Organisation

The World Mining Congress (WMC) was initiated in 1958 when

prof. Bolesław Krupiński - a prominent Polish scientist and mining

engineer organized the first congress in Warsaw.

Prof. Krupiński was the WMC Chairman until 1972.

The WMC is the UN - afilliated organization.

It is run by the permanent secretariat seated in Poland.

THE WORLD MINING CONGRESS

The International Organizing Committee of the World Mining

Congresses is an independent non industry lobbying

organization with the objectives:

• to create awareness of the importance of minerals and reliable

mineral supply for the society

• to promote mining internationally by providing basic information

for the need for mining to the general public

THE WORLD MINING CONGRESS

• to obtain and make available a world-wide exchange of

information with respect to the development of mining science,

technology, economics, health and safety aspects of mining

operations and environmental protection.

• to support scientific and technical co-operation, with

international organisations in the field of mining of all solid

minerals and the development of natural mineral resources

• to facilitate exchange of non commercial mining and

mining industry related information among its members

This is achieved by:

• promoting active interaction and communication between

members of the International Organizing Committee of World

Mining Congress

• assisting with the organization of World Mining Congresses

through:

o establishing and ensuring quality standards for the

organization of World Mining Congresses

o allocating World Mining Congresses to those member

countries that can ensure those standards

o assisting with congress organizers in attracting high quality

scientific and technical contributions

preparing position statements on mining issues concerning

policy makers and the general public

publishing reliable information and data on world mining issues

CONCLUSIONS:

• We are an independent, truly global

and critically pro-mining NGO ( 34 countries )

• We have particularly strong links to all miningcountries of Asia, East, South and Central Asia

CONCLUSIONS:

• We are actively building new relationships with countries all over the world but with Africa and LatinAmerica in particular

• World Mining Data book researched ANNUALLY

by the Austrians is as an excellent but not very well-known source of data and information

CONCLUSIONS:

• We offer cooperation and opportunities for other organisations such as the UNECE and its sub groups

and the responsible mining index to share our networks and benefit from our organisation
