Andreja Bačnik is a Senior Consultant for Chemistry and Coordinator for STEM group at National Education Institute
of Slovenia. Her working and research area is chemical (science) education, particularly active teaching and learning
approaches in chemistry (science), Inquiry Base Learning (IBL), visualisation, ICT and especially chemical safety. She
is additionally educated in toxicology. Over ten years she is actively involved in developing chemical safety in Slovenia,
in incorporation of chemical safety at all levels of pre-university curriculums and implementation of chemical safety at
schools. She was also a short time expert for chemical safety in education for Croatia.
ANTONELLA CARDONE
Executive Director, Fit to Work Global Alliance
Antonella Cardone is Executive Director of the Fit for Work Global Alliance (FfW GA). The FfW GA is a multi-
stakeholder coalition championing change in health and work policy and practice, to benefit people with chronic
health conditions. For over a decade, the FfW GA, led by the Work Foundation (Lancaster University, UK), has
driven change for better lives worldwide.
Prior to joining the FfW GA, Ms Cardone was Director of the Global Smokefree Partnership of the American Cancer
Society, leading a movement of over 100 organisations in support of the development of smokefree laws in 40
countries. She has managed over 30 large EU projects, involving many organisations across all EU member states,
in sectors such as health, employment, social inclusion, human rights, education, training and urban regeneration.
Ms Cardone has also led, among others, projects at the World Heart Federation, The International Union against
Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, and the European League Against Rheumatism.

Chris Demulder is a bachelor nursing and master in medical social science and hospital management.
After his studies, he was working for 2 years as a head nurse. In 1992, he became director of a home for elderly
care in Tongeren. Since 2009 he is managing director of the VitaS company headquarters in Peer, Belgium.
VitaS is an organisation focused on elderly care. With 3 sites, more than 300 residential places, short stay and
elderly daycare, VitaS has developed a wide range of solutions for elderly people who need assistance and / or
residential care.

From her background she is medical doctor, psychotherapist, coach and health care manager.
She has been working in the field of work ability since 1995 and since 2012 is conducting the Austrian Programme
“fit2work Business counselling” for the Austrian government based on the Labour and Health Act from 2011. She is
regularly contributing for EU-OSHA, in workshops, guidelines and so an. She is teaching at the Medical University
(postgraduate work ability and disability management course) and at the Academy for Occupational Health
Medecine. She currently is writing on her next book “Work- and disability management – a guideline for companies”.
JANAR HOLM
Deputy Secretary General on Labour and Employment Policy, Ministry of the Social Affairs (Estonia)
Janar Holm is the Deputy Secretary General on Labour and Employment Policy at the Estonian Ministry of the Social
Affairs. He co-ordinates the Ministry’s issues related to employment, labour market, working environment and
occupational health. Janar Holm has extensive experience in public sector. From 1999 to 2016, he has worked in
various positions in the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, and has also led the National Examination and
Qualification Centre. Janar Holm worked for eight years as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and
Research. Before the first appointment as Secretary General in 2008, he was the Deputy Secretary General for
General and Vocational Education and the Deputy Secretary General for Administrative Region.
He also serves as the member of the supervisory board of the Estonian Qualifications Authority and the Foundation
Innove, which promotes the sectors of general and vocational education and provides career and education
counselling services through the nationwide lifelong guidance network. Janar Holm is the chairman of the Estonian
ILO Council, the member of the Council of Ethics for Officials and the member of the Board of the Estonian National
Opera.

Head of Global Ergonomics Rollout Project, Continental AG
Dipl.- Ing. (FH) Jörg Nimoth, a mechanical design engineer with additional skills in work study, has been working for
several different business units and divisions of Continental AG since 1989. He started as an industrial engineer, then
he worked for more than 20 years as a human relations manager as well as head of plant human relations at several
Continental AG production facilities. Since 2015 he has been the Head of Global Ergonomics Rollout Project for
Continental AG. He is responsible for safeguarding an international ergonomics standard at shop floor workplaces
within the corporation as well as for building-up, maintaining and enhancing ergonomics competences. As a part of
the Continental AG Corporate Safety & Health department, one of the core tasks is to lead and steer the Corporate
Ergonomics International Network. Due to the implementation project of a corporate standard knowledge base in
ergonomics and a special designed software tool for ergonomics risk assessment Continental AG ensures a corporate
wide common understanding of ergonomics. Continental AG promotes this common “Ergonomics Alphabet” within the
community of all plant ergonomics teams as a special key and driver to a high quality experience exchange between
all Continental AG locations around the globe.

