Verify the vehicle owner's original concern by duplicating the concern.
Vehicle Inspection Chart
Inspect to determine if one of these mechanical or electrical concerns apply. (See Vehicle Inspection Chart)
If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and proceed to the following symptom chart.

E: Voltage and resistance readings can be obtained using Rotunda Digital Volt-Ohmmeter 014-00407 or Rotunda Dwell-Tach-Volt-Ohms Tester0010 or equivalents.
EST AND SERVICE DOOR LOCK SYSTEM:
Check that battery is fully charged (if not, it may be causing the concern)
E: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM)50) relearns it's adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

e Remote Alarm and Lock system combines the functions of the Electronic Door Lock Control system and the Vehicle Anti-Theft system into agle module called the receiver assembly. receiver assembly communicates on the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester diagnostics interface. Diagnostic testing is controlled by turning onuts, reading inputs, retrieving DTCs, clearing DTCs, direct memory reference and initiating functional tests. Some of the tester's specificbilities are listed below.

Continuous DTCs are not affected when running an on-demand self test.
E: Do not press any buttons or switches during the on-demand self test.
receiver assembly is well equipped to identify bad inputs, but can do little to diagnose bad outputs. The individual testing the system must look forin outputs to operate during the 10-second self test. The self test should be used for a quick overview of the system to determine if certainystems are operating correctly.

Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester
unda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 is a menu-driven device that allows self test diagnostics and DTC retrieval.

e NGS Tester communicates to the receiver assembly through the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD-ll) data link connector. The connector is located inpassenger compartment on the driver's side under the steering column.
ving Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)
e receiver assembly monitors the system during normal operation and reports concerns in the form of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). The DTCs
be retrieved with the NGS Tester through the communication link.
e following procedure can be used to retrieve DTCs.
1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2. Locate the tester data link located below the steering column.
3. NOTE: Only one multi-pin connector is used. Connect the tester connector to the vehicle data link connector.
4. NOTE: If the message LO BAT appears in the upper left corner of the read-out display and stays on, replace the tester's 9-volt battery beforecontinuing with the on-board diagnostics. The message LO BAT appears momentarily when power switch is turned off.
Turn on the power switch on the right side of the tester. A steady 00 or blank screen signifies that the tester is ready to start the on-boarddiagnostics and receive diagnostic trouble codes.
5. With the ignition switch still off, push the button in the center of the tester.
6. Push the button again. This deactivates the sequence.
7. If the tester passes the above test (00 or blank screen with button in TEST position), proceed with the on-board diagnostic procedure. If anydiagnostic trouble codes appear during the on-board diagnostics, refer to the symptom chart.

8. Connect Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent to the connector located in the engine compartment. Verifythat the tester is in SLOW MODE.
9. Turn on the tester and latch the button down in the TEST position.
10. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
11. NOTE: Write down all codes. Code 16 indicates system OK. Do not replace anti-lock brake electronic control module.
Read the first code output; after approximately 15 seconds the next code will be output.

Wiring Connector Probe Points
nfirm a break in the wiring or a poor connection between a blade and terminal at a connector, use Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester0500 or equivalent to test receiver assembly circuit inputs. Follow these steps:
Turn ignition switch to ON position.Connect the NGS Tester.Select the vehicle type, Data Link, RAP, ACTIVE COMMANDSSelect PID LATCHSelect PlDSSelect the input to be monitored, LATCHIO and then START.Press or activate the switch on the circuit in question and keep it in its active state.LATCHIO is the latch input/output PID. At this point it counts the number of times that any input or output changes state. All other inputs willlock on the first change in state that is seen while on this PID LATCH screen.

Wiggle the wire at the point where connection is questionable.The LATCHIO PID keeps count of all state changes (even after the specific input looks on the first change in value). If there is a looseconnection, the LATCHIO number increase quickly as the wire is wiggled.
