“Maritime makes you wish your life were a Zach Braff movie, just so you could put their songs on the soundtrack.” - Spin

“Meet your new favourite Chicago art-pop band.”- Mojo

THE NARRATORAll That To The WallDIG041 CD, DIGITAL

“The Narrator sound better on record with less to prove, making imperfect pop out of their rough edges, and turning fuck-ups into hymns.” - Pitchfork [7.2]

Youth City Fire EP DIG014 CD, DIGITAL

MAKE BELIEVES/T EPDIG021 CD, DIGITAL

“Tim Kinsella leads his own stumbling and stuttering charge with inspired howls on topics de jour with electricity and clarity that hasn’t sounded this focused since the controlled chaos of his earlier offerings.” - CMJ

CHIN UP CHIN UPThis Harness Can’t Ride AnythingDIG040 LP ONLY

Recorded by Brian Deck

“It’s both so clever and so very charming.” - Mojo

“It’s nothing short of their highest point to date.” - Alternative Press

LOW SKIESAll The Love I Could FindDIG033 CD, DIGITAL

Featuring members of Judson Claiborne

“The sunstroked stumble of Crazy Horse (c.f. “Cortez the Killer”) and the Dirty Three’s desert-dragging dirges. And standing in for Neil’s signature one-note leads and Warren Ellis’ weeping violin is an equally distressing instrument: Salveter’s distinctive vocal.”- Pitchfork [8.1]

MARITIMEWe, the VehiclesDIG034 CD, DIGITAL

“What a terrific surprise, then, that We, the Vehicles not only exceeds its predecessor, but serves as a corrective to every one of its deficiencies... We, the Vehicles is post-emo indie-pop at its finest.” - Pitchfork [7.8]

BOUND STEMSThe Family AfloatDIG044 LP, CD, DIGITAL

Ltd Ed / 180gm / Includes MP3s

“A warm, ultimately mild-mannered band can strike with naked courage.” - The A.V. Club [A]

“Bound Stems have the rarefied ability to make that mess sound gorgeous.” - Pitchfork [7.6]

THE SUBJECTSwith the ease grace precision and cleverness of human beings PA008 CD, DIGITAL

Featuring members of Caveman

“Two recent high school grads bash out joyously hormonal power pop behind a frontman who was recently their teacher. Like School of Rock with more Kinks albums on the syllabus.” - SPIN

RUSSIAN CIRCLESEnterDIG035 CD, DIGITAL

On Tour Now w/Coheed & Cambria

“A record over which the post-rock pioneers will drool, but fans of more traditional heavy rock bands will also find their appetites whetted by a selection of truly phenomenal riffs...fret-shredding monster chord sequence(s) to rival anything today’s metal royalty can muster.” - Drowned In Sound

MANNEQUIN MENFresh RotDIG043 CD, DIGITAL

“As churning guitars generate jagged melodies, singer Kevin Richard plays the sleazy punk poet, hiding his sensitive side behind a sneering facade... Describing the shady practices of bad boys and girls, ‘Private School’ and ‘Mattress’ are smart, catchy, albeit tattered, pop tunes.” - Spin

BOUND STEMSAppreciation NightDIG037 CD, DIGITAL

“These Chicago indie rockers build on Modest Mouse’s quirky poppiness with low-fi samples and a bouncy groove of their own.” - Rolling Stone

“A woozy triumph.” - Entertainment Weekly

Also available: The Logic of Building the Body Plan DIG032 CD, DIGITAL

MANNEQUIN MENLose Your Illusion, TOODIG052 LP, DIGITAL

Ltd Ed / Includes MP3s

“This Chicago quartet’s third album is all about self-flagellation and lowered expectations. Singer Kevin Richard has the Westerberg rap -- and rasp -- down cold and the rousing Pagans cover is inspired music to spill Schlitz to.” - Spin [7/10]

SYBRISS/TDIG029 CD, DIGITAL

“With a percussive throb and fluid, concise guitar lead that makes one picture Karen O doing judo warm-ups with a mic stand... made magnetic by Mullenhour’s authoritative vocal turn, blend of raw emotion and melodic control, and by the shimmering, stormy shoegaze it gradually melts into.”-Pitchfork [8.0]

ALOKEOne Day We Will Kill YouPA006 CD, DIGITAL

Featuring members of Grouplove

ALOKE is a band of such visceral intensity that it is only natural that their debut album was recorded live, in front of an audience and straight to tape. The songs are propulsive and rhythmic -- moving between dense punk rock energy and melodic refrains.

