Amdocs Real-Time User NotificationsAmdocs White PaperMay 2014
The challenge
Consumption of information and data is rising exponentially. Global mobile data traffic reached 1.5 Exabyte per month at the end of 2013 with 18 Exabyte annually. That’s nearly 18 times the size of the entire global Internet in 2000.

The challenge
In addition every family or group today has multiple network connected devices used by different members of the family, consuming services at multiple rates, e.g. the kids play online and download movies; Mom works online backing up her work in the cloud; Dad works and downloads music. And they all share the same plan.
This poses several challenges to telecom operators:
• How to accurately measure accumulated usage of alldevices and services.
• Providingreal-timenotificationswhenacertainthresholdhas been crossed.
• Supporting the rising notifications load to be sent tosubscribers.
• Meetingcustomers’expectationsintermsofnotificationfrequency and time.
• Providingmultiplenotificationstodifferentchannels.• Providingdifferentnotifications todifferentplanorgroup
members according to their role; e.g. the plan owner needs to be notified in advance when his quota has reached the threshold in order to decide whether to limit spending and/or order a top up. A plan member needs to be notified he is going to finish his limit.
• Providing real-time confirmation on different actionsperformed, e.g. defining spending limit, adding top up and more.

Real-time notification
Real-time notification is an important tool to increasecustomer satisfaction by providing the relevant information when it is needed.
Real-timenotificationanduserinteractionoffloadscustomercare by decreasing the number of calls to a call center and can be used as an efficient promotional tool for new offers and services.
Amdocs Convergent Charging enables the operator to simultaneously and accurately measure the different sessions
performed by all the plan members and aggregate them into a single account allowance.
Then they may decide in real time to issue the subscriber a notification when a threshold has been reached.
The system is aware of who is the plan owner and notifies him/her in advance about performing different actions; updating the spending limit and or adding top up, etc. It will also send notifications to the other devices when they are approaching the spending limit so as not to surprise them with service disruption.