Graduated as mechanical engineer at Gödöllő University of Agriculture, later studied development, environmental and
political sciences.
He represents the Hungarian trade unions in the OSH related EU level work; since 2004 (Hungary’s EU accession)
member of the administrative board of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and the EU Advisory
Committee Health and Safety at Work (ACHS) where he actively participates in various working parties. Over the past
years he has been involved in training activities in pre-accession countries and in multinational OSH related projects.
At national level he coordinates the work of the OSH Committee of the Hungarian Trade Union Confederation and is
member of the tripartite National OSH Committee, as well as of the Hungarian Focal Point Network.
Has been working in international environment since 1980: as Secretary of the International Union of Students, later
as International Secretary of the National Confederation of Hungarian Trade Unions (MSZOSZ).
Actively participated throughout Hungary’s EU accession process at national level and in the work of the European
Trade Union Confederation, being member of its Executive Committee and its OSH committee. Since 1992 he attends
the annual conferences and work of the International Labour Organisation. For 15 years was vice president of the
International Federation of Workers Education Association (IFWEA).

Kris De Meester (1966) is first adviser at the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium covering the field of health and
safety at work as well as international social affairs. He holds a degree in chemical and agricultural engineering
(University of Leuven 1989) as well as a master in business administration (University Louvain-La-Neuve 1990) and
special degrees in environmental sciences and safety and health at work.
After having worked 7 years on environmental issues for Unizo, the self-employed and SME organization in Belgium,
Kris joined FEB in 1998 to deal with health, safety and wellbeing at work. In that capacity he now is the employer’s
group spokesperson in the European Commission’s Advisory Committee on Safety and Health at Work. He is the
chairman of the Health and Safety working group of BusinessEurope, the Union of Industrial and Employers
Confederations of Europe. Kris is also a member of the governing board and the bureau of the European Agency for
Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA Bilbao), the governing board of the European Foundation for the Improvement
of Living and Working Conditions (Dublin), the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO Geneva),
the Governing Body of the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin, the GOSH (Global OSH network of the
International Organisation of Employers), the National Council for Prevention and Protection at Work in Belgium and
the National Council the Protection against Fire and Explosion in Belgium.
He is also CEO of the organization Contractor Safety Management that operates B2B contractor safety management
schemes in Belgium (BeSaCC: Belgian Safety Criteria for Contractors and VCA-SCC: Safety health and environment
Checklist Contractors) with approximately 3000 certified companies and 100.000 workers and supervisors trained on
a yearly base.
Kris is president of Blocks, a company providing innovative high impact safety training videos and training platforms
for business and vice-president of ANPI fire and intrusion protection agency.
Kris also runs a business of his own (Bizz-Con Inc.) delivering support, guidance, training and the organisation of
projects and company events in the fields of health and safety, well-being at work, environment, human resources
management, industrial relations, creativity, innovation and networking.
Together with a partner he’s in charge of KY2, a company active in the development, management and distribution of

Director General of the Estonian Labour Inspectorate
Maret Maripuu is the Director General of the Estonian Labour Inspectorate since 2014.
She received the Master’s degree in Law in the Academy Nord and the Master´s degree in Public Health in Tartu
University.
During her bachelor´s degree studies at the Academy Nord, she also worked in customer service, and later as a
consultant of the Reform Party Faction in the Parliament of Estonia, called Riigikogu, from 1994-1999.
In 1999, her active political career started by being elected a member of the Riigikogu where she worked for 15 years
and participated in the work of different committees, and one year she was as the first Vice-President of the Riigikogu.
In 2007-2009 Maret Maripuu was a member of the Estonian Government and worked as the Minister of Social Affairs.
She was also active in the local municipality being a member of Tallinn City Council in 1999-2007, and from 2001 to
2005 she was the Chairman of Tallinn City Council.
She has also delivered lectures on labour law and constitutional law in the private university of Nord and Tallinn
University.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, classical music, theatre and yoga.

Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm
Professor Maria Albin, is a physician and specialist in occupational and environmental medicine. She coordinated the
research centre Medicine and Technology for Working Life and Society at Lund University 2007-2016. She is currently
head of the Stockholm occupational and environmental medicine clinic, and full professor of occupational and
environmental medicine at the Unit of Occupational Medicine, Institute for Environmental Medicine, Karolinska
Institutet, Stockholm.
She currently directs two major research programs, Enabling participation, health and well-being of ageing workers:

Marianne Thyssen is Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility. Her portfolio includes
overseeing European Union policy on employment, social affairs, vocational training, skills, labour market reforms and
social inclusion, including workplace equality legislation. She is also responsible for the statistical office of the
European Union (Eurostat). She studied Law at the Catholic University of Leuven where she had her first job at the

Marta Urrutia, graduate in Pedagogy by the University of Deusto in 1988 and certified expert in Occupational Safety
and Health (OSH) since 1991, is the Corporate Promotions Manager in the Communication and Promotion Unit at
the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) since September 2008, after having worked for EU-
OSHA as a project manager for 7 years.
She had previously worked for 9 years as OSH expert at the Spanish National Institute for Safety, Health and
Wellbeing at Work.
Coordinator of an editorial and media team, her main focus nowadays is communicating and raising awareness on
occupational safety and health, on EU-OSHA’s work and on its projects, products and services, not only among the
OSH community but also among EU citizens and general public.
For this purpose, the communication and promotion actions undertaken under her coordination use both traditional
channels and tools (website, publications, press office) as well as lighter and fresher ones (such as Napo and film
screenings and debates).
She also liaises with Spanish and local authorities and stakeholders in the field of OSH and she regularly contributes

PETER POGAČAR
State Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Slovenia
Peter Pogačar was born on 13 November 1973 in Ljubljana. He holds a university degree in law and has passed the
state bar examination. Peter began his professional career at the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs (MDDSZ)
and continued it at the Ljubljana Higher Court. From 2001 to 2004, he worked as an adviser to the Government of the
Republic of Slovenia at MDDSZ, where his responsibilities included the development of supplementary pension
insurance.
In 2004 he took up the job of advisor to the management of Kapitalska družba pokojninskega in invalidskega
zavarovanja (Pension and Disability Fund Management), and later became the manager of the Pension Insurance
Department. His responsibilities at the mentioned company were focused on the field of pension funds managed by
Kapitalska družba. From 2009 to 2015, Peter was Director-General of the Directorate for Employment Relationships
and Rights Deriving from Employment at the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. During
this period he was an expert coordinator for the drafting of the pension and labour market reforms that were
implemented in 2013. In the international field, he was a key partner of the OECD and the European Commission in
the dialogue concerning the proposed orientations and the monitoring of adopted measures in view of the
recommendations from the Ministry.
He regularly lectures or participates in round tables at numerous international and national conferences focusing on
the pension system and labour market, and has co-authored several books and articles about pension and labour
market legislation.
State secretary Peter Pogačar is married and has two children, and lives with his family in Ljubljana.
On 20 February 2015, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed Peter Pogačar a state secretary at the

Rebekah Smith is Senior Adviser in the Social Affairs department of BUSINESSEUROPE, with responsibility for Social
Protection and Inclusion, Health and Safety, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She has been working at
BUSINESSEUROPE for eight years and in the field of EU affairs for fifteen years. She is a member of the European
Pensions Forum and the CSR Multistakeholder Forum coordination committee, and is responsible for
BUSINESSEUROPE’s liaison with the EU Social Protection Committee. She coordinates employer members of the
Advisory Committee on Safety and Health, of the Advisory Committee on Coordination of Social Security, and of the

Sander van Leeuwen, is program manager Sustainable Employability at the Dutch ministry of Social Affairs and
Employment.
After finishing his master degree (2010) in social and organisational psychology, Sander started as a trainee at the
ministry. In 2013 he started at the program Sustainable Employability, where he, among other things, worked on
campaigns on sustainable employability towards employers and employees and work related stress. The topic of work related stress contained different campaigns on workload, bullying and other undesirable behaviour at work.
Sander made his debut as a novelist in 2015, with the novel Rather no applause before I live (Liever geen applaus voor ik leef). He is married and has two kids.

