    CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) You, O Lord, have called us to enter into your gates with joyful singing, yet how often we grumble and complain. You have blessed us in many aspects of our lives yet so often, we lack a basic gratitude for all that is wonderful in creation and in life. Restore us to joy through worship, to grace through living, and to love in all of our relationships. Remind us in all of our living of the tremendous, heart warming gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord, and Redeemer. It is in His name that we ask this. (Silence for personal confession)

National/International Mission Malawi Partnership Update: We have not made an FPCP visit to Malawi this year, but several members have been volunteering in Malawi in 2017 for different ministries. Here are some recent highlights of FPCP supported activities in Malawi: - Anji Martin traveled to Malawi for six weeks this spring as part of her masters degree program at the University of Pittsburgh. Anji's project in Malawi was to survey farmers in the Mtenthera region to determine what benefits they realized from the Farming God's Way (conservation agriculture) training they had received from Veritas College, sponsored by our partnership. Final statistics are still being compiled, but Anji's general sense is that farmers were grateful for the training and realize they must change how they work their soil in order to reduce food insecurity. Anji also spent many days at Mtenthera CCAP and preached sermons on several Sundays. We are so grateful for her willingness to represent FPCP at Mtenthera and continue to build strong relationships there. - Laura McHugh took a week long volunteer trip to Malawi with Malawi Matters. Laura assisted the team in Malawi as they provided HIV/AIDS prevention and women's empowerment training to several hundred pastors' wives and women's guild members. Laura stopped by Mtenthera CCAP briefly and was able to greet the new pastor, Rev. Mark Kalingande. We thank Laura for traveling to Malawi on her own to support Malawi Matters, an organization sponsored by FPCP. - Three FPCP members will be traveling to Malawi this month to volunteer with Marion Medical Mission. Tom Kage, Doug Kee and Don Kronig (recently relocated to Colorado) will be part of the first of two teams of US volunteers who will spend three weeks in rural African villages in Malawi, Tanzania or Zambia, installing shallow water wells. Marion Medical's team will leave for Malawi on September 15th and return October 8th. - At Mtenthera, the harvest has been completed. We are very grateful that the Lord provided good rains and thus a plentiful harvest of maize and beans this year. There are always challenges as prices fall and storage is limited, but the farmers in central Malawi can provide for their families and earn some cash this year from their crops. We are currently supporting ongoing Veritas College training in Farming God's Way for church members to help them improve soil condition and future crop yields. Your support with food aid the past couple of years is most appreciated and not taken for granted. The farmers in Malawi live in complete dependence upon adequate rainfall each year. For more information on Veritas College’s role in Malawi, see their newsletter at fpcp.net/serve/mission/national-mission - In mid October, our partnership coordinator from Malawi, Hussein Latif, will be visiting FPCP from October 15 - 26. Hussein will be preaching at all three services on Sunday, October 22nd. We are also planning an evening event during Hussein's visit to Plymouth, when he will update us on current activities at Mtenthera CCAP. Please plan to join us and greet Hussein during his visit to Plymouth. National International Mission Committee

DISASTER RESPONSE: HURRICANES HARVEY AND IRMA The unprecedented hurricanes in Texas and Florida caused death and widespread destruction. As efforts to recover from these storms mobilize, you can support Christian organizations that are playing important roles in supporting the affected communities. Please join these organizations and all those responding to these and other human tragedies with both prayer and action. Salvation Army The Salvation Army has activated all of its US and Canadian emergency disaster response assets in an unprecedented response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, which have wrought devastation across large areas of the Caribbean and southern USA. These units are able to provide food, shelter and emotional and spiritual care to those impacted by this ongoing devastating weather event. We work with Salvation Army here in Plymouth and trust they are very efficient and effective in their disaster recovery work. You can assist Salvation Army with their current disaster response by donating to: https://give.salvationarmyusa.org/site/Donation2?df_id=27651&mfc_pref=T&27651.donation=form1 Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is our church's arm that organizes relief efforts for our denomination. They typically play a role in the later recovery phases of disaster relief, assisting with social services and physical rebuilding of communities after the initial emergency responses are completed. Our church was actively involved with PDA for several years in long term assistance, primarily home repairs and rebuilding, after Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi. You can support PDA now through your prayers and donations to: https://pma.pcusa.org/donate/make-a-gift/gift-info/DR000169/ You will notice on their website (https://pda.pcusa.org/situations/national/) that there are already many less publicized disasters being addressed around the country by PDA. Please consider how you can support PDA as a donor or volunteer as opportunities arise. National International Mission Committee

Calling All Gardeners (and shoppers!) Once again we have the opportunity to help families within our community by donating fresh fruits and vegetables to Northville Civic Concern. If your garden has an abundant crop, please consider sharing. Whatever you bring in and leave on the produce stand in the Narthex will be delivered to Civic Concern. Each week they donate groceries and produce to local families that may otherwise go without. If you do not have a garden but would like to contribute, store bought produce is also accepted. The Local Mission committee is so thankful for your generosity. We will be collecting produce through the end of September.

    Local Mission

Join Local Mission at Second Mile Center! Second Mile Center is a Christ-centered community center located in one of the most

challenging areas of Detroit. The Local Mission Committee is looking for volunteers willing to help serve dinner on Monday, September 25. We will meet at the church around 4:00 pm to carpool to SMC. We plan on returning around 8:00 pm. Sign-up sheet is on

    the Local Mission bulletin board.

We also need volunteers to provide 2 dozen cookies or brownies (homemade or store bought - no nuts or oatmeal, please!). Baked goods need to be delivered to the church kitchen no later than 3:00 pm on September 25. Sign-up on the Local Mission bulletin

board. Thank you for supporting the Second Mile Center community!

FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for the 13,000 children in foster care in Michigan. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child each month. This month we are praying for 13-year-old Shelby. She recently attended the Meet and Greet party at FPCP this August. Shelby enjoys playing games and participating in sports, and wants to be a cheerleader. She also enjoys crocheting. And unlike many kids, Shelby enjoys school, listing writing and art as her favorite subjects. More info can be found at Mare.org. If you are interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044. Beginning this fall, FPCP will be hosting the foster care meetings for Western Wayne and Oakland County. Our first meeting is Monday, October 16 at 6:15 p.m.
