AMANDA KENNEDY DESIGN
PORTFOLIO
From a young age I have been interested in Art and Design. I have always enjoyed visit-ing art galleries and museums both in the UK and abroad. When I progressed to secondary school I studied and passed Standard Grade and Higher Art and Design. I also developed an interest in 3D structures and design concepts and became intrigued by the practical as-pects of design. At the same time I enjoyed the computer applications associated with these. I gained experience in these fields by studying Graphic Communications, Computing and Product Design.
At secondary school, I was awarded five certificates of achievement for continually attaining high standards in my work. As a member of the anti-bullying scheme (Friends Against Bully-ing) at school, I supported and guided other pupils who were experiencing problems. I was also a ‘Study Buddy’ assisting a pupil who experienced difficulties in Mathematics. These op-portunities increased my listening and tutoring skills and my ability in problem solving.
I have participated in three summer schools at Glasgow School of Art. In 2006 I took a port-folio preparation course which helped to develop my creative skills working on a series of 2D and 3D projects. In 2007 I took part in a sketching course and learned about several draw-ing techniques and gained further experience in still life, portraiture, landscaping and life drawing. Then in 2008 I attended a screen printing course. I explored different media using hand drawn, photographic, and electronic imagery in both monotone and in colour.
Other interests include The Girls Brigade in which I have been actively involved for 13 years. I won the trophy for Best Senior in 2001, have successfully completed all my badge work throughout and have recently passed the Leadership training course which allowed me to as-sist the officers with looking after the younger members of the company.
From the age of three I have attended dancing classes in ballet, tap and modern and have successfully passed examinations of the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance. I currently have a part time job in Tesco in the bakery department where I have benefited immensely from the team work, communication skills and organisation of a large company.
I studied Graphic Design (HNC/HND) at Glasgow Metropolitan College. The areas I have studied include digital imaging, visual communication, printing, photography, typography, web design, animation, desktop publishing and art history. Studying at Metropolitan College has been very rewarding and enjoyable, giving me the opportunity to use state of the art equipment and explore different techniques. My inspiration comes from everything around me - from art, music, films, fashion, television, books, art galleries, museums, different cul-tures and countries.
Following my HND year i went to the University of the West of Scotland here I am soon to gain my BA (hons) degree in Digtal Art. Through this course I gained a wider scope of It skills based in adobe suite from dreamweaver, photoshop, illustrator, indesign, flash and vid-eo software final cut. I also got a chance to use sound equipment, Dslr cameras, and video camera which developed my experience with technology. This course provided me with the freedom to work on a variety of mediums allowed me to develop my ideas and imagination in a practical and purposeful way. My work varied from 2d and 3d animation, illustration, photography, graphic design, life drawing and film making, In my final year for my degree i learned about graffiti, frehand drawing and environmental sculpture art. University has also given me experience and confidence in giving presentations of my work.
I am currently working in Tesco in Milngavie as a Bakery Assistance where I have been for four years now. In this line of work I have gained a vast amount of qualities to prepare me for the working life; stock awareness and rotation, working as part of a team, communication skills, good timekeeping and problem solving.
In conclusion, I believe my ability in and enthusiasm for creative and design subjects and activities have made me a well-rounded and confident person capable of success in the field of design.
THE BIGGER PICTURESet of three sculptures based on environmental art. Each re-flect a different issue ; the natural enironment, recycling and solar power and power conservation. The idea behind the sculptures was to get across the need for resources and to emphasize how it is very much overlooked. I also wanted to further develop my graffiti technique and show how versitile i can be by combining it with recycled materials. My inspi-rations come from Ann Garforth, Jason hackenwerth, Brad Schwede, Henk Hofstra, Jean- Michel Basquiate and Keith Haring. By displaying the process and technique throughout the project it will give a better understanding of the making of a graffiti and environmental art sculpture.

TRIANGLE
This brief was the final Graded Unit for my HND in Graphic Design. Elinor Brown and Charlotte Williams both students at Glasgow University in the creative writing course set up “Brown Williams Journal”. There aim was to publish their first edition in the form of am artist book entitled “Triangle”. Tri-angle started off as a single piece and then was passed on to more writers who added to it and then music student were asked to create pieces for it. This brief asked to create an art-ists book, identity for “Brown WIlliam Journal”, and display a label for the CD. For this brief I created six collage pieces for the six selected poems. I decided on a natural theme which kept with the tone of the music and the poems. Along with my natural theme I bound the book myself using string and used leather material for the cover. I also looked into origami amd created a triangular shape to hold the book, CD and CD cover.
ITS BEEN EMOTIONAL
This piece is a collaboration of the 20 character I have created showing a range of typical emotions. For this project I pro-duced an animation, individual posters, badges and stickers. Creating each characters individual poster allowed the charac-ters to be placed in a unique surrounding.Using marker pens for my animation and stencil spray paint techniques for my posters allowed me to develop my graffiti skills. I gained many inspirations but mostly from David shirgley in his drawing style and Keith Haring for graffiti and his colour pallete.

The text - “A Brief history of Type Presented by Marina Hydra and a provided soundtrack were to be used in the ani-mation. I have displayed some stills that appeared in the flash animation.
