St. Joseph Catholic Church

Welcome to our Parish Family, Friends and Visitors, As Jesus says to the apostles in today’s Gospel, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” So they, of course, got in their boat and crossed to a deserted place. As we enjoy the middle of our Sandpoint summer, we can relate to the call from Christ to get away and rest in the Lord. This past week, Vacation Bible School was held at our parish! A round of applause and heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard, and to Annette Borges for organizing it. 15 volunteers helped put together this amazing week‐long program for 65 of our community youth. This is a wonderful summer opportunity to pass on the faith to our children. I hope to see many of you this Sunday at noon for our annual Parish Picnic. It will be held right here on our parish lawn. This is always a highlight, with delicious homemade fare from some of the world’s best cooks! The Knights are providing the meat to BBQ and the drinks, and the rest of the parish brings a side dish to share. See you here! Have a blessed week, Fr. Dennis

Pope’s Intention for July: Universal Prayer: Evangelization

That priests, who experience fatigue and loneliness in their pastoral work, may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their friendships with their brother priests.

Eucharistic Adoration Please sign up for an hour of Adoration in our Lord’s presence. This is a powerful prayer ministry, bringing immeasurable benefits to our parish. We need help keeping this ministry thriving. Please Call John Kroker, 208‐627‐2432 if you would like to sign up. “Come to me and you will find rest for your soul.” (Mt 11: 28‐29) P AT R O N S A I N T O F G A R D E N I N G

Saint Fiacre of Breuil (circa AD 600 – 670), the Catholic priest, abbot, hermit, and gardener of the seventh century who was famous for his sanctity and skill in curing infirmities. He emigrated from his native Ireland to France. While living in France, St. Fiacre petitioned the bishop for land where he could grow a healing herb garden. The bishop promised Fiacre as much land as he could entrench in a day. Fiacre then paced the perimeter of the land he desired, dragging his spade behind him. Wherever the spade touched, trees were toppled, bushes uprooted, and the soil was entrenched. He there constructed for himself a hermitage, together with a vegetable and herb garden, oratory, and hospice for travelers. This miracle of a garden became a place of pilgrimage for those seeking healing. Many resorted to him for advice, and the poor, for relief. His charity moved him to attend cheerfully those that came to consult him; and in his hospice he entertained all comers, serving them with his own hands, and sometimes miraculously restored to health those that were sick. He lived a life of great mortification devoted to prayer, fasting, keeping vigils, and manual cultivation of his garden. He died on 18 August AD 670, and his body was interred in the local church of the site of his hermitage complex. His feast day is September 1.
