Coaching StaffBrian Flynn begins his second season as the head coach of the Bridgewater College

men’s and women’s cross country teams.In his first season at the helm, two BC women - Olivia Mills and Molly Smith - earned

first team All-ODAC honors while Jake Griffin garnered first-team recognition on the women’s isde. All three runners gained All-South/Southeast Region honors and Mills went on to become the first Bridgewater College femaile runner to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Flynn comes to Bridgewater College after one year as a Division I assistant coach at University of North Carolina-Greensboro. While there, he coached four all-conference cross country runners and helped lead the men’s cross country team to its highest finish in school history at the conference and NCAA regional meets.

Prior to coaching at UNC-G, Flynn spent three seasons as an assistant coach in cross country and track and field at Coe College, a Division III school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Flynn coached five All-Americans and 13 conference champions.

Flynn is no stranger to the ODAC as he competed at Lynchburg College where he was a four-time all-conference runner in cross country. On the track he earned five ODAC indi-

vidual titles and was a 12-time all-conference nominee. He was a member of eight ODAC championship track teams and two cross country championship teams.

Flynn is a member of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and USA Track and Field.Flynn will also serve as an assistant track and field coach for the Eagles.

Brian Flynn, Head Coach

Denver Davis begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Bridgewater College Eagles cross country program.

Since 2005, Davis has served as assistant head coach for boys and girls cross country and track & field at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Va.

While at Lake Braddock, Davis has coached 32 all-district, 11 all-region and three all-state cross country performers. He also coached two district champions and two regional champions in cross country. He helped guide the boys and girls teams to five district titles, two regional titles and and one state championship.

Davis received his bachelor of arts in history from Lynchburg College and his masters in history from George Mason University.

While at Lynchburg, Davis competed for the Hornets in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. He was a member of two ODAC cross country championship teams He was a member of four ODAC title teams in both indoor and outdoor track. Davis was a member of the 2005 indoor distance medley relay team that won the event at the conference meet while setting a new conference record.

Davis was also a four-time academic All-ODAC pick in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track while at Lynchburg College.

2010 Season In Review

Women Place Third At ODAC MeetThe Bridgewater College women’s cross country team turned in a solid

effort in 2010, capped by a third-place finish at the ODAC meet.The Eagles, led by Olivia Mills’ first-place run, started the season with a

third-place finish at the ODAC Preview meet. The Eagles won the team title at the Hood Invitational with Mills and Molly Smith taking the top two spots.

Bridgewater put two runners on the All-ODAC first team when Mills placed second and Smith finished seventh at the ODAC meet. Katie Notaran-gelo earned second-team honors with a 14th-place finish.

Mills and Smith both earned All-South/Southeast Region honors by plac-ing in the Top 35 at the NCAA regional meet.

Mills sixth-place regional finish was good enough to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III National Meet - the first time in BC program history that a women’s runner qualified for the national meet.

The Eagles also fared well in the classroom as they were named an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA.

The Bridgewater College men’s cross country team turned in a solid ef-fort in 2010, capped by a fourth-place finish at the ODAC meet.

The Eagles won the team title at the Hood Invitational with senior Jake Griffin claiming the individual crown. Teammates Paul Johnson and Ryan Speray also turned in Top 10 effort with Johnson taking sixth placed, just ahead of Speray in seventh.

Griffin clained second-team All-ODAC honors with a 10th-place effort at the conference meet. He also earned All-South/Southeast Region recognition with a 34th-palce finish at the NCAA regional meet.

Strength and Conditioning

Maintaining top physical condition is the job of the strength and conditioning staff. The goal of the strength and conditioning staff is to undertake reduce the risk of athletic injury, develop the force potential (strength and power) of each athlete, enhance the specific movement patterns related to their activity and address the energy needs for each sport. Ultimately the staff intends to maximize the athletic potential of each of our student athletes.

College athletics has evolved to the point where total physical prepa-ration is necessary to be successful. Bridgewater employs a five-member athletic training staff. Under the tutilege of Director Barbara Long, the group of Sarah Cook, Chase Hale, Ellen Hicks and Scott Powers serve as Assistant Athletic Trainers for the entire Bridgewater College Athletics Department.

Bridgewater employs five Certified Athletic Train-ers. Each sport has an ATC that is assigned to their sport, providing nearly full-time coverage to each of the Eagles’ 20 sports teams.

Bridgewater’s ATCs have more than 70 years of cumulative professional experience in high schools, colleges, outpatient orthopedic clin-ics, medical sales, physician extenders and elite sports with the US Olympic Training Center and USA Wrestling Federation.