Wellbeing manager, Lujatalo (Finland)
Sari Tiainen is working as wellbeing manager at Lujatalo. The company acts in the construction industry area almost
throughout the Finland. The personnel is approximately 750 and the turnover is about 370 M€.
Sari Tiainen has education of physiotherapist (1991), Master of Sciences (ergonomics, 2004) and supervisor (2017).
She has specialized in musculosceletal diseases (international certification in MDT) and has long working experience
in occupational health care (Medivire and Terveystalo), specially in preventative work. She has also worked as a
researcher in University of Eastern Finland.
Sari with her teams have developed several types of health promotion actions at workplaces such as Lujavire-actions
on building sites at Lujatalo. The action aims at reducing the work load, musculosceletal symptoms and sick leaves.
Also it improves the safety and the business. Lujavire received EU-OSHAs Commeded entry in Good Practises
competition in Dublin 2013. After that Lujavire data bank was born in 2015 and Lujavire mobile application in 2017.
Preventive care and working capacity management is one of Sari’s specialities. It requires close cooperation with
supervisors, occupational health care and pension insurance company.

STEPHEN BEVAN
Institute for Employment Studies
Stephen Bevan is Head of HR Research Development at IES with responsibility for developing innovative new projects
and programmes with IES partners and other collaborators. Stephen returned to IES in April 2016 after spending 15
years as Director of Research and Managing Director at The Work Foundation.
Stephen has conducted research and consultancy on high-performance work practices, employee reward strategy,
performance management, workforce ageing, staff engagement and retention, and 'good work'. He has a special
interest in workforce health and wellbeing, having led a number of national and international projects focusing on
workforce health and the impact of chronic illness on productivity and social inclusion. He is the Project Director of a
major impact evaluation project for the Work & Health Joint Unit which is tracking the progress of health-led trials for
people with mental health and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Stephen is an advisor to a number of UK government departments and has advised employers and policymakers in
Europe, Asia-Pacific, Australasia and North America. He has received a special award from GAMIAN-Europe for his
contribution to the field of mental health and employment and is a reviewer for several academic journals, including
The Lancet. Stephen is a regular columnist for HR Magazine, a judge at the Global Healthy Workplace Awards and
an advisor the government’s Mental Health & Employment Review. He is a Board Member of the European HR
Director’s Circle and a member of the Britain’s Healthiest Company expert advisory group. In 2016 Stephen was voted
the UK’s 2nd Most Influential HR Thinker by HR Magazine. He also co-authored a chapter on workforce ageing &
health in the latest Chief Medical Officer’s report. He has been an Honorary Professor at Lancaster University
Management School since 2010.

Affairs has been working on a wide range of tasks concerning active labour market policies in Norway. She currently
works on three main tasks; labour market policies to reduce youth unemployment, the Ministry´s management of The
Labour and Welfare Directorate (The Public Employment Services), and The agreement on a more inclusive working
life (the IA Agreement) agreed upon by the authorities, employees and employers in Norway (2001-2018).

Vladka Komel

Vladka Komel graduated from the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. She has been working for the
Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the Republic of Slovenia since 1987. During this
period of time she was responsible for international cooperation in the area of International Labour Organisation,
active labour market policy – while since 2003 she works as the Slovenian EU-OSHA Focal Point Manager. She is a
coordinator of the national OSH awareness raising campaigns and projects. Vladka is also a member of the
Governing Board of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, and an
alternate member of the Governing Board of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.
WIKING HUSBERG
Ministerial Advisor on OSH, Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
Wiking Husberg is a Ministerial Advisor on OSH in the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Dept of OSH. He
started working with OSH in 1973 as a safety engineer with the Finnish Government in the National Board of Labour protection. He has cooperated with the Nordic and European countries concerning machine safety, standardisation
and market surveillance. Consultancy work has taken him in the 80’ies to the Eastern European countries, which now
has joined the EU. He was CTA with the ILO in English-speaking Africa and Team Leader with the European Union/TACIS in Russia in the 90’ies. He spent nine years as the Senior occupational safety and health specialist in
Moscow with the ILO Subregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia before returning to the ministry in Finland in 2012.

