The first generation American son of Palestinian and Filipino immigrants, Hanni El Khatib grew up in San Francisco raised on a molotov cocktail of skateboarding, punk rock, and 1950s and 60s classic Americana. Influenced by pioneers of early rock and R&B, the multi-instrumentalist and producer derives his unique sound from a menagerie of inspirations, including blues, soul, garage rock & doo-wop and performers as varied as Johnny Brunette, The Cramps, Sam Cooke and The Animals. Through the filter of his sinewy, dirty guitar and wry, whiskey-glazed voice, the result is modern nostalgia; gritty, contemporary rock n'roll that glares ahead while nodding over its shoulder at the past. Or in Hanni's own words “these songs were written for anyone who’s ever been shot or hit by a train. Knife fight music.” He has toured with Florence and the Machine and shared bills with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Growlers, amongst others and has become well known for his raw, visceral live shows. Hanni’s unique take on Funkadelic’s classic song “I Got A Thing, You Got A Thing, Everybody’s Got A Thing” has been selected as the campaign song for Nike’s “Just Do It” 2011 Global Ad Campaign.

“Top 11 Artists to Watch in 2011... Speaking of The Black Keys, Hanni El Khatib is the next garage-rock sensation on the verge.” - BOSTON GLOBE

“This is going to be one of the best records of 2011, guaranteed.” - LA RECORD

“Hard to believe that only one man can pack this much heat.” -NYLON

“Hanni El-Khatib is one of the most talented acts in L.A. right now, a one-man band, singing, songwriting, and producing all on his own and synthesizing 50s and 60s garage rock, soul, blues, and even a bit of folk... and brings with him the rawness of Phil Spector,

Jack White, the Shangri-Las, and the Black Keys.” - LA WEEKLY

"L.A.’s Hanni El Khatib proved there’s plenty of life left in the guitar/drums duo gimmick. Especially when it’s attacked with abun-dant garage punk swagger.” - BOSTON HERALD

“Hanni El Khatib's sound is a blistering barrage that you'd expect from a former San Francisco skate punk, recently transplanted to LA. Perhaps the closest comparison is to a "De Stijl"-era Jack White, if he had claimed lineage from the Stax catalog instead

of Son House.” - LA TIMES

In the long tradition of such holiday classics as

A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!,

and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Grammy Award-

winner Harry Connick, Jr. presents “The Happy Elf.”

Originally recorded for his 2003 best-selling holiday

album, Harry for the Holidays, this beloved song “The

Happy Elf,” has been the inspiration for an animated

Christmas television special, a full-length stage musical

and now a children’s picture book and its companion

CD, “Music From the Happy Elf.”

Comprised of thirteen tracks, “Music From the Happy

Elf” includes as its first track Harry’s narration of the

children’s story that centers on the lovable Eubie the

Elf, whose quest is to bring Christmas joy to an entire

town of naughty children in a gloomy little place called

Bluesville. The remaining twelve tracks feature the

Harry Connick, Jr. Trio performing instrumental versions

of the songs Connick penned for the stage musical of

the same name. Collected together for the first time in

one recording, “Music From the Happy Elf” offers a new

holiday classic for the entire family.

Celebrate the holidays with Harry Connick, Jr.’s “The Happy Elf” and start a new tradition!

Josh Rouse’s new album, his ninth overall, with the simple title, Josh Rouse and the Long Vacations, eludes to both his history and what is to come. All highlighted in a musical collection that also reects the current day, and the here and now for the artist. This is the world of Josh Rouse circa 2011: An American, born in the Midwest, who has over his life called many parts of the United States home, but an American now living a more cosmopolitan existence in modern Europe. Joining him for this eexcursion is two native Spaniards, Cayo Bellveser and Xema Fuertes, who accent these songs in an exquisite manner unlike other previous albums.

While the tone of this new album may be largely looser, and more upbeat, and distinct from the earnest seriousness of the artist’s early work, there is no denying that the same level of skill and care and attention has gone into its creation. As a result, Josh Rouse and the Long Vacations marks a new peak in achievement for the Artist.

Upon rst hearing, the listener will note with interest, that for example "Movin’ On" sets the tone for the whole album. the whole album. It is light, and airy, with a shuffling easy-going tempo, reminiscent of a summer breeze, accentuated by layers of smooth and melodious harmony vocals, while lyrically it echoes the themes of change and transformation, discussed above. In some ways the song can be seen as providing a bridge between some of the Artist’s older material, and those inspired by the present day.

The playfully loping tune "Lazy Days" looks to The Kinks "Sunny Afternoon" as a kindred spirit. Indeed, a nod to the past again. And the words relay a tale of a carefree life, which the Rouse draws from his time in 21st century Spain.

