Alteva is North America’s largest enterprise-level hosted VoIP provider, and has become the pioneer for showcasing the high quality and reliability of Hosted VoIP solutions. Alteva provides businesses with "Communication as a Service" that requires minimal installation and configuration while eliminating monthly phone system maintenance charges, and reducing overall telephony costs. With a sophisticated open standards infrastructure, Alteva enables businesses to easily integrate existing business applications. Rather than building their processes around the limitations of their phone system, Alteva’s customers build their phone systems around their ideal processes. VoIP vs PSTN

"The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published a request for public comment <http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-09-2517A1.pdf> (pdf) on an upcoming transition from the decades-old circuit-based Public Switched Telephone. Network to a new system run entirely with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. This is perhaps the most serious indication to date that the legacy telephone system will, in the near future, reach the end of its life. This public commenting phase represents a very early stage in what will undoubtedly be a very complex transition that makes this year's bumpy switch from analog to digital television look relatively easy."

Dual SIP Paths

Released local to travel shortest path possible

Page 9: Alteva Presentation

• Make Sure the Internet Connection supports enough bandwidth for Voice and Data

• Bandwidth by itself is not enough, IP latency is a key ingredient to a Quality VoIP product. (150ms or less)

• Speed and path that the voice is traveling will affect quality

• No need for expensive MPLS overhead because of the router’s ability to create Ipsec tunnels between sites

Transport Elements to Consider

Page 10: Alteva Presentation

Open SIP StandardsThere are several “FLAVORS” of SIP

•Polycom 330, 430, 450, 501, 550, 601, 650, and more.

Voice over IP design for the customer premise varies based on the existing network layout and planned changes prior to VoIP implementation. Customer networks should be evaluated and tested prior to the introduction of VoIP to the network.
