A Place In The Heart Theatre Company Founder
PRESTON COGHILL FOUNDER/ PRESIDENT ( July 27, 1973 - Greenville, N.C.) proudly professes that from his
earliest childhood memories he was always drawn to unique designs and creations that blended color, style and
creativity and that he was destined to express his creative ideas through food, flowers and the arts. He set out on a
mission to create an environment that would bring his interest, talent and passion together in a way that would be
rewarding for him and most memorable for any customer or client looking for a unique flair to their special
occasion. Coghill attended Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute in Providence, RI and embarked on a creative
entrepreneurial journey opening the Enchanted Banquet and Special Event Company, allowing him to nurture
both his culinary and floral design talents into eye-catching wedding cakes and floral arrangements in the North
Carolina Triangle area. He has created for many governmental agencies and celebrities that include: Gospel
greats Pastor Shirley Caesar, Pastor John P. Keys, R& B icons Patty LaBelle, and Gladys Knight. January 2000, Coghill
headed to Las Vegas, Nev. where he was immediately hired as lead designer for Creative Designs at Nellis Air
Force Base. Word of his talent and unique flair quickly spread and he soon earned a reputation as one of the top
floral designers in a city where image and presentation is everything. Producing major lobby pieces for the MGM
Hotel and Casino, Fitzgerald Hotel; his pieces were so appreciated he was asked to design and decorate the
wedding featured on the television reality show “The Casino”(2004). Coghill’s journey included being lead designer
for one of the premiere florist in Las Vegas, Flowers by Toni, which allowed his designs to be featured is resorts on
the famous Las Vegas Strip including: Paris Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, Imperial Palace, MGM Grand, The Mirage
and a host of others. By 2007, the renowned Jason Kenneth Designs of Costa Mesa, Calif., Las Vegas location
offered him the position of lead designer were he spearheaded mock-ups and designs for General William Lyon of
William Lyons Homes, Toyota Material Handling U.S.A, the Greenspun family, Sheldon G. Adelson, Vegas.com, Larry
Ruvo of Southern Wine and Spirits, Turnberry Place Las Vegas Tower 3, Lennar Homes, Gold Coast Hotel & Casino,
Dragon Ridge Country Club, Hilton Grand Vacations, and Italian restaurants Canaletto and the multiple award-
winning Valentino at The Venetian Las Vegas.
He started 2008 as executive chef and designer for Ovanna’s Gourmet Catering in Henderson, Nev. and by year’s
end, the Encore and Wynn Las Vegas approached him to apply for a Lead floral and décor designer to facilitate
décor and color pallets for the new Encore Resorts.
In the middle of 2009, the recession hit and was laid off without any direction of where to turn. So I return back
to my roots and was rehired at Flowers by Toni where I was introduced to a playwright, director/producer of
Broadway style plays. Personal assistant to the world renown Stage play, writer, producer, movie creator Tyler
Perry. With the start of a conversation at my dinner table in October 2009, a friendship and bond developed
with the talented and gifted Torrey Russell thus forming this A Source Of Joy Theatricals, Inc. was formed to
introduce kids in urban neighborhoods throughout the country to theater and culinary arts and making us a
force to be reckoned with. A Source of Joy Theatricals/Broadway in the Hood began its journey for 6 years
where we were honored by the city and state of Nevada with Broadway in the Hood day, recognized for it’s
work within the community for bringing live Broadway style shows to the inner city and youth development
within the community. We were recognized with the news and media circuits throughout the city and nearby
states. In 2010, nominated to be a part of the gifting ceremony for the Golden Globes. Nominated in 2010 for
the NAACP Theatre Festival in Los Angeles and numerous of other community awards throughout, leading up to
the 2014 nomination of the Emmy Award. Also, in 2014, Torrey Russell and Preston Coghill was asked to be a
special guest for a special show of the “DOCTORS” where they were giving the opportunity to relax and be
pampered for the hard work and dedication they have given to the community. In 2015, Torrey Russell and
Preston Coghill decided to part ways and end the partnership with A Source of Joy Theatricals/Broadway in the
Hood. Preston continued his journey and opened Coghill’s Gourmet Catering and Entertainment Lounge in Las
Vegas where he continued his foodservice and floral talents where he was fortunate to cater for the Miss
Nevada Scholarship Organization for Jodi Hale Fonfa, Fashion Designer David Tupaz Coutour, James Pickens, jr
(Dr. Webber on Greys Anatomy), Sonya Eddy (General Hospital and Boy Meets World), Denise Williams (R&B
Legend). With all of the notable achievements living in the amazing and entertaining city of entertainment,
Preston feels that it is now time to move back to his roots and share the journey with those within his hometown
that can benefit from those achievements. Begin the new journey in his life by opening a new venture called A
Place In the Heart Theatre Company… A theatre company that will showcase all the talents he has possessed
throughout the years. From the Catering, Floral Design, Theatre, Directing, Business Development and
manufacturing new products. This has been the vision he has looked forward to for a long time…

From an award-winning novel to a feature film and national Broadway production, "The Color Purple" has captured audiences and gained fans throughout the world. This
weekend, Broadway in the Hood brings the story to life with a local twist .
The 40-person cast of valley residents and special guests Bubba Knight from Gladys Knight & the Pips and Gospel singer Lecresia Campbell are set to perform four shows at
the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
Torrey Russell, "The Color Purple" director and founder of Broadway in the Hood, said this production provides aspects that are different from what one would expect on
the national level.
"I'm looking forward to bringing in a community that wouldn't have the opportunity to see this show at The Smith Center," Russell said. "They don't have to spend $50 to
have that experience. It's an opportunity to see the level of talent we have here in Las Vegas."
The cast ranges from children as young as 6 to adults in their 60s. Russell said the actors were chosen from more than 300 people who auditioned in a two-day span.
Tianna Lewis, who plays the role of Celie, initially auditioned for any role in the production and was surprised to secure the lead. Lewis said relaying that "The Color Purple's"
tale of love and pain is her favorite part about being in the production. More of story on line…

As the creative forces behind the nonprofit organization A Source of Joy Theatricals, Torrey Russell and Preston Coghill are making a splash in Las Vegas with Broadway in
the Hood.
On a mission to showcase talented actors, dancers and singers from disadvantaged areas, “We go into neighborhoods around the city, and also visit organizations that
assist the less fortunate, such as Shade Tree, Space Place and community centers,” said Russell, who has worked with filmmaker Tyler Perry and renowned poet Dr. Maya
Angelou. “We hold auditions in order to find those people who have talent and have not had the opportunity to show it, or who might be going through a hardship that
we can help with.”
Ranging in age from 15-67, the talented Broadway in the Hood cast recently performed in the main showroom at House of Blues Las Vegas, inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel
and Casino. Executives there were immediately impressed with their production of the musical “Hiram & Nettie,” which had been staged at the West Las Vegas Library
Theatre. As it turns out, a union was imminent.
“The musical … ‘Hiram & Nettie’ is based on a true story, written by Terrence Anderson about his ancestors who were slaves and who fell in love,” said Russell. “Hiram was a
dark-skinned slave who fell in love with light-skinned Nettie. They were the first slaves granted permission to get married on a plantation in Virginia. The House of Blues’
representatives graciously invited us to perform our productions in their showroom — but first we had to promise to perform ‘Hiram & Nettie.’” More information on Line