ANDREJA BAČNIK
Senior Consultant at National Education Institute Slovenia
Andreja Bačnik is a Senior Consultant for Chemistry and Coordinator for STEM group at National Education Institute
of Slovenia. Her working and research area is chemical (science) education, particularly active teaching and learning
approaches in chemistry (science), Inquiry Base Learning (IBL), visualisation, ICT and especially chemical safety. She
is additionally educated in toxicology. Over ten years she is actively involved in developing chemical safety in Slovenia,
in incorporation of chemical safety at all levels of pre-university curriculums and implementation of chemical safety at
schools. She was also a short time expert for chemical safety in education for Croatia.
ANTONELLA CARDONE
Executive Director, Fit to Work Global Alliance
Antonella Cardone is Executive Director of the Fit for Work Global Alliance (FfW GA). The FfW GA is a multi-
stakeholder coalition championing change in health and work policy and practice, to benefit people with chronic
health conditions. For over a decade, the FfW GA, led by the Work Foundation (Lancaster University, UK), has
driven change for better lives worldwide.
Prior to joining the FfW GA, Ms Cardone was Director of the Global Smokefree Partnership of the American Cancer
Society, leading a movement of over 100 organisations in support of the development of smokefree laws in 40
countries. She has managed over 30 large EU projects, involving many organisations across all EU member states,
in sectors such as health, employment, social inclusion, human rights, education, training and urban regeneration.
Ms Cardone has also led, among others, projects at the World Heart Federation, The International Union against
Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, and the European League Against Rheumatism.

JANAR HOLM
Deputy Secretary General on Labour and Employment Policy, Ministry of the Social Affairs (Estonia)
Janar Holm is the Deputy Secretary General on Labour and Employment Policy at the Estonian Ministry of the Social
Affairs. He co-ordinates the Ministry’s issues related to employment, labour market, working environment and
occupational health. Janar Holm has extensive experience in public sector. From 1999 to 2016, he has worked in
various positions in the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, and has also led the National Examination and
Qualification Centre. Janar Holm worked for eight years as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and
Research. Before the first appointment as Secretary General in 2008, he was the Deputy Secretary General for
General and Vocational Education and the Deputy Secretary General for Administrative Region.
He also serves as the member of the supervisory board of the Estonian Qualifications Authority and the Foundation
Innove, which promotes the sectors of general and vocational education and provides career and education
counselling services through the nationwide lifelong guidance network. Janar Holm is the chairman of the Estonian
ILO Council, the member of the Council of Ethics for Officials and the member of the Board of the Estonian National

Head of Global Ergonomics Rollout Project, Continental AG
Dipl.- Ing. (FH) Jörg Nimoth, a mechanical design engineer with additional skills in work study, has been working for
several different business units and divisions of Continental AG since 1989. He started as an industrial engineer, then
he worked for more than 20 years as a human relations manager as well as head of plant human relations at several
Continental AG production facilities. Since 2015 he has been the Head of Global Ergonomics Rollout Project for
Continental AG. He is responsible for safeguarding an international ergonomics standard at shop floor workplaces
within the corporation as well as for building-up, maintaining and enhancing ergonomics competences. As a part of
the Continental AG Corporate Safety & Health department, one of the core tasks is to lead and steer the Corporate
Ergonomics International Network. Due to the implementation project of a corporate standard knowledge base in
ergonomics and a special designed software tool for ergonomics risk assessment Continental AG ensures a corporate
wide common understanding of ergonomics. Continental AG promotes this common “Ergonomics Alphabet” within the
community of all plant ergonomics teams as a special key and driver to a high quality experience exchange between
all Continental AG locations around the globe.