Since the release of 2011’s award winning debut, No Time for Dreaming, Charles Bradley has transformed from a rising star in the Daptone galaxy into a bona-fide headliner, now affectionately known across the globe as "The Screaming Eagle of Soul." The raw emotion and soulfulness of Bradley's voice lifts him up among the greats of the golden age of Soul - Otis, JB, Wilson Pickett, and Darrell Banks. Anyone who has had the privilege of hearing him sing has experienced how Bradley can captivate an entire audience with a simple "Ooooo..." Bradley and writer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Thomas “TNT” Brenneck returned to Dunham studios and recorded the most exciting Daptone release to date, Victim of Love. On this album, Bradley moves past his "Heartaches and Pain" to the great promise of hope and love. Though quite at home among the music that has affirmed Daptone as the world’s #1 authority on Soul Music, Victim of Love proves to be a genre-bending masterpiece, picking up where the early 70’s Temptations left off and edging boldly forward into psychedelic soul exploration.

The story of Bonobo is one that's become uncommon in contemporary music. There was no sudden, viral internet sensation, no one-off big hit, no abrupt, accidental alignment with the zeitgeist. Instead, over the course of four albums, myriad tours, singles, remixes and production work for other artists, he quietly but very definitely became one of the most important artists in electronic music. The hard work paid off, and culminated in 2010's 'Black Sands;' a masterful album that married Green's inimitable melodic genius and musicianship to bleeding edge electronics, bass and infectious drums.

After a year plus of touring the hypnotic, extended live versions of Black Sands, he finally found time last year to embed himself in his New York studio and write his fifth studio album. Now, in 2013, he stands ready to take things up yet another notch. 'The North Borders' is a long stride forward - both a natural evolution and a continuation of the electronic palette of Black Sands. Thematic, resonant, addictive and perfectly formed, it's a thrillingly coherent statement piece. It's also an album that shows just how far electronic music has come. Its richness of texture, emotive force and all round depth are facets found more often within, dare we say it, classical music. If there's a renaissance taking place within this scene, Simon Green could make a strong claim to being one of its key driving forces.

As with previous albums, The North Borders features a careful balance between vocal tracks and instrumentals, ensuring that the productions themselves get room to breathe and shine. When Green discovered that he and Erykah Badu shared a mutual appreciation for each other’s work, he leapt at the chance to collaborate. The resultant ‘Saphire’ is one of the album’s triumphs, marrying Badu's vocal masterclass to a yearning, jazz-inflected melody and a brilliant two step glitch.

Bonobo has a long history of unearthing new talent, Black Sands having launched the solo career of guest vocalist Andreya Triania. The North Borders sees him do so once again. The startling, ethereal vocals of new collaborator Szjerdine are sprinkled across the album, and Green has yet again found the perfect voice to express where he's at. ‘Transits’ sees her vocal weave around a garage beat that’s somehow fragile and purposeful all at once, a gradually emerging hook rising from the depths of the song.

‘Emkay’ is a stunning example of the album’s marriage of addictive swing to rise-and-swell melody that never fails to move the listener. Opening single ‘Cirrus’ sees a clockwork-precise rhythm drive a chiming, insistent melody that builds to one of the record’s great emotional climaxes. This is where Green excels; he knows how to invest electronic music with immense feeling.

The North Borders – like all great records - is an album that demands to be listened to as such; a body of work with its own internal logic, themes and narrative arc. Bonobo’s abilities are at an all time high, and The North Borders everything his growing army of fans will have hoped for - a sheer delight.

