GOD HAS BROUGHT MEGOD HAS BROUGHT MEGOD HAS BROUGHT MEGOD HAS BROUGHT ME LAUGHTERLAUGHTERLAUGHTERLAUGHTER We love comedians. We love to laugh. Red Skelton and Lucille Ball, Laurel and Hardy, and the list goes on.

Take a look at the types of films out there, which are really common themes in life's story. Film types include Romance, Action-adventure, Drama, Western, Science Fiction and Comedy&just to name a few. And there can elements of each type blended in each of those stories we watch.

Someone once said, "Perhaps God is a comedian, playing to an audience that is afraid to laugh". What do you think? I can tell you this – there is trouble in this old world. We know God loves us. We know He is here with us in our troubles. We know we have no condemnation before Him, when our faith is in Christ. We know that Heaven is our home, and death is no threat. We know that no matter the mud that we might accumulate on our feet, He will help us scrape it off and keep walking. We know, too, that sometimes bad things happen to His children. We are not immune from trouble, but we are immune to defeat. We have an uncommon victory in Christ. We know too, that God wants us happy, that He has blessed us. That He has given us green pastures, still waters and an overflowing cup.

That begins to sound like a God who loves us so much, He would be sad if we were not smiling

once in a while, and that breaking out into unrestrained laughter is very much a thing that God would want for us.

He is the Author of laughter! The Lord tells us in the third chapter of the book of Ecclesiastes, that laughter has its place in our lives...

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."

Sarah, who once laughed in doubt of the Lord, later laughed with joy at His blessings that came to her, in spite of her doubt... "Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." And she added, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age." Genesis 21: 5-7. (Continued on page 2)

(Continued from page 1) Like Sarah, God has blessed us too. Often we see only the troubles that have met us on the path. But the blessings from the Lord, in spite of our shortcomings, are gifts that we too can say, "God has brought me laughter." He wants us happy and joyful in the midst of this troublesome world. Our Saviour Church is part of His package of blessing in your life. I cannot tell you how often at church meetings, one or more participants will break out in laughter, share an uncommon joy, tell a humorous story and make us smile. The devil would like to whisper at us, "Shhh, this is church, a holy place, you cannot laugh and smile here, that would offend God!" Ha! It’s just the opposite. God wants us happy. He is so overjoyed that we are in His house, doing His work, that He is the inspiration of our joy. We have none without Him! We have a bottomless chest of it with Him!

So, you think you have troubles? So many that laughter is out of the question? Do the participants at your pity-party keep you from joy? Do Misery and Discouragement, Fear and Self-Pity keep a frown on your face? I give you Job. He lost it all, yes EVERYTHING. Something appeared on his face that surprised his doubting friends, a smile. Let's look at it... "When I smiled at them, they scarcely believed it; the light of my face was precious to them." Job 29:23-25 There was a boat load of suffering in Job's life, yes. But the joy God gave him still came through the dark clouds. And so, let's relax a bit, see the blessings, thank Him, and laugh like a child on his daddy's knee. We are in the hands of a great and loving God, who has showered us with a bountiful basket of treasures. Have you counted your treasures lately? They will make you smile.

WHAT’S THE NEWS ON THE HEARING LOOP?Folks who use a hearing aid often cannot hear the sounds that come through a public address [PA] system. For some of our members with hearing aids, that means they cannot hear or understand the pastor when leading worship because their voices are amplified. We have received seed money to purchase a ‘hearing loop’, which would be a solution to that problem, and further gifts are being invited. An explanation of what a hearing loop is and how it works was in the May issue of The Voice. A matching gift is available for those who can donate towards this project, which has a cost of approximately $5,900. More than $2,400 has been raised so far. Please help us reach this goal so that everyone can enjoy the wonderful messages from our pastors.

SUPER SALE NEEDS DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS

MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW…the Super Sale is on Saturday, August 16 from 8am – 4pm.

We are currently accepting your donations…and even donations from your neighbors! Items can be brought to the basement or bring after July 27 and everything can go into the gym.

Please make sure everything is clean and in good working condition. Through the years, we have earned a reputation for selling top notch merchandise and we want to uphold that reputation. We need your dishes, furniture, small appliances, pictures and frames, sporting goods, garden tools, books and CDs/DVDs/VHS tapes, jewelry, home decorations, kitchen ware, bed and bath items, electronics, games and puzzles. Please DO NOT bring clothes, shoes, mattresses, TVs/monitors (except flat panel), car seats, cribs or encyclopedias. If you have a question, please ask. If you need pick up service for large items, contact Michelle in the church office (468-4065 / [email protected]) to arrange a day/time.

We will begin setting up the gym on Saturday, July 26. Workers are needed to set up tables and begin bringing merchandise from the basement. Preparation of items will begin on Monday, July 28 at 9AM. We welcome help anytime from 9AM-3 PM on any weekday. Come for any amount of time that you are able. If you want to spend the day, bring a lunch and share fellowship time with other volunteers. Donations will be taken until Wednesday, August 13 at 3PM. This deadline allows us to prepare your donations for the sale.

Please watch for more announcements about sign-up sheets to help on the day of the sale. We will especially need people for the morning, so please consider saving a few hours that day to volunteer at the sale. If you have somewhere to hang a poster, please ask Michelle for one. Tell your friends, family and neighbors to come early for the best selection. If you have any comments, questions or want to help, please call Jill Proulx @ 465-1437 H, 265-1402 Cell or [email protected].

THIS THANK YOU IS OVERDUE! This past year we set sales records during our nine monthly fish fries, two of which fell in the Lenten season. The great food and abundant fellowship for these Friday night events only happens because of all of the wonderful volunteers who give up one Friday night (or Thursday night for prep) each month September thru May. We are impacting our neighbors by showing them the love of Jesus in our service to them through this event. There are not enough ‘THANK YOUS’ that can be said to all of you. To join the team, email [email protected].

DID SOMEONE SAY GOLF?DID SOMEONE SAY GOLF?DID SOMEONE SAY GOLF?DID SOMEONE SAY GOLF? – Yes, it’s almost time for the OSLC Golf

Outing. We will start this year with a shotgun start at noon on August 3rd. Email the church office or sign up in the Narthex. Bring a four-some or just

you to enjoy golf (and maybe a fundraiser or two), prizes, fellowship and a meal. Please bring a dish to share; the main meat will be provided. Watch the weekly bulletin for updates.
