These new arrangements have seen K-3 and 4-6 playing in separate areas and having an oval each to themselves. It has been very pleasing to see how well the students have adjusted to these changes and the positive impact being observed by teachers in the playground. Well done everyone and keep up the fabulous effort. Safety at School A timely reminder to everyone using the back entrance that only the pedestrian footpath should be used. We have recently had parents and students using the gravel vehicle entrance near the skip bins. This is only for trucks and almost resulted in a near miss last week. Please take the extra time to ensure that everyone enters and exits the school safely. Student Electives This week, Stage 3 have begun their Art, STEM and PE electives. It has been great to see how enthusiastic the students are to try out these new programs. A huge thankyou to Ms Sawyer for her vision of this exciting program and all of the teachers from across the school who have worked so hard to get this ready in such a short period of time. Message from the Ministers

On Monday the 11th of February, 2019 representatives from our school Parliament were invited to attend a special morning tea with Kate Washington and Liesl Tesch MP, Gold Medallist and Paralympian. The event was held at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club Auditorium. Liesl talked to us about her story and the challenges she had to face. It was inspirational for everyone at the event. We were presented with certificates by Kate Washington. When we left we had more knowledge of leadership. When we got back to school we spoke to Ms Sawyer about meeting our local Member and a gold medallist who had achieved so much.

Tiarne Robinson Prime Minister

Stage 3 Electives Education

This term Stage 3 will be participating in elective studies every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon. We had to choose one elective from STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), one from CAPA (Creative Arts) and one sport option (of course – everyone loves sport!).

On these afternoons, instead of our normal lessons with our classroom teachers, we will go off to our elective studies with a different nominated teacher.

Term 1 Week 4 23rd February 2019

We are all really looking forward to getting out of the classroom having some fun and learning some new skills.

Logan Miller Deputy Prime Minister PBL Focus As we begin a new school year, it is the perfect time to set new goals and put plans into action! Being ready to learn doesn’t mean just turning up to class. It means you need to be prepared! You need to be organised at home and school. A few tips could be: packing your bag for school the night before, not forgetting your homework, paying attention in class by staying on task and focused, making sure you have breakfast before school, arriving to school on time and getting involved in class conversations and discussions. Let’s all try to be more organised and ready to learn in 2019!!

Izak Tetevano Minister for PBL Stage 3 (5BW) Stage 3 have had a very busy start to Term 1. We have been busy getting organised in our new classrooms, meeting our new class mates and getting to know our new teachers. 5BW have started to read the book, ‘Wonder’ by R. J. Palacio during literacy lessons and the main character Auggie is starting school for the first time in Year 5. We have also started looking into marvellous micro-organisms in Science and yesterday got to explore all different types of bread. We are looking forward to starting Electives this week and are very thankful for all the hard work our teachers are putting in so that these are fun and productive. Written by Georgia, Charlotte & Jake (5BW). Kindergarten A very big and warm welcome to our new and returning Kindergarten families. The students have had a fun first few weeks of primary school discovering their new environment and making new friends. Students have enjoyed exploring their new classrooms, sport lessons, borrowing books in the library, and playing instruments in the music room. We are looking forward to spending more time enjoying our new Kindergarten softfall area!

Term 1 Week 4 23rd February 2019

Kindergarten teachers would like to say a big thank you to our Year 3 buddies for helping the kindergarten students with their transition into big school.

Gardening Club – One Little Seed Last year, one of our students enjoyed eating a watermelon for their crunch and sip. They placed their scraps (pips and all) into their class compost caddy. The caddy was taken to Gardening Club, where the scraps were turned into garden soil through composting. The soil was put into one of the gardens. A while later, the seed germinated, and grew into a vine. After the holidays, Mr Debrincat noticed something BIG was growing on the vine! A beautiful, juicy watermelon had grown. When it was ready, our helpers in the canteen sliced it up for us to enjoy. YUM!

Stage 2

We have had a wonderful start to the year and have settled very well into new classroom and school routines. Thank you to all our families who have covered and returned books – we are definitely ready to learn!

Year 4 have started their Maths Pathway journey and are loving the new mode of learning. We have started our online modules and have been working on setting out our work effectively in our books. The children are focused on their individual learning tasks and are becoming more efficient with using the program.

Term 1 Week 4 23rd February 2019

We are having a great time with our cooperative learning structures, where we get to speak to our peers on a wide range of topics. Communicating about our work and sharing ideas are a great way to learn – we can also learn about each other!

Exciting News!!! Stage 2 will be attending the Great Aussie Bush Camp this year. Camp will take place during Term 3. Information regarding the camp will be coming out to you soon – keep your eyes peeled!

We are looking forward to meeting you all at our Parents as Partners night. See you then!