HEM’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ALBUMDEPARTURE AND FAREWELL SET FOR RELEASE APRIL 2nd ON WAVELAND RECORDS

“achingly gorgeous…” - NPR

The lodgepole pine doesn’t yield its seed willingly. Seasons can come and go and years—even decades—can pass, and the seeds remain locked in the cones. There is only one catalyst for this unusual tree to reproduce: fire. As flames rise to the tree’s crown, the cones open, bringing forth the seeds of new life. It’s a striking image, one that formed the basis of “The Jack Pine,” a song that stands as the centerpiece of Hem’s extravagantly bittersweet five-years-in-the-making album, Departure and Farewell. It’s also a perfect summation of this unusual chapter in the band’s life, which started as a breakup before becoming a rebirth—a point lost on none of the members.

The long awaited new album from Hem, Departure and Farewell, will be released April 2nd on Waveland Records. “Making music that’s categorically neither country nor folk but a flexible citi-fied mix of the two, its songs send one branch toward the hymnal, another into droning soft rock, and a third toward the kind of film music that evokes prairie sunsets…Beautiful,” writes The New York Times of the band’s process. To support the new release, the band will embark on a nationwide tour (to be announced soon). See below for full track listing.

Hem is Sally Ellyson (vocals), Dan Messé (piano and glockenspiel), Gary Maurer (guitar, mandolin), and Steve Curtis (guitar, mandolin, back-up vocals). Departure and Farewell was co-produced by Maurer and Messé and recorded at Sear Sound. Of the new release, Messé notes, “Hem has always been about endings in one way or another (we were named after the ending of a dress, after all), but never more so than here in these songs.” Ellyson furthers, “This album is about loss, about the fear of loss and about the trajectory of life…it was one of the more emotionally resonating albums to record.”

Formed in 1999, Hem self-released their debut Rabbit Songs in 2002 to critical acclaim, establishing themselves as one of the most promising bands to emerge from Brooklyn. Since then, they’ve released four full-length albums, including the music for the 2009 Public Theatre production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, for which they received a nomination for Outstanding Music in a Play for the 2009/2010 Drama Desk Awards.

Kinski “Cosy Moments”

CD / LP / Digital Download Selling Points:

+ First album on Kill Rock Stars + Extensive US tour in 2013

+ Last album released in 2007 on Sub Pop BIO: The album is filled with the glistening, graceful chords and heavy proto-punk rhythms that have become Kinski’s hallmarks over the last 14 years of playing music together. Cosy Moments is the result of Martin, the band’s songwriter, spending the last few years figuring out where to go next musically. “We wanted to make something poppier and more direct,” Martin said. To build the complex layers of sound on the album, Martin changed up the way he wrote the songs, leaving behind the pedals, amps and tones he would play around with while drafting songs and instead sticking to more traditional songwriting techniques. The result of his efforts are songs crafted on a solid framework, with each song reaching higher and higher through complex layers of crisp guitar arpeggios, pounding percussion and fleeting ethereal moments that are a far cry from Kinski’s earlier fuzzed out psych-metal work. The addition of a pop element is not the only evolution of the band’s sound. This album also features vocals, which is a dramatic shift for a band that is known primarily as an instrumental group. Martin wrote for three years before having enough material to record an album and heading back into the studio with producer Randall Dunn, who also recorded their last three records. Cosy Moments, the group’s sixth full length, is filled with Kinski’s dense, intricate and occasionally nearly deafening noise, a musical style that is almost completely contradictory to their album title. But even the band isn’t quite sure why they named the album Cosy Moments -- a reference to a P.G. Wodehouse book "Psmith, Journalist" about a guy who is an editor of a leftist magazine called Cosy Moments. “I don't know,” Martin said, “It just seemed to fit. The history of this record was anything but cozy. But we came back together and are playing as well as we ever have.” www.killrockstars.com

A PRODUCTION OF RECORDING GROUP

Charles Walker & The Dynamites having cast their lot in 2008 with the head-spinning “Kaboom!” and in 2010 with the powerful “Burn It Down,” now embark on Round 3 of their unfolding story with an ambitious and comprehensive set of breathtaking soul/ R&B.

