The Accelerated Talent Development Programme (ATDP) is specifically designed to provide a substantial development experience to talented, high potential managers. The programme combines a breadth of usable business knowledge with the development of personal insight required to turn this knowledge into action. The programme represents the first part of a 12-month development process, specifically designed to provide participants with the capabilities required to fulfil their potential. Ongoing individual support and intensive coaching are key features. The ATDP is designed to accelerate the contribution of highly talented individuals, to enable them to add greater value and build a high profile in their organisations. The programme is delivered by senior faculty who are recognised thinkers in their fields and all participants have access to Cranfield’s deeply practical research. The style of delivery is highly interactive and personally challenging. Subject sessions are supplemented with one-to-one coaching and there are opportunities for analysis and debate around key management issues with peers from different industries and backgrounds. APPROACH The ATDP blends essential business knowledge with a powerful personal development focus and it is this particular dimension that makes the programme so compelling. Managerial knowledge is translated into action through a twelve-month development process emphasising personal contribution, style and impact.

STRUCTURE In a modular format (an initial twelve days plus three and twelve-month reviews). The design delivers a combination of practical business knowledge and personal development insight, which enables participants to optimise their learning through effective action. Ongoing development support and coaching throughout the twelve-month period is a unique feature. PROGRAMME SUMMARY The ATDP is a substantial and enduring development experience for talented, high potential managers. Delivery includes a highly interactive blend of live case studies, applied business projects, syndicated discussions and individual assignments. You will be challenged to add greater value through the credibility of your contribution. All participants will develop a 100-day action plan with clear objectives, milestones and outcomes that support the clear application of learning to the business. Three and twelve-month review modules consolidate this learning and enable participants to re- evaluate progress as a foundation for continuing development. WHO ATTENDS? Participants are ambitious, talented individuals, who have the capability to become high-flyers of the future. Usually responsible for implementing rather than developing strategy, participants come from a variety of functional and specialist backgrounds. Typically, they would benefit from a wider business perspective and a more mature, confident management style in order to fulfil their promise. Past participants have come from all business sectors, as well as public, ‘not for profit’, and charity organisations.

ACCELERATED TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME SAMPLE TIMETABLE

WEEK 1 In the first week you will begin to build a personal development agenda. This agenda forms the starting point for project work over the middle weekend. A different location during this period provides the learning context for this project, which is a realistic simulation of your managerial challenges. Developing Managers Potential Organisational Culture and Change Managing Politics Leadership and teamwork Competitive strategy Managerial economics Finance and management accounting. The tasks closely parallel managerial activity in real organisations. During and after the project, a series of facilitated reviews, led by the tutorial team, will help you recognise clearly what is required to gain managerial visibility and credibility. The process will bring into sharp relief your key development areas, usually resulting in renewed confidence, clarity and sense of purpose.

WEEK 2 Throughout the second week, you will continue to experiment with your personal development agenda. You will also undertake a short project that provides a vehicle for translating insights from the programme into work-based actions. Managing Knowledge Effective Marketing Management E-Business and Supply Chain Management Operations Management Strategic Management of People.. The action planning process is taken very seriously. Each participant constructs a comprehensive 100-day action plan covering personal development and organisational change issues. Expressed in highly practical terms, this plan has clear objectives, detailed examples, deadlines and measurable outcomes. On the final day, you will present the key elements of your plan, focusing in particular on what you expect to have achieved by the time of the Review Modules. PROGRESS REVIEW MODULE (3 MONTHS) Three months after the course you are invited back for a 24-hour review module to revisit your action plan and set new targets in light of your progress. CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT REVIEW MODULE (12 MONTHS) To support your continuing development you are invited back to Cranfield to reflect on the long-term impact of your development from the programme, gain an insight into managing your continuing personal development, renew your development agenda and plan the next phase.

“Greater visibility and credibility within our organisation not only for myself but for members of my team were two of the key consequences of my participation on Cranfield’s Accelerated Talent Development Programme,” says Jacqui Wales, Marketing Manager of leading international cable supplier, Eland Cables. “I chose the course because I had progressed fairly quickly within the company and realised that I needed a clearer understanding of other aspects of the business. Also I knew I managed by instinct and wanted to broaden my understanding of the different ways of motivating and directing people towards the company’s objectives. I gained a valuable perspective on my managerial style from the course leaders and participants. Hearing how other people viewed me has helped me make some useful changes. For example, I’ve learned the importance of how I say things in terms of my credibility. The pitch and tone of my voice can make a big difference to the impact of what I am saying and how confident I sound. In fact, greater confidence all round was one of my most useful gains from the course. During the course and the review days I gained far greater confidence in my own abilities and the things that I was already doing right as well as clearer insight into the areas I needed to improve and a practical plan for making the necessary changes. Overall, the course was a real confidence boost and through the tailored personal development approach, including feedback from other course participants, we were all able to learn more about our different strengths and weaknesses. Writing and commiting to a 100 day action plan ensured the leaning translated to actual behavioural changes and the benefits are ongoing.”