member of the administrative board of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and the EU Advisory
Committee Health and Safety at Work (ACHS) where he actively participates in various working parties. Over the past
years he has been involved in training activities in pre-accession countries and in multinational OSH related projects.
At national level he coordinates the work of the OSH Committee of the Hungarian Trade Union Confederation and is
member of the tripartite National OSH Committee, as well as of the Hungarian Focal Point Network.
Has been working in international environment since 1980: as Secretary of the International Union of Students, later
as International Secretary of the National Confederation of Hungarian Trade Unions (MSZOSZ).
Actively participated throughout Hungary’s EU accession process at national level and in the work of the European
Trade Union Confederation, being member of its Executive Committee and its OSH committee. Since 1992 he attends
the annual conferences and work of the International Labour Organisation. For 15 years was vice president of the
International Federation of Workers Education Association (IFWEA).

Kris De Meester (1966) is first adviser at the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium covering the field of health and
safety at work as well as international social affairs. He holds a degree in chemical and agricultural engineering

special degrees in environmental sciences and safety and health at work.
After having worked 7 years on environmental issues for Unizo, the self-employed and SME organization in Belgium,

Director General of the Estonian Labour Inspectorate
Maret Maripuu is the Director General of the Estonian Labour Inspectorate since 2014.
She received the Master’s degree in Law in the Academy Nord and the Master´s degree in Public Health in Tartu
University.
During her bachelor´s degree studies at the Academy Nord, she also worked in customer service, and later as a
consultant of the Reform Party Faction in the Parliament of Estonia, called Riigikogu, from 1994-1999.
In 1999, her active political career started by being elected a member of the Riigikogu where she worked for 15 years
and participated in the work of different committees, and one year she was as the first Vice-President of the Riigikogu.
In 2007-2009 Maret Maripuu was a member of the Estonian Government and worked as the Minister of Social Affairs.
She was also active in the local municipality being a member of Tallinn City Council in 1999-2007, and from 2001 to
2005 she was the Chairman of Tallinn City Council.
She has also delivered lectures on labour law and constitutional law in the private university of Nord and Tallinn
University.

Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm
Professor Maria Albin, is a physician and specialist in occupational and environmental medicine. She coordinated the
research centre Medicine and Technology for Working Life and Society at Lund University 2007-2016. She is currently
head of the Stockholm occupational and environmental medicine clinic, and full professor of occupational and
environmental medicine at the Unit of Occupational Medicine, Institute for Environmental Medicine, Karolinska
Institutet, Stockholm.

Marianne Thyssen is Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility. Her portfolio includes

social inclusion, including workplace equality legislation. She is also responsible for the statistical office of the
European Union (Eurostat). She studied Law at the Catholic University of Leuven where she had her first job at the

Marta Urrutia, graduate in Pedagogy by the University of Deusto in 1988 and certified expert in Occupational Safety
and Health (OSH) since 1991, is the Corporate Promotions Manager in the Communication and Promotion Unit at
the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) since September 2008, after having worked for EU-
OSHA as a project manager for 7 years.
She had previously worked for 9 years as OSH expert at the Spanish National Institute for Safety, Health and
Wellbeing at Work.
Coordinator of an editorial and media team, her main focus nowadays is communicating and raising awareness on
occupational safety and health, on EU-OSHA’s work and on its projects, products and services, not only among the

