Saturday and Sunday

September 7-8, 2019

Over the last several years it has become a tradion for Saint Pat-rick parishioners, lead by mem-

bers of the Knights of Columbus and the Ladies of Saint Patrick Church, to staff the Cute as a Buon Baby Photo Contest booth at the Mushroom Fesval. While at the booth we collect funds to help “at need” children at A. I. DuPont Children’s Hospital. This year we’re acvely looking for 8 to 10 more adult parishioners to help in this worthy cause. Specifically we’re looking for help staffing the booth for a 2 hour shi on either Saturday aernoon on September 7 or Sunday aernoon, September 8.

If you’re able to help, please contact David Chopko at [email protected]. Even if you can’t help, please stop by the booth at the corner of State and Meredith streets to say hello.

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 25, 2019

My Dear Parishioners,

Praised be Jesus Christ! As I write this column on a Monday Morning, I’m watching our refinished Church Pews making their way off an 18-Wheeler parked outside of Church! How awesome, Praise God! While my eyes see that, my head is flooded with all sorts of thoughts and my heart is full of expectaon

and gratude: Expectaon of our return to Church and Gratude for all that has been. To that end, please note the following:

1) NEXT WEEKEND, LABOR DAY WEEKEND IS OUR LAST WEEKEND IN KENNETT HIGH

I express once again my highest praise and gratude to ALL who have made this move to the High School possible. I don’t know what we would have done with it and despite the adjustment, I think it worked out beaufully. It was a great example of God’s Providence. In addion to all our parishioners who assisted with the inial move and then the weekly set ups, I am most grateful to the people of Kenne Consolidated Schools. It all began with Dr. Barry Tomase the Superintendant of Kenne Consolidated School District responding promptly to my phone call back in June of 2018. From the start, he opened his doors to us and we are much indebted to his leadership and graciousness. I hope our parish will always be as open to KHS as they have been to us, this summer. Once those doors were opened, I was introduced to Mr. George Wolhafe, Director of Facilies for the School District. George was a gentlemen and his staff of workers were second to none. I don’t think we could have been treated more kindly by anyone. Hats off to the maintenance crew who were there to meet/greet each week and operate the elevator/keep all in order. Finally, to the Kenne High Students who took care of the sound system. Well Done.

2) WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 7/8: OUR RETURN BACK TO CHURCH.

Please not the following:

a) It is Mushroom Weekend, so be paent, streets/roads/parking to and at Church will be limited. We’ve been spoiled this summer with a big parking lot. So be paent.

b) Regular Mass Schedule will be back in effect: 5PM VIGIL, 7:30, 9, 10:30 and Noon.

c) Most everything in Church will be new: Sound System, Floor, Sanctuary Furnishings, everything. So while we will be back in on this first weekend, there will be work connuing and no doubt adjustments will need to be made. Again, paence.

d) Daily Masses will resume on Monday, September 9th.

e) The Consecraon of the Altar is set for the Noon Mass on Sunday, October 6.

Finally, as families adjust this week to the back to school and we ready for our move back to Church, we welcome to our staff, Jenn Keller, our Director of Parish Engagement. Jenn will be a big help our parish as we seek ways of engaging our parishioners more fully. Our Jubilee Year has done that well, Jenn will assist that development far beyond our Jubilee. Welcome Aboard, Jenn!

That’s all for now, folks! Connued prayers…

Peace, Fr. Rogers 236

CATHOLICISM

THE PIVOTAL PLAYERS

VOLUME 1

CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players showcases a handful of saints, arsts, myscs, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of western civilizaon.

St. Francis of Assisi, the Reformer, radically and literally lived as Jesus commanded to transform the Church.

St. Thomas Aquinas, the Theologian, demonstrated that faith and reason are not at odds, as they come from the same source.

St. Catherine of Siena, the Mysc, gave tesmony to the reality of the spiritual dimension here and beyond.

John Henry Newman, the Convert, le a presgious career to seek and preach the apostolic faith.

G.K. Chesterton, the Evangelist, publicly, humbly, and humorous-ly announced the paradoxes and truth of Chrisanity.

Michelangelo, the Arst, dramacally demonstrated that beauty and creavity are a primary route of access to God.

Journey with Bishop Barron to explore the lasng influence of these Pivotal Players. Our parish journey begins on Wednesday, September 11 through Wednesday, December 18, 2019. For more informaon, please contact Deacon Jim Ellio through the parish office.

Holy Land Chrisans Display

On the weekend of August 31-September 1, there will be a display of beauful olivewood handmade carvings from the Holy Land in the lobby of Kenne High School. As Chris-ans of faith, it is our duty to support our

brothers and sisters in Bethlehem. You can support them by purchasing some of these beauful carvings aer Mass.

DID YOU KNOW? Aer ten years at Bishop Kenrick, Father Sharre was appointed as principal at Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster. There were separate girls’ and boys’ schools in the same facility. Fr. Sharre was principal of the girls’ high school, where about 1,500 girls were enrolled. He was responsible for the usual obligaons of a school principal-planning, ensuring that educaonal standards are met, hiring and firing of personnel, fund raising, etc. He was also an acve member of the Middle States Associaon. In that role he was involved in peer review and accreditaon of other schools in that organizaon. Aer 23 years in educaon Fr. Sharre felt that he fulfilled his obligaon in that area and decided to re-sign from his posion at Archbishop Wood to return to pastoral work, which had been his original plan. So, in 1990 he was assigned to St. John’s in Lower Makefield as an associate. This gave him the opportunity to refamiliarize himself with the parochial environment. Again, as in his first assignment, he was there for only 2 years before he was named pastor of St. Patrick’s in June, 1992. 236
