ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
Thank you so much to those who were able to help us out with
laptop computers. The response was amazing and we are truly
blessed with the support of such a giving community. Thank you
and God bless you for your generosity.
MOTHER’S GROUP Please come out and gather with us this coming Wednesday,
April 10th @ 7:45 PM here at the church. Your local Catholic
Mother's Group meeting is the opportunity for you to have time
of prayer with fellow moms in a peaceful setting and also the
opportunity to meet other Catholic moms in your community.
Please come to pray, have a cup of coffee and re-energize to be
the best mom you can be! Feel free to e-mail
[email protected] for any questions or to be added
to the e-mail list. Hope to see you there!
Our April craft class will be held in the north
meeting room on Thursday April 11th from
9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All ladies are welcome.
At this time of the year when cold viruses and flus are common
place, we are conscious that we do not want to give or receive this
particular illness. At Mass, if someone should not extend his or
her hand to you, please do not be offended. Perhaps he or she
would not like to pass on his or her germs. To ensure that we have
a clean and healthy environment, we at St. Francis de Sales Parish
are constantly changing the water in our baptismal font as well as
sanitizing all surfaces handled by the public. If you have the flu,
we ask you to please stay home and rest. The Catholic Church
does not consider missing Mass on Sunday due to illness as a sin.

REFLECTION
As we come closer to the celebration of Easter, we will see
various programs on TV, claiming that Jesus was not God (but
only an invention of the later Church) and that He was not
resurrected.
Last week we wrote about the “Theft Theory” which states that
the disciples stole the corpse of Jesus to perpetuate the hoax of
the Resurrection. This week, we look at the “Swoon Theory.”
This Swoon theory comes to us about 19 centuries after the
death of Christ, wherein it suggests that Jesus did not die, but
only went into a deep faint, from which he later recovered.
This theory was put forward by some who are embarrassed by
the supernatural aspect of Christianity.
To refute this, one has to remember and read in Sacred
Scripture that no one ever denied that Christ died. If the Theft
Theory denied the Resurrection, then the Swoon Theory seeks
to deny that Christ died on the Cross. The initial death of
Christ was never a point of contention. The Jews thought
Christ was dead, as did Pilate who questioned the centurion
and Joseph of Arimathea, who requested the dead body of
Jesus and used his own unused tomb for burial.
Furthermore, crucifixion was an effective form of death. It
killed people in a host of ways. The person dying from
crucifixion could have experienced pains for days on end. In
Jesus’ case, His crucifixion lasted about three hours. A
crucified person experienced, dizziness, cramps, thirst,
starvation, sleeplessness, fever, shame and asphyxiation.
Even if Jesus did not die by way of crucifixion, how could a
man in such a state in a stone-cold tomb remove the grave
cloths which were stuck to his body by means of myrrh and
how would he have been able to roll away a huge stone? Once
outside the tomb, Jesus would have had to fight off the guard.
With these weaknesses in the Swoon Theory, it would be best
to bury this preposterous idea that Christ did not die by way of
crucifixion. What the disciples saw on Easter Sunday was not
a walking corpse (like the popular TV show) but a glorious
Christ.
Have an intimate dialogue with God. Prayer is a basic element of
a life of faith, but it isn’t always easy to do. Dr. Tim Gray offers
the traditional solution to the problem of prayer in this important
series. FORMED on demand – check it out www.formed.org

Section Four: The Way Forward The fourth and final section of Cardinal Thomas Collins'
Pastoral Letter on Stewardship is focused on The Way Forward.
To continue to develop vibrant parishes, it is key that we try to
increase active engagement. "It is a lively faith family that
challenges us as disciples to do great things for Jesus, in the
spirit of the Acts of the Apostles." To read the full pastoral letter,
