Write down on paper what you hope to accomplish with your site and what type of online publication you want to be.

Style: Conservative, serious, artsy

Step 2: Create a plan

Evaluate your staff

Set deadlines

Come up with a timeline

Choose a domain name

Purchase server space

Select a host

You can choose from a variety of services, but WordPress is one content management system some schools have tried.

You can set up multiple accounts with different levels of privileges

Turn your weekly/monthly pub into a daily one

Teach the students to post one new story or photo a day on the site.

They should be writing a tweet, submitting photos, a short story and then possibly a longer, more in depth story for print.

Remember to utilize the medium and don’t use shovelware

The Web is interactive. Use links and photos to draw the reader in.