Since their last release, Charles Walker & The Dynamites have spent two years in a furor of worldwide touring. Four tours of Europe, three of Australia, and virtually every weekend stateside spent “gettin’ up in the morning and making the world a funkier place,” to quote their nightly show-opening monologue mantra, account for their soul-sending whereabouts since the release of “Burn It Down.” Along the way, through the hard forge of touring and a healthy evolution, The Dynamites has grown from a neck-jerking, backbone-slipping high octane funk/soul freight train to a well-rounded soul machine playing to its front man’s greatest strengths. (with plenty of high octane backbone-slipping still in there, don’t worry)

Also during that time, resulting from many seemingly destiny-laden chance meetings with Bettye LaVette on the festival circuit, Charles reconnected with his fellow soul music veteran, whose story had in many ways continued to unfold parallel to his. Now, both come together in this new century, for the first time on a recording, to display their incredible, ageless talents and powerful facilities as true soul music veterans in top form.

Charles Walker continues his age-defying prowess, at the top of his powers. The Dynamites continue their relentless commitment to the greatest, most positive and celebratory musical art form in America. And together, they continue to passionately deliver the word here and abroad. SO MUCH MORE TO DO

Project DescriptionBorn from an impromptu jam at a Halloween party in 2009, Skating Polly is a punk/rock/pop duo made up of stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse. On their forthcoming sophomore album Lost Wonderfuls (produced by Exene Cervenka and mixed by Flaming Lips drummer Kliph Scurlock), the Oklahoma City-based

band reveals itself as a wildly vital force in the resurrection and reinvention of classic punk rock.

AlongAlong with earning the adoration of Cervenka (whom they befriended after attending one of the X singer’s 2010 solo shows and playing their demos on a cell phone), Skating Polly has found fans in Rosanne Cash and Sean Lennon, taken the stage with punk legends like Mike Watt, and opened up for such indie heavy-hitters as Deer-

hoof and Band of Horses.

With aspirations of “bringing back riot grrrl,” both Mayo and Bighorse are intent on ignoring what’s fashionable and staying true to their passion for challenging music with long-lasting appeal. “The musicians we’re most in-spired by are the ones who keep on going and going, who devote their entire lives to coming up with new and different stuff,” says Mayo. “A lot of times at our shows people will come up to us and tell us, ‘Keep on doing what you’re doing, don’t ever stop’ and we’re just like, ‘Yeah—we weren’t planning on ever stopping.”

"Coming from the generation of bookish Manchester bands striving to throw off another indie's boorish image, Dutch Uncles look set to graduate at the top of the class." 8/10 NME

“Sounds like the jackpot pings of a Hot Chip-themed pinball machine played by a champion" Pitchfork

Isn’t it great to see a young band growing the old fashioned way? Three albums into their career, Manchester’s Dutch Uncles, a group who pitched their tents firmly in pop’s leftfield with their eponymous first album before releasing Memphis Industries debut Cadenza in 2011, have made another huge step forward with their forthcoming album Out Of Touch In The Wild. There’s been no great reinvention, just great progress: this is a refined version of Dutch Uncles doing what they do best: making labyrinthine pop of Escher-like complexity and crystal clarity.

The band’s underlying influences remain but this time around see’s Kate Bush, Igor Stravinsky, Japan, Prince and Neu! all intriguingly thrown into the mix. Out Of Touch In The Wild is the sound of the Dutch Uncles hitting their stride confidently, striking out on their own in fascinating new directions and it lays down an early, compelling gauntlet for 2013.

7” (white vinyl) - MI0262S - 5060146093958 – List Price $7.99

Skyscraper is the new single from London based duo Amelia Rivas and Christian Pinchbeck aka Elephant. The two met in the early hours of a house party back in May 2010, a fateful encounter that led to many a long night writing and recording songs in Christian’s South London bedsit. They soon came to the attention of Memphis Industries in the Autumn of 2010, with whom they subsequently released a pair of acclaimed 7” singles, Ants and Allured, with The Guardian declaring “they're a Meg'n'Jack reared on breathy Brill Building pop and haunting atmospherics”. The pair set to work on their debut EP and the result, titled Assembly, released in November 2011 was a four track wonder that expanded and developed the quiet beauty evidenced on their previous releases. Surely 2012 would be theirs... But all was not well with Elephant – Amelia and Christian, had parted ways in a Fleetwood Mac style bout of acrimony. Then Christian broke his wrist (which may or may not be related to the aforementioned acrimony) rendering him unable to play. It looked unlikely that they would ever write together again. Sometimes, though, you have to realize when you’ve got something good. After a tempestuous year, where they just about managed to play a show at Primavera’s opening party without injury - or worse - a gradual rapprochement took place. September finally saw them starting to write together again and playing shows (including an appearance at Eurosonic and supports with Matthew E White), and lo and behold, an album shaped batch of songs finally started to take shape Sumptuous new track Skyscraper sees Amelia’s vocals swooning and swooping over a backdrop that twists familiar fifties Doo-wop stylings into something new and alluring whilst the B side Spies is a sweet and sparse repost. It’s a strong, confident marker that Elephant’s debut album will be worth braving broken hearts and broken bones for. This April, Strut reissues one of the early releases from its catalogue in a brand new Deluxe Edition. Music For Dancefloors is a varied journey through the archives of thefabled and historic KPM Music Library.

