THE DICCIPLE’S MISSION STRATEGY
Text Matt 28: 18-20
Review
Last study we were told that God has two (2)
purposes for every child of His:
i. To grow to maturity ii. To help others grow
We also were told the four (4) essentials for
maturity: The Holy Spirit, The Bible, Obedience
and a Spiritual Parent.
INTRODUCTION
Today, we will look at the mission for every
disciple and the strategy that God has designed
to fulfill this mission.
To be a Great Christian you need to have a
Great Commitment to the Great
Commandment and the Great Commission.
The great commandment and the great
commission are summarized in Love God and
Love your neighbor.
The Discipleship wheel will further help us
understand how God expects us to carry out this
divine mission.
This wheel has components that describe six (6)
aspects of the disciple’s life.
1. The Hub – Our great commander – Jesus
Christ. He dwells in us by the Holy Spirit who
empowers us, gives us victory over sin and to
accomplish God’s will for our lives.
2. The Rim – Great Commitment – live in
obedience to the two summary commandments
– love God and Love your neighbor.
3. Prayer – One way we communicate with God
and express our worship. Has five parts:
Confession
Adoration
Thanksgiving
Intercession
Petition
4. Word – through the Bible, God communicate to
us everything He wants us to know about
Himself and the true relationship we are to have
with Him.
There are five (5) ways we can get God’s word into
our lives: hear, read, study, memorize and
meditate. It is through prayer and the word we can
obey the first part of the great commandment –
love God.
5. Evangelism – the means by which we share
the gospel message of salvation with lost people
(non-believers).
The process of evangelism has five (5) parts:
Selection – praying for the lost
Cultivation – developing a relationship
Presentation – sharing the gospel
Regeneration – witnessing their rebirth
Conservation – following them up.
Through evangelism we become fishers-of-men ,
Matt. 4:19
6. Discipleship – is the end-product of
evangelism. It is the means by which we relate
with those already in God’s family. It has five (5)
parts:
Submission – making Jesus, Lord.
Instruction – receiving the word.
Conviction – Holy Spirit convicts us.
Application – we apply the word in our lives
Reproduction – we become fruitful in
evangelism or disciple making.
It is the key to guide us to growing to our full
maturity.
It is through evangelism and discipleship that we
can obey the great commission - loving our
neighbours as ourselves.
Questions for Discussion
1. What are the six (6) elements of the
discipleship wheel?
2. Why is the Hub important?
3. Why is obedience (the Rim) important?
4. What are the two commandments of Matt.
22?
5. (a) What two (2) elements enable us develop a relationship with God? (b) What two (2) elements enable us
develop a relationship with our neighbours?