But it But it could be the third cut on the record, "Fine Fine", which really encapsulates the new and old worlds. Distinctive, it could not be mistaken for anyone but ‘Josh Rouse’, but at the same time, melodically it is the most ethnic. It is a song steeped in the musical movement known as Bossa Nova, made popular by the classic ‘60s’ recordings of Antonio Carlos Jobim, which featured the guitar work of Brazilian legend, Joao Gilberto.

And let us not forget to mention the opener "Diggin’ in the Sand". Musically reminiscent of the carefree folk of Simon and Garfunkel, in words and music, it predicts the tone and feel of the entire album, and the themes within. album, and the themes within. And in simple terms, to quote the Artist’s lyrics, it indeed references the “future and the past”.

Josh Rouse and the Long Vacations is a stellar collection of new recordings; a set of songs, thoughtful, melodious, and indeed enjoyable. An album that is likely to bring a summery feel to any time of the year. It is an album of great feeling and unity, encapsulating a full moon of ideas and ideals- that are fashioned, and continue to inhabit, the past, the present, and the future.

Artist: PlaidTitle: Scintilli

Overview

Plaid got their start with Warp as group (The Black Dog). Born out of the early Hip Hop scene, complemented by Acid House and Detroit Techno, they went on to write and perform with Björk, and release four Plaid albums with the label, including an audio visual DVD release, exploring 5.1 surround sound.

Their music involves emotive riffs that sit proudly over complex syncopated rhythms, the songs have melodic narratives and only rarely is the human voice used to spell these out. Synthetic layers are heaped on, producing euphoric highs at times and uncomfortable dark spaces at others.

In the years since their last release, Plaid's time has been spent composing for film and stage as well as touring new and classic works, including performances at Warp Records’ 20th anniversary, which lead to developing ideas for their latest album project, Scintilli.

Latin in origin, the word scintilli can be translated as, 'I am many sparks,’ a self-affirming mantra they claim to chant for two hours every morning. Plaid have calculated that each beat of the work has taken approximately one day to construct.

The CD will be available in a 'Muda na Mono' puzzle pack, containing two rings and a CD, which can be suspended from the interlinked rings. When aligned, the sphere created allows the track titles to be read. The packaging gives the CD an ornamental function, beyond its one use as a basic storage device. Scintilli is carved out of a cube on the sleeve's front cover design, then pulled out into a physically impossible Plaid logo on the back. The music will escape the grave this Autumn.

THESE GHOSTS HAVE BONESM I L E S Z U N I G AB I O : After 5 records with his platinum selling band Fastball Miles Zuniga is set to

release his first solo album "These Ghosts Have Bones" on his label 33 1/3 records.

During a hiatus from Fastball in 2009, singer/guitarist Miles Zuniga joined a

Sunday night residency at Austin, TX’s Saxon Pub with Austin TX stalwarts,The

Resentments. Different musicians floated in and out but most nights featured

Bruce Hughes (Bob Schneider, Jason Mraz) on bass and John Chipman (Band of

Heathens) behind the drum kit.

Miles Zuniga reflects, “This weekly gig proved to be a great incubator for the

album. I was able to try new songs out in front of a live audience. Songs don't

always get the reaction you imagine. Some go over great, some fall flat. I like to say

songs are like children, some go to Harvard, some go to prison.”

The album covers a wide range of styles from the opening pop opus "Marfa

Moonlight" to the achingly sad acoustic closer, "You Can't Break My Heart".

Enlisting Hughes and Chipman, Zuniga started recording his solo album in the

summer of 2010. Coming off of the end of a 10 year relationship, the writing and

recording proved therapeutic.

"Waking up in an empty house, it was nice to have somewhere to go. My basic

attitude was that I would get the record done with whoever was able to come in

that day. In the end it was mostly me, Bruce and John, but some other folks came

down to lend a hand."

That included rising star Kat Edmonson, Guitarists Kevin McKinney and Jeff

Plankenhorn (Courtyard Hounds) and Justin Sherburn (Okkervil River) on

keyboard. The album was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

Over the last two decades singer-songwriter Kate Campbell has toured the U.S. and abroad performing in a myriad of venues ranging from coffeehouses to clubs, festivals to art centers, colleges to churches. Die-hard fans prefer more intimate gatherings like the 100-seat Blue Rock Artist and Ranch Studio in Wimberley where Kate recorded Two Nights in Texas on April 8-9, 2010. Joining her on stage was a trio of sought-after and talented musicians: Sally Van Meter on dobro, Scott Ainslie on guitar, and Don Porterfield on bass. Together they are affectionately dubbed The Mother Faulkners, a reference to Kate’s literary songs that are often compared to the works of Mississippi authors Eudora Welty and William Faulkner. Kate and her band perform inspiring renditions of oft-requested tunes such as “New South,” “Crazy in Alabama,” “Jesus and Tomatoes,” and many more crowd favorites. Like the lovely bluebonnets that color and give beauty to the arid Texas landscape, Kate’s perfor-mances bring joy and moments of contemplation to audiences around the world who readily connect with her thought-provoking and humorous story-filled songs. This collection is a must have for fans who have long-awaited a recording that captures the energy and intimacy of a Kate Campbell concert.