The phenomenon of the music library is unique, involving brilliant but anonymous composers and musicians creating short pieces of music to be made available for background use in film, television, and radio. The music wasn’t intended to be enjoyed in a home listening context, and in fact wasn’t available for commercial release at all, but the sheer quality of the playing and compositions resulted in the music finding an enthusiastic audience. Original promotional-only vinyl releases from KPM and other libraries of the 1960s and 70s (generally from print run of only 1,000 copies each) can now exchange hands for a small fortune.

During its heyday, many pieces recorded through KPM became perennial UK TV themes – long-running programs like “Grandstand,” “Mastermind” and “ITV News AtTen.” Tellingly, the KPM boss during this period, Robin Phillips, made a point of setting the bar high, bringing in the UK’s most talented young composers, arrangers and session players to the studios to ensure the highest quality music.

The quality has justifiably stood the test of time. In recent years, DJs and collectors have coveted volumes of the anonymous green label KPM LPs as a source for hard-to-find grooves and breaks, and KPM has become a well-mined source for hip-hop producers and music connoisseurs – Jay-Z, DOOM, Madlib and Guilty Simpson, Dangermouse and Action Bronson are among the many who have plundered KPM grooves. A KPM piece (Kieth Mansfield’s “Funky Fanfare”) even graces the opening of Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill.

Compiled by ex-Jazz Cafe booker and DJ Adrian Gibson and Strut’s Quinton Scott‚ Music For Dancefloors was originally created as a series of albums in the early 2000s dedicated to mining the archives of the UK’s foremost music libraries. Volumes on Chappell music and Bosworth would follow in 2001 and 2002. This first installment mines the KPM reels for some of the most in-demand, funkiest and quirkiest pieces from the library. Some have become classics in their own right: Alan Parker’s ”That’s What Friends Are For” featuring Blue Mink’s Madeline Bell on vocals, Alan Hawkshaw’s stomping hammond groove “Senior Thump” (a precursor to his work as The Mohawks), and Keith Mansfield’s “Crash Course,” a driving jazz anthem. Elsewhere, the tracklist is peppered with oddities like Klaus Weiss’ incidental downtempo mood “Morning 1 / Morning 2” and Nascimbene’s “Witchdoctor,” a short tribal field recording. This new edition features an exclusive bonus disc, which makes available for the first time the debut gig by the KPM All-Stars, bringing together many of KPM’s greatestcomposers for a unique night at London’s Jazz Cafe on 27th April 2000. A big band comprising original and contemporary KPM library musicians and writers, including Alan Hawkshaw, Keith Mansfield and James Clarke, perform the library’s best-loved TV themes and cult dancefloor classics for the first time anywhere since the original sessions. Within the set, Alan Hawkshaw plays the live debut of tracks from his album The Champ by The Mohawks including the fabled title track, as well as “Senior Thump’ and “Landscape.”

Music For Dancefloors: The KPM Music Library (Deluxe version) is released in three formats: 2CD (original studio recordings and live concert), 2LP featuring the original studio recordings and 2CD insert of the full CD content, and digital (original studio recordings and live concert). The album features the original sleeve notes by Charles Waring (Mojo magazine) alongside extra photos and memorabilia.

THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE

And This Is Our Music

Originally released in 2003 now reissued on “a records” Anton Newcombe’s own record label This 2 LP set released on 180 g white vinyl with red & blue splatters The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. With The Dandy Warhols, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is one of the subjects of the documentary DIG!, winner of the 2004 Grand Jury Prize Documentary at Sundance. DIG! is also a part of the Permanent Collection of the NY Museum of Modern Art. Since the release of DIG!, the band has achieved increasing critical acclaim and recognition, and has performed at Cochella and Lollapalooza in 2005 with special mentions from the NY Times and Washington Post. They have also toured the UK, Japan, Australia, as well as Continental Europe..

”Klaus Dinger + Japandorf“ is the last album production, which Klaus Dinger (1946-2008) was a pivotal part of. According to the manifest like character of his song CHA CHA 2000 (1978), Klaus was even in the beginning of 2000 still after a special kind of musical collaboration to attain a unique sound, which would suit the upcoming millennium. For his new project, he opened his studio in 2000 to various fine artists and musicians for spontaneous recording-sessions. Through an artist friend Nakao, Klaus got introduced to Japanese musicians and artists living in Düsseldorf, especially the sessions together with them had a dense and exciting atmosphere. ”Nakao opened the door to Japandorf“ Klaus said. From these sessions the new project, ”Japandorf“ emerged.

”Klaus Dinger + Japandorf“ is a uniquely magical, optimistic, refreshing and beautiful album. Definitely another Klaus Dinger manifest.

Flowers For My Father marks Sadistik's first solo album since his 2008 debut, The Balancing Act, and charts his growth in spades. Evolving his style to a more synthesized rendition of a signature cinematic Seattle sound, the new album displays a distinct combination of Sadistik's complex, vulnerable writing with textured, ambient production handled by the likes of Blue Sky Black Death and Kno of CunninLynguists. Featured guest performances from indie hip hop heroes such as Cage, Deacon The Villain, Astronautalis & more result in his most developed, mature and revealing project to date.

Shortly after the release of The Balancing Act, Sadistik's father tragically passed. Never one to shy away from heavy topics or keep his personal life personal, Sadistik wrote this album for his late father, choosing to treat each song as an update of what has happened in his life since. This is reflected in writing which delves into depression, romance, heartbreak, optimism and the struggle to make sense of the ever-shifting pieces in the world around him.

HOOKWORMS ‘PEARL MYSTICS’

TRACKS: 1 Away / Towards 8:49, 2 Form And Function 5:58, 3 i 2:44, 4 In Our Time 4:50, 5 Since We Had Changed 7:32, 6 Preservation 5:04, 7 ii 1:30, 8 What We Talk About4:01, 9 iii 3:51

For a while now Leeds five-piece Hookworms have been terrorising headlining bands across northern England and beyond, not through histrionics or gimmick, but through sheer sonic velocity and emotive intent. Often bracketed among the latest wave of psychedelic rock currently appearing in pockets around the UK (as support slots with Wooden Shjips, Sun Araw and Peaking Lights attest), this tag is somewhat of a misnomer for a band whose use of repetition and reverb is not to open the third dimension or for some sort of flower-power escapism. The record was recorded and produced in MJ’s own Suburban Studios – where he’s worked on records for Mazes, Eagulls and Spectrals among others. Certainly the production is lush, erring on the lo-fi side but contrasting that with a sense that every element has been pored over and deeply considered. Indeed, the most impressive thing about Hookworms is that, through this torrent of emotion, through their wild motorik and their thick slabs of noise that threaten to spill over, there’s always the sense that they’re in control of it all, so committed are they to this catharsis that they refuse to throw any of it to chance.

LOWER PLENTY ‘HARD RUBBISH’

TRACKS: 1. Work In The Morning 2. Strange Beast 3. Dirty Flowers 4. Nullarbor 5. Grass 6. Friends Wait 7. How Low Can A Punk Get 8. White Walls 9. Close Enough

Fire Records delve further in to the Australian underground with the signing of Melbourne-based four-piece Lower Plenty. Their transfixing LP 'Hard Rubbish' was voted Album of the Year 2012 on Aussie indie bible Mess + Noise and is due for a worldwide release on 25 March. Raw and delicate, 'Hard Rubbish' was recorded on eight-track reel-to-reel tape, often in just a single take. Their folk-tinged indie rock is flecked with experimentation whilst retaining a firm hold on some fantastically memorable melodies. With a non-traditional set-up of two guitars, drums and processed percussion with four vocals - Lower Plenty are set to take us on a very exciting ride.

