Leading Russian Pointe for 18 years has reinforced my

understanding of the impact dance can have on our lives.

As the company has grown, constantly innovating and expanding

into global markets and a varied product line, we have kept close

to our roots, listening to and learning from the dancers who use

our products. In recent years, I’ve had the honor of seeing dancers

through from their very first fittings to wonderful careers as

performers and teachers, always in Russian Pointes.

In my visits to studios, summer intensives and competitions, I’ve

met so many articulate and charming young people, whom I can

picture succeeding in whatever careers they choose. Dancers have

a uniquely intelligent and thoughtful approach to life, with a great

willingness to work hard to achieve their goals. These qualities are

valuable for any profession.

Russian Pointe is dedicated to inspiring great performance. In

Born in 1881 in St. Petersburg, Russia, the

legendary Anna Pavlova became the shining star

of the Imperial Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre

and created an international sensation with

Ballets Russes and her own touring company.

She was known for both the lightness of her style

and the strength of her technique, and her fame

helped bring the art of ballet to the public eye in

the early 20th century.

Anna Pavlova’s ethereal grace inspired the

creation of the Pavlova dessert, a light and airy

meringue topped with fresh berries.

Meringue

4 egg whites1 1/8 c. white sugar1/8 tsp. cream of tartar1 tsp. lemon juice1 tsp. vanilla extract2 tsp. cornstarch

Filling & topping

¾ c. heavy cream2 tsp. confectioner’s sugarberries and/or other fruit

Preheat oven to 350°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

To make the meringue shell, whip the egg whites until they start to become stiff (forming soft peaks). While continuing to whip, add the cream of tartar and gradually add the sugar. Whip until mixture is thick and glossy and forms stiff peaks. Gently fold in the vanilla, lemon juice and cornstarch until mixed well.

Use a spoon or pastry bag to create a neat circle of the mixture on the baking sheet, 6-8 inches in diameter. Form a bowl shape by hollowing out the center and raising the sides.

Place in oven and reduce temperature to 250°. Bake for 1 hour, until the outside is crisp and the edges are creamy gold (not browned). When baking is done, turn off the oven but leave the meringue inside for at least 15 minutes. When it is fully cool, carefully remove to a serving plate.

Just before serving, whip the cream and confectioner’s sugar until stiff, and then spoon into the meringue shell. Top with fresh fruit ina beautiful design. Berries are the most traditionaltopping, but Pavlova variations featurea spectrum of fruits, so feel freeto be creative!

POINTE SPECIFICATIONS

PRE-ARCHED CONSTRUCTIONRussian Pointe’s Pre-Arched Construction involves an innovative design process throughout the pointe shoe, including the shank, sole and fabric of the shoe. Pre-arching creates a closer alignment with the shape of the foot on pointe, to minimize break-in time and reduce strain on the shank. Pre-Arched Construction can help lower-arched dancers reach full pointe and reduce pressure on the instep for higher-arched dancers.

RUSSIAN POINTE SHANKSThe strength of a Russian Pointe shank depends on its length and design. Dancers should choose shanks that best match the shape of their feet as well as their support needs.
