C o rr a l i s t h e f i r s t A m e r i c a n A t h l e t i c Conference Midfielder of the Year after earning the same honor in the former Big East last season. This season, Corral was

the overall conference scoring leader, totaling 13 goals and 11 assists for 37 points. She also led Louisville in every offensive category. With 103 shots, Corral led The American by an 18-shot margin, and validated high expectations after being one of two unanimous selections to the American Athletic Conference Preseaon Team. She has become a mainstay in the lineup of the Mexican National Team as well, and was Mexico’s leading scorer at the 2013 World University Games this past summer.

D i g g s wa s n a m e d Defensive Player of the Year after leading The American’s top backline in the UCF Knights. On the year, UCF allowed

the fewest goals in the league (11), averaging less than one per game, as well as the best conference record at 8-0-1. Heading into the semifinals, the Knights are in the midst of a school record 16-game unbeaten streak, eight of which have been shutouts. This is the second-straight Defensive Player of the Year award for Diggs, who earned the same honor in Conference USA last season. She also was honored previously this year as the American Athlet ic Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Petermann earned Rookie of the Year on the heels of eight goals and four assists for 20 points on the season . She was

named Rookie of the Week a conferece-best four times in 2013.

In only her first year at the helm for the Knights, head coach T i f f a n y R o b e r t s Sahaydak led UCF t o t h e i n a u g u r a l

American Athletic Conference regular season title, with a 8-0-1 conference record and 16-2-2 overall record heading into the semifinals. The Knights have been the only conference team to receive national recognition in both the NSCAA and Soccer America polls every week in 2013, and led the conference in goals allowed (11), goals against average (0.54) and shutouts (10). UCF was the only team to go unbeaten in conference play this season, and its only two losses came to Tennessee and No. 3 Florida State.

In playing only 11 games out of 16 on the season, Koski was Houston’s mainstay this season, making 90 saves with an .818

save percentage and a 1.98 goals against average. On Sept. 9, she set a Houston record for saves in a game after turning away 17 shots for the Cougars in a 1-1 draw with San Diego State. In conference games, Koski led The American with 7.14 saves per game, and as of the NCAA statistics rankings released on Nov. 1, her save percentage ranks sixth in Division I. Her 18 shutouts through her career also tops the Cougar record books.

uCF SoCCER ANd TRACk CoMPlEXThe inaugural American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will be played at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex in Orlando, Fla. on Nov. 8 and 10.

“We’re excited about hosting the first-ever American Athletic Conference women’s soccer championship,” says UCF Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury. “The UCF Soccer Complex has been host to numerous NCAA and conference postseason events in the past and we’re happy to welcome our American Athletic Conference colleagues for the semifinals and finals this November. The UCF Soccer Complex has a top-notch playing surface for the teams and plenty of great seats for fans. It should be a wonderful event.”

The UCF Soccer and Track Complex serves as home for the Knights’ men’s and women’s soccer and women’s track and field programs. The facility, originally built in 1991, was re-opened in May 2011 following the construction of a grandstand seating facility on the west side.

Surrounding one of the top pitches in all of college soccer is an eight-lane, 400-meter track featuring a Martin Surface that was refurbished in the summer of 2004. In 2008, an expanded throwing area for the hammer, discus and shotput was also added to the complex. Both long jump and triple jump pits were rebuilt prior to the 2008 season.

A new grandstand section, along with on-site restrooms, was added in the most recent phase of construction. The grandstand brought an additional 1,475 seats, bringing the total capacity to more than 2,000 for the entire complex. The new press box comfortably sits media members along with event and department staffs. Fans also enjoy a new sound system that helps improve the game day atmosphere.

The men’s and women’s soccer teams also have access to the soccer practice field, located northeast of the UCF Soccer and Track Complex and just outside IOA Plaza of Bright House Networks Stadium.

Up-to-date information regarding the 2013 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship will be available through Championship Central (www.theamerican.org.) Media credentials can be obtained through emailing [email protected].

Quick Facts• Cost was roughly $1.2 million • New stands with seating capacity for 1,475 fans, bringing total complex capacity to over 2,000 • New press box with sound system • Permanent restroom facilities on site • New fencing around entire complex • New main entranceway with ornamental fencing and brick pillars with UCF logos

AMERICAN AThlETIC CoNFERENCE

Not entirely unlike the nation that provides its name-sake, the American Athletic Conference was born from an ideal in which members with ambitious goals are provided with the means to succeed in their quests for excellence.

With roots that extend to three conferences, the American Athletic Conference membership in 2013 – its debut season – consists of 10 institutions: the University of Central Florida, the University of Cin-cinnati, the University of Connecticut, the University of Houston, the University of Louisville, the Univer-sity of Memphis, Rutgers University, Southern Meth-odist University, the University of South Florida and Temple University. All members sponsor women’s soccer, making 2013-14 a ten-member league for the sport.

In 2014-15, East Carolina University, Tulane University and the University of Tulsa come aboard. The 2015-16 season sees the U.S. Naval Academy join the ranks in football only.

The American, which operated as the Big East Confer-ence from 1979 to 2013, will immediately take a place at the forefront of Division I athletics, with schools that have played in a combined five Bowl Champion-ship Series games, won four NCAA men’s basketball titles since 1999, and won eight NCAA women’s bas-ketball championships since 1995.

The 2013 season will mark the final year of a six-year arrangement with ESPN that gives The American national exposure on ABC television and the ESPN family of networks. ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC will carry a minimum of 19 American home football games each season. Championship Week in December in-cludes three American games on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. At least four American games are featured on ESPN’s Thursday-night package.

In addition, ESPN Regional Television will continue to produce and distribute its Game of the Week package to a nationally syndicated audience, reaching more than 30 million homes. Most of these games also will be available as part of the ESPN GamePlan subscrip-tion service. Finally, a minimum of five home games will be carried on ESPNU.

WoMEN’S SoCCER

In its inaugural year, The American is fortunate to be able to draw from the previous successes and tradi-tions already established in its 10 inaugural women’s soccer programs.

Two programs, UCF and Rutgers, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship in 2012.UCF advanced after winning the 2012 Conference USA Championship.

Seven teams finished last season ranked in the top 100 of the final NCAA RPI rankings, with six of the seven in the top 64. UCF closed out 2012 at No. 20 and enters 2013 at No. 21, while Louisville finished No. 40 with Rutgers right behind at No. 41. USF checked in at No. 51, UConn at No. 60 and SMU at No. 63.

The league will add two more top-tier programs to the group in the fall of 2014 in Tulsa and East Caro-lina. Tulsa finished runner-up to UCF in the 2012 Con-ference USA tournament, while East Carolina also capped a top-100 RPI ranking last season.

The state-of-the-art UCF Soccer and Track Complex will host the first American Athletic Conference Wom-en’s Soccer Championship on Nov. 8 (semifinals) and 10 (finals). First round and quarterfinal games will be held at campus sites on Oct. 31 and Nov. 3.
