• Use or make HFW cards.
• Read the words that begin with the same sound.
• Do a Read, Spell, Read drill with a family member or your teacher.

• Read each sentence.
• Circle YES if the underlined word makes sense in the sentence.
• Circle NO if the underlined word does not make sense in the sentence.
• Rewrite the sentence so it makes sense.

Alliteration
Some words begin with the same sound, such as fox and farm. Today we will say words with matching beginning sound.
• Ask an adult at home of your teacher to read the word cards for you.
• Words that have matching beginning sounds.
Phonics/ Phonemic Awareness
Vowel-Consonant-e Pattern
When a word has a vowel-consonant-e pattern, the first vowel stands for a long sound, and the final e is silent. Tune has a long u vowel sound, and these has a long e vowel sound. When consonant g is followed by e or i, it often stands for the j sound. The words gem and cage have the j sound for consonant g. The letters dge also stand for the j sound, as in badge.
• Choose and write the word that completes the sentence.

• Review spelling words.
• Choose a word or two to use in a sentence.
HFW High Frequency Words Practice
• Review your HFW.
• Complete the HFW chart activity!
Vocabulary Verbs
Action words tell what someone or something is doing. Action words are called verbs.
• Read all the words in the box and determine if the word is an action word or not.
• Circle all the action words or verbs.