Ltd to 1000 units. A beloved & legendary American singer songwriter is on our next limited 7-inch release. Extremely proud,he is making a much anticipated foray back into the music world after the dark event of 2008: MARK MULCAHY put everything on hold to look after his children following the tragic death of his wife.‘ Low Birthweight Child ‘ & ‘The Cottage That We Rented Had a Name ‘ are two gems that will delight the many fans. The breathy, acrobatic, sensual voice remains playfully intact, but the stereo speakers also glow with the warmth of the piano sound that is a perfect embrace. The B-Side ‘Cottage That We Rented Had a Name‘ , is woozy, sublime & Soulful reminiscent of 70s analogue sound, parallel to the world of LIAM HAYES (aka PLUSH). ‘Low Birthweight Child ‘ is MULCAHY in a commanding vocal presence in a fine tempo strut. Another vocal delivery that reminds us why it is much-lauded by the likes of THOM YORKE (Radiohead) ,MICHAEL STIPE (R.E.M), J MASCIS (Dinosaur Jnr) & author NICK HORNBY, to name a few. festival have recently invited Mark to perform there.

Combining elements of electronica, post-rock and alternative rock with subtle progressive undertones, UK band Midas Fall have spent three years carving a distinctive and captivating sound, creating taut, shimmering soundscapes led by the hauntingly melancholic vocals of Elizabeth Heaton. Their second album, Wilderness, sees the band maturing their sound beautifully, delivering on the promise referenced in their previous reviews. Tender balladry (Borders, Tiny Pieces Will Always Remain) or driving guitar crescendos (BPD, Carnival Song), Midas Fall demonstrate not only their powerful songcraft and musicianship, but also their outstanding production skills – the album was self-recorded, mixed and mastered from home on a minimal budget but sounds like the product of professional recording studio.

TRACKS: 01. The Godforsaken Voyage 02. Dusty Fields 03. Coming Home 04. The Masters Whip 05. Through The Morning, Through The Night 06. Names 07. Sunday Morning, Coming Down 08. Emotional Wreck 09. The Wrong Side 10. Bottom Of The World

For nearly 30 years, Phil ‘Swill’ Odgers has been one half of the legendary joint vocal strike force of The Men They Couldn’t Hang. Audiences around the world from Cairo to Reykjavik, Brisbane to Vancouver and Berlin to London have submitted to his effervescent and heartfelt vocal style in stadium, theatre, hall and after hours lock in. Now, leading a cast as varied as in any vintage caper movie, he steps out from under the spiky shell of TMTCH and emerges with a classic slice of folk country pop – The Godforsaken Voyage.

TRACKS: 1. Prissy Missy; 2. She’s a Kukamunga; 3. Howlin’ For My Woman; 4. Just My Kind; 5. Yosemite Sam; 6. Less Bone. . . More Meat! 7. The Dilly Bop. 8. Watch Your Mouth; 9. Betti Moretti; 10. The Monkey Beat; 11. I Got a Baby; 12. Big Chief; 13. Trubble Trubble; 14. It’s All Your Fault.

This is London’s greatest and most sensational Rhythm’n’Blues-Punk band. And this is a band that truly represents London, being a mongrel mix of Caribbean, France, Japan,Wales and the newly-arrived sax man from Mexico. (I know that adds up to five but that’s irrelevant!) With a repertoire influenced by many of the great songs of the ’50s and ’60s made to sound fresh and new to modern ears, you won’t be able to help but move your feet when the Cumberland Three are blasting out of your speakers. The King howls like Screaming Jay Hawkins with Bo Diddley chasing his coat-tail whilst Andre Williams tries to offer up some of his bacon fat, and the Trashman do the Surfin' Bird behind him. Equal parts rock and soul, with a dash of funk and a healthy dose of blues and soul and a good bit of punk rock attitude, whether you’re at a club show or in your living room you won’t be able to help yourself from shaking and shimmying. You can bet your bacon that they're gonna be cookin’ up a party at your house too!

