In today’s Gospel Jesus tells the parable of the sower to those who are willing to listen. In this story, the seeds represent Jesus' words and the promise of the Kingdom of God and the soil is the soul in which it is "planted." It is the kind of heart that hears his words.
A seed is intended to be planted and is expected to produce. Small, yet it has a tremendous internal life. If it is tended well, its yield is abundant. Christ compares the Word of God to a seed. When it is welcomed its fruit is the works of Christ because the Word is Christ Himself. Although this seed is powerful, it is also precarious. If neglected it may wither or die. The soil, which refers to us, can welcome or reject the Word of God. Some of us may welcome it but the trials and difficulties of life make us unconvinced of God's love, thus doubt swallows the hope and life of this seed. Some may also welcome it but the concerns of life, the search for security, money and comfort silence the Word of God. This chase becomes our main preoccupation
. The Lord promises a huge harvest to those who welcome his Word and believe in it. Certainly there will be struggles, difficulties and temptation, but the Lord invites us to have our ears open because the Word of God can sustain, strengthen, encourage and enlighten.
Let us be rich soil, open to the message of God. He, the Source of life, brings us to the fullness of glory of his Son, to the glory he has prepared for us, his children.
Father Pawel

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Isaiah 55:10-11 Just as the rain and snow water the earth and make it fruitful, so does the word of God bring forth good seed. Second Reading: Romans 8:18-23 Reminding all that the trials and sufferings of this life are “as nothing,” Paul says that the glory we shall receive will overshadow all things. Gospel: Matthew 13:1-23 Jesus tells the parable of the sower and the seed. The seed that landed on the footpath, on rocky ground, or among thorns withered and died; the seed that fell on good ground -- “the man who hears the message and takes it in” ... “bears a yield of a hundred-fold.”
