Audience Research• No matter how epic or how creative your

text is, it needs an audience.

• The media industry spends millions every year making sure they are providing audiences with the right content and finding out what they want.

Audience Research• For your productions you will need to know:

• Who your audience is

• Age/interests/views/opinions

• What other types of media they consume

• How they consume it

• Where do they get it from

• Who they identify themselves with

• How much they consume• Who they consume it with• The effect it has on them and the effect they have on it

Audience Research• Case studies

• A great way to find out how it’s done is to look at some case studies of other existing media texts.

Audience Research• Pick out key themes and ideas?

• How did they promote their text to their audience?

• Who were their audience?

• What platforms did they use?

• What experience did they want the audience to have?

Audience Research• Once you have an understanding of audience

you need to:• Identify your core audience• Identify your broader audience• Collect feedback from your audience that will effect

your text using» Surveys/polls/questionnaires» Focus groups» Exit polls

• Use this info make changes too and influence your idea• Help you to decide how this will effect/change your

ancillary texts and if they are the right platforms for your target audience