SPACEMEN 3 ‘THE PERFECT PRESCRIPTION’ 180g

TRACKS: 1. Take Me To The Other Side 2 Walkin' With Jesus 3 Ode To Street Hassle 4 Ecstasy Symphony 5 Feel So Good 6 Things'll Never Be The Same 7 Come Down Easy 8 Call The Doctor 9 Soul 4 10 That’s Just Fine

180 gram Baby Blue vinyl. Spacemen 3's second album is a remarkable departure from the band's 1986 debut, SOUND OF CONFUSION. Reduced to a trio (guitarists / keyboardists Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, Jason "Spaceman" Pierce, and bassist Pete Bassman) following the departure of the first album's drummer, Spacemen 3 makes an asset out of the newfound lack of percussion, giving THE PERFECT PRESCRIPTION a considerably less rock-oriented sound with much more open space in its varied, subtle arrangements.

TRACKS: 1 Loosing Touch With Your Mind 2 2.35, 3 Little Doll, 4 MaryAnne, 5 Roller coaster, 6 Hey Man, 7 OD Catastophe.

180 gram White vinyl. Spacemen 3’s debut album "Sound Of Confusion", released in 1986, was a blistering affair - establishing their love of the two-chord song and also expressing their admiration for the likes of MC5, The 13th Floor Elevators and The Stooges. Sound of Confusion was 7 tracks of overdriven assault, with a strange bleakness and despair creeping through the hypnotic sprawl. R Hunter Gibson would later say: "It boosts the value of unlit rooms, unpaid debts and unfeigned terror and it would rather tackle the gradients than settle for level best. New digipack.

TRACKS: 1 Mary-Anne, 2 Come Together, 3 Things'll Never Be the Same, 4 Take Me to the Other Side, 5 Rollercoaster, 6 Starship, 7 Walkin' with Jesus

180 gram Orange Vinyl. Recorded in Amsterdam in 1988, the live Performance documents a set from the Perfect Prescription tour; the emphasis here is on the group's loud, noisy origins -- only the closing "Feel So Good" hints at the more subdued atmospheres and textures which emerged as Spacemen 3's primary focus as they approached Playing With Fire. Among the highlights: "Take Me to the Other Side," "Walkin' With Jesus" and "Come Together." New digipack.

As powerful as the music itself, the instinct behind Dolor’s endeavors and his own persistence in barreling forth is finally beginning to coalesce. Highly championed by Lorn, though tending to retain his privacy and avoid interviews, he's recently inked a deal with UK-based label Technicolour.

Harrowingly gifted, Dolor’s persona as a musician has been on the rise of late thanks to a mass of self-released material, including 'Macabre', 'A Chapel for Velvet', and other innovative collaborations with Milwaukee’s adoptahighway, and Lorn. The road has worn on, long and arduous, but music lives in his bones, keeps him moving. He’s shared a nearly-manic stage presence with everyone from The Gaslamp Killer to Kidkanevil, and put out several now-immortal remixes for The Weeknd; racking up countless nods on Soundcloud alone. With a legion of influences, his seemingly endless range in style and creativity functions as an immediate conduit to a loyal listening base whose blood is still buzzing from the emotional pulse of his work.

His 'Misteria' EP debuts this Spring and is sure to stop us all cold.'

LETHERETTE 'D&T'

Welcome to the latest, fun-filled slice of velvet boogie from Wolverhampton duo Letherette. This fourth EP (heralding the debut album, scheduled for Spring) sees their sun bleached groove truly come into its own. D&T is as exuberant as it is stylish, infectious synth stabs and cut up vocals giving way to to full blown guitar shredding, all the better for its sheer daring.

The remix package comes correct with the mighty Clark taking the funk a tad more industrial, via an Italo-disco synth diversion. Austria's foremost innovator Dorian Concept adds a touch of class with rave-inspired keys and a euphoric, frenetic build. Men of the moment The Invisible add trademark melancholy and sheer, shimmering beauty.

Bonus b-side She Shines shows a gentle side to Letherette, Dilla-style drums and uplifting melodic stabs, locked to the uniquely radiant vocal talent of California duo Jed & Lucia. Once again proving why fans include Gilles Peterson, Benji B and Brackles, and with a growing reputation as a thrilling live act, Letherette are set to take another big leap forwards, in the form of D&T.
