Welcome Back! I’m looking forward to 2010-2011 school year. I enjoyed meeting you at the back to

school night. One of my job responsibilities is to keep your child’s files updated and

current. I need your help in the following areas:

If you have updated immunizations, please give the office a copy of the immuniza-

tion card.

Always update information such as telephone numbers, e-mails, new address, change

of doctors, allergies your child has developed, etc… This information is vital in case of

an emergency.

Preschool and Kindergarten Corner

Time is flying by very fast at ASA! Our preschoolers phased in smoothly as they got to know

each other and become comfortable with daily classroom routines under the watchful eyes of our

skilled and dedicated teachers.

I’m pleased to announce that our first Preschool and Kindergarten Parents’ Auxiliary (PKPA) has

taken form through the participation of eighteen enthusiastic parents. We will be meeting once a

month to discuss issues related to the preschool, to plan and implement activities, and to have all

the parents involved in the process. My goal is for every parent to feel included in our school’s

community.

Our first activity was the parenting workshop with Nora Kelechian, a licensed Marriage and Family

Therapist. The response was great as we had more than thirty parents attending the workshop. The

topic of the day was: “Effective discipline Techniques.” Through interaction and humor, parents

were introduced to different approaches and techniques for setting boundaries with their children

and for being consistent with their discipline methods.

Dear Parents, I value your involvement in school activities and would love to see you at every

event. I would also love to hear from you, so do not hesitate to call or email me with your questions

and concerns.

Please mark your calendars for upcoming events.

- October 30th - Armenian Cultural Day from 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

- November 12th - Parenting workshop from 7: 00 p.m.-9:00 p. m.

The preschool staff and I are looking forward to a wonderful school year!

Warm Regards,

Sonia Kazandjian

Preschool Director

ASA Sports Corner Ready for another great year? After last year’s triumphs and

accomplishments, the ASA Crusaders will soon start gearing

up for a new school year. This year, we are excited to an-

nounce the introduction of Table Tennis in our team sports

line-up. Basketball practices will, of course, continue to run

strong in preparation for competitions. Parents, please don’t

forget to include a healthy snack for your children to munch

on before the start of practice.

Additionally, we would like to remind everyone that the Sports Committee’s fund-

raiser, the Brownie Bake Sale, will be offered twice a month. Homemade brownies

will be on sale at snack time for $1 each.

We are excited to be back and look forward to another fun year!

Student Council Election

The blood pulsing and pumping in his head, stretching to his hands as he lays the pa-

per on the podium, and thus the candidate begins to speak. His words flow and exit,

streaming easier and easier out of the mouth and into the ears of the voters . Step-

ping down, the throbbing in his head begins to calm and the fiery veil flies off the

face. The candidate sits.

All the brave students who campaigned and spoke in front of the school really

deserve a pat on the back. Even those who didn't win, getting up there and saying

what they said was a true accomplishment, no matter how you look at it. beginning

from the second week of October through the third, students competed with each

other to win a spot on the council, a place of prized pride. The people that made it

onto council battled with cunning words and ideas until the winners were chosen.

Student Government will do all in its power to make this year another great year

one that will be full of fun events and fundraisers. Thank you

Arin Shahjahanian

President of Student Government
