Alumni Relations

As Public Relations Chairman of Kappa Kappa Gamma, we have been focusing on interacting with our alumnae and active members through many new social outlets, and have continued to work on including them within all of our activites. Since our probation starting two years ago, we have been in constant contact with our alumnae, and letting them know our situation and how we have continuously changed our image throughout our chapter, school, and community. Since we have been off probation, our alumnae have still been incorporated and participating in many of our events. Our alumnae have been increasingly helpful, asking us how they can help in any way, and participating in our events and as chaperones to many of our chapter programming. Our contacts with our alumnae include facebook groups designated strictly for alumnae, and allowing them to be apart of our chapter group, which increases their involvement in all areas. We keep them updated through our social media, and by regularly addressing them and allowing them to know everything that is going on within the chapter.           Prevailing through our last few years, our newly installed House and Advisory Board has shown an amazing amount of increasing support. Since the renovation of our house, it has increased the amount of alumnae who have come to visit, and help with our house. It has been beneficial to help with our recruitment, and rituals. With these improvements, our house has been working more efficiently. Each member truly feels as if they have a home away from home within kappa. The alumnae have been very supportive with our renovation process and have fundraised to hep support us. With their fundraising, we have also been able to send girls to Province this past year. With this new education that they have brought back to our chapter, we have effectively been able to communicate it to our chapter, and our alumnae.                Kappa has also taken great leaps in their attempt to stay in contact with their advisors throughout their terms in position. Girls are required to email their advisors at least once a week updating the advisor as to what they have done within the week, and ask for help if it is needed. This has been increasingly helpful with communication, and allowing the advisors to effectively help out positions with specific problems in a timely manner. Kappa’s advisory board made it possible for each position to have their own advisor, allowing for one on one help. These advisors and officers have a variety of meetings, including a triplet meeting with the old officer when first installed, and different banquets helping them become well acquainted with each other. Meetings also take place roughly about once a month to verbally see each other in person.             Every fall, Kappa also sends out an annual newsletter, The Hoot, to our alumnae updating them of our accomplishments, upcoming events and happenings within the chapter. As we have done in previous years, we decided to send out two newsletters, a Spring and a Fall issue. We also have had photos of Epsilon Beta

girls participating in community service published in our national newsletter The Key, that is sent to all alumnae and active Kappas.

As we have done in previous years, Kappa wanted to focus on  getting alumnae to come to the house to get to know each girl personally. Each spring we hold an alumnae appreciation event at the house called A Key Affair. During this event we have a nice brunch and express our appreciation for our alumnae and everything that they do for us. For each of these events, we sent out personal invitations to every Philanthropy event and had many of them show up to each event to help support the chapter. Due to the fact that Kappa was able to recruit in the spring, we asked many alumnae to come and help us perform intiation with our Spring 2013 pledge class. This event was great because not only did it allow actives to practice their recruiting skills, but we were reminded of the importance of ritual and to make sure that it was running appropriately. Alumnae were also invited to attend our Founder’s Day, which celebrates the day that Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded as well as our spring and fall philanthropy events. We had a record amount of Kappa alumnae attend this event, which allowed us to come together as a group and share Kappa’s sacred ritual, and celebrate how amazing being apart of Kappa Kappa Gamma is.This year I felt that our alumni relations has really improved and this is seen in the increase of alumnae attending all of our events. My suggestions for future improvement in this area include continuing our relations on social media. This is an upcoming trend, and many people are switching to the internet to get information. Many advisors appreciate the constant updates on their social media because they feel more included within the house. We can not wait to see how our Alumni Relations continue to grow. Kappa Kappa Gamma can now say with full confidence that alumnae and active members are able to come together and celebrate our traditions and fraternity together.