Framed for a murder he did not commit, William Michael Dillon was sentenced to life in prison. While in prison, Dillon got a job helping to create a prison music room. He ordered instruments and equipment, and, with the help of fellow inmates, Dillon learned to play guitar. Primarily, though, he sang country and rock tunes with other players. He also started writing songs — on the backs of official notices, on money receipts, on loose sheets of paper he'd pick up from the library. "I've used everything, I think," he said. I've written a song on toilet paper." On November 18, 2008, after DNA evidence cleared Dillon of any wrongdoing, a judge dropped the charges against him and Willliam Dillon walked out of prison a free man, with hundreds of songs and a story to tell. Part Johnny Cash and part Tom Waits, Dillon will tell that story through a collection of songs entitled “Black Robes and Lawyers” released on his own Flying Free Productions record label. Dillon’s story has already caught the attention of the national media as he’s been featured on CNN, Good Morning America and the Today Show. Street Date: 09/27/11Okay, draw the curtains, shut the door, sit back, take a deep breath, relax, close your eyes, listen. Listen to a voice of simple beauty, a voice that can soar through the octaves or duck behind your back, which can crack with emotion or hit you hard with its understated delivery. Listen to Jono McCleery. You’ll feel like you should have already heard him.

At last, after a long and careful gestation, Jono McCleery is ready to release his first album with Counter Records, ‘There Is.’ Jamie Woon recently described him in The Observer as “a really fantastic… singer-songwriter,” but ‘There Is’ proves there’s much more to him than that. McCleery has taken his wonderful, timeless voice and the sheer skill of his songwriting and, with producer Fybe’s talent for electronics, and Matt Kelly's arrangements, made a startlingly beautiful and contemporary record.

There is so much to admire here. The Bryars-esque string introduction to “Tomorrow,” leading to a tune worthy of the Cinematic Orchestra. The tingle down the spine you get when McCleery’s voice first enters on “Fears.” The stately use of space which turns his version of Black’s “Wonderful Life” into something considerably darker and more conflicted than the original. The music box atmospherics of “Stand Proud” and the way they swell out into a fragile beauty. The gospel-tinged acappella harmonies of “Raise Me.” The devastating simplicity of closing track “She Moves.” It’s an album of so many subtle, classy delights it’s almost a shame to pick any one.

Jono McCleery completed his first album, 'Darkest Light,' in 2008. The record was self-produced and funded by fans, including folk-star Vashti Bunyan and UK's BBC radio DJs Tom Robinson and Fiona Talkington. Jono has toured with the likes of Gil Scott Heron, Jamie Woon, Bonobo, Fink, Jose Gonzales, Little Dragon and the Portico Quartet and cites his main influences as John Coltrane, Nick Drake, Bill Withers, Jeff Buckley, John Martyn and Nina Simone. With ‘There Is’ he has made a record of real soul and subtlety, one which fully showcases his wonderful voice but also works in its own right as a scintillating collection of music.

The Story UK is a familial duo from Somerset, England. Martin Welham was part of the influential psych-folk trio Forest. This is authentic psychedelic folk pop.

Joy Ride on Memory Lane is a really cool pastoral/acid-folk/electric acoustic album. The melody-rich songs of this breezily psychedelic album sound like a 21st-century version of Donovan or early Pink Floyd, with a touch of Moody Blues, Brinsley Schwarz, CSNY, and Espers.

They recorded all the songs as if they had an unrestricted band line-up with as many instruments and vocals they needed, regardless of their ability to reproduce them in a live session. They feel completely at home in their psych-tinged world.

When releasing their latest effort on Rainbow Quartz, they added “UK” to their band name to differentiate them from an early 90s American folk-rock duo of the same name.

Deleted Waveform Gatherings from Trondheim, Norway offer up their fourth release on Rainbow Quartz. The prolific Øyvind Holm has firmly packed 20 finely crafted songs into this single-disc CD. Conceptually, they consider this a double album, but they honed it down to the 20 that sounded the most cohesive together.

While their previous release Ghost, She Said captured a rough 60s garage feel, the new album Pretty Escape is a sophisticated, polished rock and pop album that filters Teenage Fan Club and the Byrds with a more muscular Chapterhouse/Stone Roses vibe.

“Time Passes Slowly”, the lead-off track, is like David Bowie conspiring with Crowded House, and “Brand New Funky Hairdo” evokes the Rain Parade.