PETER POGAČAR
State Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Slovenia
Peter Pogačar was born on 13 November 1973 in Ljubljana. He holds a university degree in law and has passed the
state bar examination. Peter began his professional career at the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs (MDDSZ)
and continued it at the Ljubljana Higher Court. From 2001 to 2004, he worked as an adviser to the Government of the
Republic of Slovenia at MDDSZ, where his responsibilities included the development of supplementary pension
insurance.
In 2004 he took up the job of advisor to the management of Kapitalska družba pokojninskega in invalidskega
zavarovanja (Pension and Disability Fund Management), and later became the manager of the Pension Insurance
Department. His responsibilities at the mentioned company were focused on the field of pension funds managed by
Kapitalska družba. From 2009 to 2015, Peter was Director-General of the Directorate for Employment Relationships
and Rights Deriving from Employment at the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. During
this period he was an expert coordinator for the drafting of the pension and labour market reforms that were
implemented in 2013. In the international field, he was a key partner of the OECD and the European Commission in
the dialogue concerning the proposed orientations and the monitoring of adopted measures in view of the
recommendations from the Ministry.
He regularly lectures or participates in round tables at numerous international and national conferences focusing on
the pension system and labour market, and has co-authored several books and articles about pension and labour
market legislation.
State secretary Peter Pogačar is married and has two children, and lives with his family in Ljubljana.
On 20 February 2015, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed Peter Pogačar a state secretary at the
Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.

Peter Rimmer is a freelance writer, photographer and communications specialist who was Director of Communications
with the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for 16 years until the end of 2003. He was campaign manager at the
European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) in Bilbao from 2005 to 2007, and has moderated
numerous technical workshops and seminars for EU-OSHA including 'Successful campaign planning’. Peter was
editor of Health Protection Matters for five years, a quarterly magazine published by the UK Health Protection Agency,
and chairs the juries of the International Media Festival of the ISSA/ILO World Congress and the Healthy Workplaces
Award at the annual DOK Leipzig Documentary Film Festival. He is a founder and coordinator of the Napo series of

REBEKAH SMITH

Rebekah Smith is Senior Adviser in the Social Affairs department of BUSINESSEUROPE, with responsibility for Social
Protection and Inclusion, Health and Safety, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She has been working at
BUSINESSEUROPE for eight years and in the field of EU affairs for fifteen years. She is a member of the European
Pensions Forum and the CSR Multistakeholder Forum coordination committee, and is responsible for
BUSINESSEUROPE’s liaison with the EU Social Protection Committee. She coordinates employer members of the
Advisory Committee on Safety and Health, of the Advisory Committee on Coordination of Social Security, and of the
board of the Bilbao Agency for Health and Safety. Previously she was Policy and Communications Manager for a
Brussels-based consultancy specialised in assisting UK SME representatives to be active on EU policy, as well as
working for the EU Representation office of a UK region. Rebekah has a Master's degree in European Studies and
studied at Hull University in the UK and Osnabrueck University in Germany.

SANDER VAN LEEUWEN

Sander van Leeuwen, is program manager Sustainable Employability at the Dutch ministry of Social Affairs and
Employment.
After finishing his master degree (2010) in social and organisational psychology, Sander started as a trainee at the
ministry. In 2013 he started at the program Sustainable Employability, where he, among other things, worked on
campaigns on sustainable employability towards employers and employees and work related stress. The topic of work related stress contained different campaigns on workload, bullying and other undesirable behaviour at work.
Sander made his debut as a novelist in 2015, with the novel Rather no applause before I live (Liever geen applaus voor ik leef). He is married and has two kids.
SARI TIAINEN
Wellbeing manager, Lujatalo (Finland)
Sari Tiainen is working as wellbeing manager at Lujatalo. The company acts in the construction industry area almost
throughout the Finland. The personnel is approximately 750 and the turnover is about 370 M€.
Sari Tiainen has education of physiotherapist (1991), Master of Sciences (ergonomics, 2004) and supervisor (2017).
She has specialized in musculosceletal diseases (international certification in MDT) and has long working experience
in occupational health care (Medivire and Terveystalo), specially in preventative work. She has also worked as a
researcher in University of Eastern Finland.
Sari with her teams have developed several types of health promotion actions at workplaces such as Lujavire-actions
on building sites at Lujatalo. The action aims at reducing the work load, musculosceletal symptoms and sick leaves.
Also it improves the safety and the business. Lujavire received EU-OSHAs Commeded entry in Good Practises
competition in Dublin 2013. After that Lujavire data bank was born in 2015 and Lujavire mobile application in 2017.
Preventive care and working capacity management is one of Sari’s specialities. It requires close cooperation with
supervisors, occupational health care and pension insurance company.

