.4L engine – standard on all models – that delivers best-in-class EPA-rated 32 mpg highway (FWD models).

GMC: The all-new GMC Terrain crossover SUV offers outstanding fuel econ-omy along with the capa-bility, engineering excel-lence and refinement that have defined GMC for more than a century. Like other GMC vehicles, the Terrain’s design is characterized by elements that suggest mus-cularity, with a prominent front end and squared-off edges.

Caleal (1912–2006) the self-taught son of immigrant Lebanese parents, rose to lead advanced styling for Ford Motor Company and was the chief designer of the groundbreaking '49 Ford.

Kamm (1893–1966) was a pioneering German aerodynamicist best known for his breakthroughs in reducing car turbulence at high speeds.

Sperlich, former Chrysler president, was chief architect of the original Ford Mustang and Chrysler minivan, and has earned a reputation as perhaps the greatest post-War product planner.

Thompson (1928–1988), also a member of the SEMA Hall of Fame, was the most versatile of all racers, winning with hot rods, dragsters, streamliners and sports cars, and dominated at Baja and Bonneville. Off the track he was a pioneer of the after-market performance parts industry.

In addition to the inductions, the Automotive Hall of Fame named four recipients of its Young Leadership & Excellence Award. As a way of identifying the next generation of leadership in the motor vehicle industry, recipients must be no older than 40 years of age, making outstanding contributions to their respec-tive companies or the industry at large.

The 2009 recipients included Jesse Berger, President, Eastern Michigan Kenworth Inc.; Gregory S. Christensen, Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor, Ford Motor Company; Dilip Dubey, Chief Executive Officer, Netlink; and Christine K. Lambert, Technical Leader, Ford Motor Company.

The Automotive Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring the men and women of the global motor vehicle and related industries and preserving the history of mobility by celebrating the creativity, toil and genius of the individual. For more information, visit www.automotivehalloffame.org. SG

Ask The Expert

Dear Expert:As I prepare for winter weather,

what products or accessories should I consider for my pickup truck (which I use for both work and recreational)?

Jeremy F. – Pigeon Forge, TN

Dear Jeremy:One of the biggest problems you run

into when the thermometer starts to take a dip is iced-over windshields. Instead of throwing out your back scraping the ice off your glass, you can block it from forming with a quality snow shade. Or, you can cut right through that frigid mess with windshield washer heaters. AutoAnything has these and plenty more winter car accessories and winter truck accessories to take the stress out of your winter wonderland. What’s more, AutoAnything also stocks a large selection of tire chains to boost your traction of slippery streets. And, you can even pick up a full-blown snow plow to make quick work of clearing your driveway of the white stuff. No matter what kind of winter driving accessories you need, AutoAnything is your source.

Snow chains wrap your wheels in the burly protection that you need to head out on all of your winter adventures without slipping and sliding off the road. The strong snow chains and tire chains are made from high-quality materials that blow those chintzy checkpoint chains away. And, if you need a rack along with your snow chains, check out the wide selection of new ski racks and snowboard racks.

Snow Shades protect your windshield from freezing over in the middle of winter. Made to withstand wind, sleet, snow and ice, the right snow shade will cut down on defrost time.

Nothing’s worse than rushing out to your car in the morning when you’re late for work only to discover that your windshield has an inch of ice on it. Ditch your scrapper and step up to a windshield washer heater. Powerful windshield washer fluid heaters cut through ice fast, getting you on the road safely and quickly.

A snow plow for your truck or SUV lets you easily push the powder yourself. Forget paying a pro to do your drive—an SUV or truck snow plow puts you in charge. And, over time, a snow plow for your truck, van or SUV can pay for itself. SG