While writing this new batch of songs, Øyvind had been listening to his old vinyl collection like Wings, Badfinger, Lennon, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Pretty Things and Big Star – as well as newer bands such as Blitzen Trapper, Wolf People, Darker My Love and Sleepy Sun. Whether these influences will be apparent will be up to the listener to decide.

Also available as digital download. + Will be touring – dates to be announced! Overview: l Forbidden Friends is the side-project of Hutch Harris from The Thermals. An almost-acoustic affair, the songs are at once modern and old-fashioned. The instrumentation is incredibly minimal - simple and effective. The lyrics are love stories sung from a hidden location - keep it underneath, in a place where only you and I know. Whoa-oh!

"Totally Low" is the second single from Forbidden Friends, recorded by Kendra Lynn at Jackpot! in Portland, Oregon. Harris performed all the basic instruments (drums, guitar, bass, voice) and percussion was supplied by his fellow Thermals Kathy Foster and Westin Glass. The title may sound negative, but in truth "Totally Low" is totally up. Not 'low' like 'down', but 'low' like 'on the down low' - keep it like a secret. Forbidden Friends is a singles-only band! You know, like Creation. No full length records are planned - keep asking, though.

NICK WATERHOUSEIs That Clear

Bio

QUOTES

San Francisco-based singer/guitarist Nick Waterhouse is a new-breed R&B fanatic, combining an uncanny historical sensibility with a far-sighted philosophical outlook. He joins the ranks of a growing cabale of similar acts and producers of recent times - Mark Ronson, the Daptone Crew et al – that are all moving forward into the past, yet all quite different. For Waterhouse, his muse is the over-modulated sound of vintage R&B, and his take on such a time-honored tradition evokes the back-alley thrill of New Orleans, Detroit and Memphis in their heyday.   He combines an astute attention to detail with an honest desire to match the emotional impact of the music that inspires him. “I’m striving for things that stimulate a response when I start to push at them,” he says. “Music is not old or new, it’s either good or bad. It either has soul – in the widest sense of the word – or it doesn’t.” Growing up in the southern California of the early 2000s, Waterhouse eschewed the painted-by-numbers metal, punk and hip-hop influences of his peers, and sought emotional authenticity in the vintage wax of James Brown, Roy Head, Little Willie John and the whole panoply of American music, where feel so often trumps technique. Several false starts led to a decision to release his own self-produced 45, the raunchy ‘Some Place’, the success of which prompted the creation of a live band, the Tarots, and an exciting new single, ‘Is That Clear’ is about to be released. Its fresh groove and visceral beat demonstrate that Nick Water-house is a force to be reckoned with.

“…Nick Waterhouse will pretty much blow your mind. He sounds like the best of early R&B with a heavy dose of Wild Records Rockabilly.” -LA Weekly

"Nick Waterhouse makes vintage R&B records like Dam-Funk makes funk records" - LA Record

"So so SO good. It's not old, it sounds old - but it's new. It's a good little twist.." - Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio 1

"For anyone who finds Jack White too refined, this raucous San Francisco singer-songwriter might seem like a revelation." - Toronto Star

“Nick Waterhouse is the mastermind behind San Francisco's R&B revival.” - SF CHRONICLE

“Recording entirely in analog on vintage equipment and performing with beautiful tube amps and old guitars, his attention to detail and historical accuracy pays off. The result is a classic R&B sound that at times is gritty and raw and at others smooth

and viscous as warm molasses.” - SF GUARDIAN

“The recording itself was made by Gary Lucas and Mike Kemp of the Cambridge University Tape Recording Soci-

ety on a quarter-inch ReVox open-reel tape recorder. Kemp, who would go on with Lucas to create Spaceward

Studios, recalled this being done “at the last minute.” As he remembered years later for the Spaceward Studio

website, (www.spacewardstudios.uk.net), “all that was available was a rather poor mixer so we stuck a stereo

microphone pair across the stage for drums / backline and mixed in some [front of house] PA.”

Though the tapes were listened to in the weeks after the show, Lucas and Kemp upgraded their recording equip-

ment to half-inch a few months later and the quarter-inch reels disappeared, thought perhaps to be lost forever.

Fortunately for us, that wasn‟t to prove to be the case. In 1985 a reel was unearthed at Spaceward Studios,

noted to contain the Syd Barrett element of the show plus “parts of the Hawkwind and Pink Fairies sets” and in

2005 a second copy of the recordings was unearthed in a collection of tapes stored in the attic of Gary Lucas.

It‟s the Lucas tape, via an appearance on the auction lists at Bonhams in Knightsbridge, which has enabled the

release of this pivotal show.

We‟re very pleased to present these recordings, cleaned-up and re-mastered, enabling Hawkwind‟s dedicated

fan base to experience the band in full flow, poised to fly high and fly far, making the very concept of space rock

their own in perpetuity.

Previously unheard and unreleased live Hawkwind show from the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1972” – Ian Abrahams (Taken From Sleeve Notes).
