Water is very precious for next decade globally and big
challenge to meets the demand for Industry, Irrigation and
Drinking.
World Bank is funding for Modernization and upgrade the
Hydrological Measurement Techniques, Automation and
their Implementation in India as well as other Countries.
The aim is to get quality Hydrological data which can be
utilized for the Model’s for regulating Water in Precise &
Smart way.
Automation of water management system will contribute
toward flaw less availability of water to USER with optimize
man power deployment and integrated information at local
and central office’s

Advantages of Siphon Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge
Siphon based Rain Gauge minimize the impact of different
rate of rainfall.
Siphon based Rain Gauge can be calibrate for different
rate of Rainfall intensities where as Non Siphon only for one
rate of Rainfall intensity.
They prevent spreading of water drops outside the
bucket by release the rainfall water straight and allows
controlled flow to bucket.
With “Dual Reed Switch” the TBRG can minimize field
maintenance work and can connect to parallel system too.

Features of TBRG Sensor for Snow Area (With Heater Kit)
•All Die-Cast Aluminum construction (perfect anti corrosion)
makes it sustains in snowy condition better than other TBRG.
•The heater kit underwent testing in an operating temperature of
-20C (snow) with 35W to melt such iced snow.
•The kit has TWO elements (one to melt snow/ice in the
catchment) another to ensure water in the bucket is kept in an
unfrozen state for not only measurement but discharge of water
on each tip of the bucket.
•TB3H/LP has a ‘sensor’ to detect precipitation in the catchment
(so it only operates when snow is detected) which save power in
the remote area.
•Operate on 12 - 24 VDC or from a 12 - 24VAC power supply.

WATER FLOWCurrent Meters
OSSB1 Universal Type (A large propeller meter which can be used for relatively shallow streams using a wading rods or medium to high flow on winch, Hornet Plus or Hornet SS system )
RB1 ‘Redback’ Cup Type (A large cuptype meter which can be used for relatively shallow streams using a wading rods or MagnaRod or medium to high flows on a winch, Hornet Plus or Hornet SS system)
OSSPC1 Pygmy Type (Small ‘pygmy’ propeller type used only on a wading rod or MagnaRod for shallow streams)

WATER FLOWCurrent Meter Counters
Counter CMC20A [A counter only to display propeller (or cup) revolutions over a pre-set interval (hung around the neck)]
Pointing Velocity Display
PVD100 / 200 (A counter to display propeller (or cup) revolutions over a pre-set interval PLUS calculate and display ‘point velocity’ once the calibration equations for the current meter are entered. (hung around the neck))
Gauging Computer
CMC3 Hydromate (A paperless computer hung around the operators neck. Distance and depth can be entered via a touch screen, are and point velocity are logged and total discharge estimated. Data downloadable at the end of the day to a laptop or desktop in CSV format!)

Cable Fox
Cable Fox system is the latest innovation forpositioning an ADCP on a new or existingcableway.
Cable Fox operate on steel cables from12.7mm to 28.5mm dia with Traversingspeed adjustable from 0.01m/s to 0.80m/s
Hoist motor available as an option (100kg )lifting capability
15
Flying Fox
The Flying Fox (8mm rope required) works ONLY with a rope and can be used ONLY for ADCP’s

Advantage of Constant & Dry Bubbler System
•The pressure in a bubbler system should always be maintained in
the orifice line for accurate measurement.
• Constant bubbler ensure bubbles are continuously being pushed
out of the river line and a level measurement can be taken at any
time.
• Non-constant bubblers turn off in between measurements & it
can take up to 15 minutes for the pressure stabilization in line.
• Dry Bubblers free from trapping airborne moisture and ensure
reliable measurement with free from Desiccant Cartridge i.e.
Maintenance free & no recurring cost to user.
• Trapped moisture in the lines of the bubbler, causing ongoing
data errors until the complete river line is replaces.

WATER LEVELOrifice Types
•Standard orifice fitting
Suit galvanised pipe thread
Copper pressure fitting
•Suits streams with high sediment conditions and
fast rate of rise
•Low bubble rate
•Copper screen underneath
•‘Flexi’ coupling to suit galvanised pipe thread

Issues for modernizing data procurement methodologies
There is need of Improved Technology based Equipments
/ sensors having least maintenance with workmanship to
ensure longevity field operation of sensors. (10 years).
Proper & correct specification of desire sensor / system
with inclusion of “Sensor Design Technology” in the
Technical Specification.
Proper price estimation of the Each System Component /
Parts.
Specification Ensures for quality data from sensor in the
operational system.
30
Suggestion for modernizing data procurement methodologies
The ability of Rainfall sensor to sustain in heavy rainfall
event with accurate data during variable intensive
rainfall event.
Preferred Constant Bubbler (True Bubbler) Water Level
Sensor, which maintained continuous pressure in the
orifice line, for reliable water level for big span Indian
Rivers during flood event.
Field camera support by logger as component of system
to see the facts of the site in real time.(May be focus to
Gauge post, Gate position)
31
Suggestion for modernizing data procurement methodologies
The data should be transfer from field directly over
End User email addresses and ftp addresses of servers to
ensure receive of “original field data” via GSM /GPRS
Telemetry (Cheaper & No complexity than INSAT
Transmitter).
Satellite Modem (works with Polar Orbit Satellite
constellation i.e. Iridium Satellites) may be approve by
Govt. of India for special services like Water Sector
monitoring with dedicated frequencies, so very remote
places data can be obtain easily..
