Bob Long Wow, another year gone by and what a year! On the World scene we have had wars, race issues, immigration problems, stock market all over the place, and we had some big elec- tions. Thankfully we seem to be ending the year with many of these things behind us… and a very positive outlook to begin 2015. On the business front it also has been a very interesting year. We started out the first full year in the 300,000 sq.ft. Sarasota facility with a shop full of new projects like helicopter training simulators, theme park rides and many new marine projects. In the first half of 2014 we experienced a phenomenal all-time record in business… and although it slowed a little in late summer as dealer shows, vacations, new budgets, and the boating season came to a close, we are thankful to say now that sales for the plant have again become brisk. We expect to end 2014 and enter 2015 with a great backlog and sales. We have grown our base of CNC robotic routers to 7 and our group of experts to 180. This has allowed us to keep our customers happy with good quality, on-time delivery and professional service. In addition to standard FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) open molds, we are now specialists in closed molds, such as RTM (resin transfer molding), vacuum bagged & infusion molds, and capable of doing epoxy and some metal molds. Due to this capability we are now into many other markets such as wind energy, training simulators, amuse- ment parks, government and public vehicles, aerospace, and military contracts. This did not just happen, and it certainly was not overnight! We sent people to school, we worked with colleges, we hired experts, we trained people for new things, we bought new equipment and soft- ware… and it is paying off. Our people have worked hard, studied hard, and put some real effort into improving themselves and the Company. This year completes my 20th year of owning JRL Ventures/Marine Concepts, my 45th year in this business. Some of you may remember our first grandchild (we now have 12 grandchildren), Christina Long, from our early days when she was pictured as a toddler on my lap working on the computer. Boston Whaler Teams up with MarineConcepts on New 420 Outrage Project?

A Message from Bob - cont.~

As we close another great year, we thank our awesome employees, our loyal customers, our reliable suppliers and everyone who has given us support. From our family to yours… we wish you a very Merry Christmas, and a wonderful New Year.

Sincerely,

Boston Whaler has long been a valued customer of Marine Concepts and looked to the tooling experts for a solution to a weight concern regarding the mold for a brand new larger model – the 420 Outrage. The company presented the project with a requirement that the mold weigh no more than 60,000 lbs.

In a recent feature article in Composites Manufacturing Magazine’s Nov/Dec issue, if built using traditional methods, the completed mold would have weighed over 90,000 lbs. After the design was completed using CAD software, the Marine Concepts engineers, along with sev-eral contracted partners, went to work on an infused laminate sched-ule using CNC milled cored flat panel for structure and an intricate steel exoskeleton affixed using composite glue. The finished mold not only met the weight requirement; Boston Whaler reported that the mold strength met the analysis.

“What we have learned on this proj-ect can be easily transferred to other tools where weight is a critical parameter,” said Chris Wachowski, Boston Whaler, Director of Product Development..

Proud American, Khalil Bacchus, is a 4 year veteran of JRL Ventures / Ma-rine Concepts and believes this com-pany is the reason why he is in Florida. Khalil was born in British Guyana (at

the time under the rule of Queen eliza-beth II and in 1966 given independence). His Mother, brother and sisters moved to the United States and he followed on June 12, 2004. He heard such wonder-ful things and wanted to become a con-tributing member of this great nation. He is a U.S. Citizen and is excited to be an American and loves his job immensely!

JRL/MC employees collected enough food at their Sarasota and Cape Coral facilities to feed over 50 families for Thanksgiving! John Long headed up the Cape project while Alan Mowbray took the lead at the Sarasota plant. The Cape’s donations went to the Cape Coral Caring Center and Sarasota’s went to The Food Bank of Manatee County. Thank you for your donations!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In response to a request from ACMA (American Composites Manufacturers Association) to produce a pre-conference seminar, Sidney Lanier (JRL/MC Director of Engineering) was honored to present and went above and beyond by developing an extremely educa-tional program at CAMX (Composites & Advanced Materi-als Expo) titled “Composite Tooling Methods and Design”.

Beginning with a short piece on the history and evolution of composites manufacturing, attendees were walked through the entire tooling process from initial concept to completed tooling and first article part construction with an emphasis on planning and preparation. Throughout the presentation specific details were provided concerning methods and de-sign, concept development, engineering and analysis, 3D data acquisition, CAD modeling, construction, multi axis routers, and tooling. As one of the top naval architects in the country and overseeing the most knowledgeable engineers and

composite experts in the tooling industry, Sidney was very comfort-able and an ideal choice to represent JRL/MC for the three hour long seminar.

Lanier reviewed JRL Ventures/Marine Concepts capabilities to fully cater from conceptual design, R&D, CNC Milling/Tooling, and lim-ited run production. For additional information visit the JRL Ven-tures, Inc. and Marine Concepts websites.

We are excited to be in the middle of our busy show season! This time of year gives us the opportunity to see many Customers and Friends and catch up, and we are proud to see many of the projects we teamed up with our customers to produce on display.

At IBEX, we were excited to see the increase in attendance and ex-hibitors at the show in Tampa this year. It was great seeing current and prospective customers and being able to discuss past, current and future projects. It’s very motivating to see that business is good for many and, while not over the top, steady growth continues.

Also in October, we exhibited at the first CAMX (Composites and Ad-vanced Materials Expo) Show in Orlando which was combined with the SAMPE (Society for the Advancement of Material and Process En-gineering) Conference. This was a great start to consolidating the com-posites groups. Traffic was very strong here as well. And just like IBEX, it was good to see the positive energy and steady growth of so many of our Customers. Having the two shows combined also created an even larger amount of seminars to learn about new processes. We met with many of our marine customers at the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show. It was amazing to see the finished product from all of the tooling we produced over the last year. There are some very exciting and innovative boats available, more so than ever before!

Having two fantastic magazine articles highlighting Marine Concepts certainly helped us as well. The featured article in Professional Boat Builder and the Composite Manufacturing article featuring Boston Whaler and Marine Concepts working together on new technology were awesome.

At the beginning of December we exhibited at I/ITSEC in Orlando. We were able to see our very valued simulator customers there. We also vis-ited many customers at the Marine Dealers Conference and the IAAPA Show as well -- this is where theme parks and attractions display their new rides. Very exciting!

As we welcome 2015 we are starting on some very exciting and inter-esting projects in the marine industry. Those customers who planned their projects well enough in advance have been able to lock down sev-eral production slots while saving 5% on their entire project by submit-ting complete, mill-ready files as part of our first-ever sales promotion held in October. We will continue to be ready and prepared to assist our customers in all-inclusive new product development projects, small or large tooling, or anything in between.

From myself, my wife Debra, and my entire family to you and yours, we thank you for your loyalty and dedication and wish you health, happi-ness, and success this Holiday season as well as in the New Year ahead. Thank you to our customers, employees (and their families), vendors, and friends for your continued support! See you at the next shows!

Sincerely,

Matt Chambers

On the business front it also has been a very interesting year. We started out the first full year in the 300,000 sq.ft. Sarasota facility

with a shop full of new projects like helicopter training simulators, theme park rides and many new marine projects.

Due to this capability we are now into many other markets such as wind energy, training simulators, amuse-ment parks, government and public vehicles, aerospace, and military contracts.

This did not just happen, and it certainly was not overnight! We sent people to school, we worked with colleges, we hired experts, we trained people for new things, we bought new equipment and soft-ware… and it is paying off.

Well, she is 18 now and in her senior year of high school and a beautiful young lady. How time flies.

Sincerely,

Bob Long