Stephen Bevan is Head of HR Research Development at IES with responsibility for developing innovative new projects
and programmes with IES partners and other collaborators. Stephen returned to IES in April 2016 after spending 15
years as Director of Research and Managing Director at The Work Foundation.
Stephen has conducted research and consultancy on high-performance work practices, employee reward strategy,
performance management, workforce ageing, staff engagement and retention, and 'good work'. He has a special
interest in workforce health and wellbeing, having led a number of national and international projects focusing on
workforce health and the impact of chronic illness on productivity and social inclusion. He is the Project Director of a
major impact evaluation project for the Work & Health Joint Unit which is tracking the progress of health-led trials for
people with mental health and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Stephen is an advisor to a number of UK government departments and has advised employers and policymakers in
Europe, Asia-Pacific, Australasia and North America. He has received a special award from GAMIAN-Europe for his
contribution to the field of mental health and employment and is a reviewer for several academic journals, including
The Lancet. Stephen is a regular columnist for HR Magazine, a judge at the Global Healthy Workplace Awards and
an advisor the government’s Mental Health & Employment Review. He is a Board Member of the European HR
Director’s Circle and a member of the Britain’s Healthiest Company expert advisory group. In 2016 Stephen was voted
the UK’s 2nd Most Influential HR Thinker by HR Magazine. He also co-authored a chapter on workforce ageing &
health in the latest Chief Medical Officer’s report. He has been an Honorary Professor at Lancaster University
Management School since 2010.

Trude Eliassen, Senior Adviser, The Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social affairs, Department of Labour Market
Affairs has been working on a wide range of tasks concerning active labour market policies in Norway. She currently
works on three main tasks; labour market policies to reduce youth unemployment, the Ministry´s management of The
Labour and Welfare Directorate (The Public Employment Services), and The agreement on a more inclusive working
life (the IA Agreement) agreed upon by the authorities, employees and employers in Norway (2001-2018).
Earlier she has worked on several key policy documents such as, a "white paper regarding the role of The Norwegian
Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV)", "The White paper on Work, Welfare and Inclusion", "The Jobs Strategy for
People with Disabilities" and "The follow up plan for work and mental health".

Vladka Komel
Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (Slovenia)
Vladka Komel graduated from the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. She has been working for the
Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the Republic of Slovenia since 1987. During this
period of time she was responsible for international cooperation in the area of International Labour Organisation,
active labour market policy – while since 2003 she works as the Slovenian EU-OSHA Focal Point Manager. She is a
coordinator of the national OSH awareness raising campaigns and projects. Vladka is also a member of the
Governing Board of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, and an
alternate member of the Governing Board of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.
WIKING HUSBERG
Ministerial Advisor on OSH, Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
Wiking Husberg is a Ministerial Advisor on OSH in the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Dept of OSH. He
started working with OSH in 1973 as a safety engineer with the Finnish Government in the National Board of Labour protection. He has cooperated with the Nordic and European countries concerning machine safety, standardisation
and market surveillance. Consultancy work has taken him in the 80’ies to the Eastern European countries, which now
has joined the EU. He was CTA with the ILO in English-speaking Africa and Team Leader with the European Union/TACIS in Russia in the 90’ies. He spent nine years as the Senior occupational safety and health specialist in
Moscow with the ILO Subregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia before returning to the ministry in Finland in 2012.

the Protection of Competition.
Currently is Mr. Zmatlík, as Deputy of Minister of the Interior, Chairman of the Management Board of the Health
Insurance Company of the Ministry of Interior and also Member of the Supervisory Board of the National Agency for
Communications and Information Technology (State Enterprise).
Given that the Service Facility is in direct subordination to the Deputy Minister of the Interior, its competencies
include, among others, the Optima Project, which is highly supported by him, and also the Healthy Workplace
Project. As Member of Government Council for Safety and Health at Work, Mr. Zmatlík is also responsible for the
issues of safety and health protection at work of the Ministry of the Interior.
ANDREJA BAČNIK
Senior Consultant at National Education Institute Slovenia
Andreja Bačnik is a Senior Consultant for Chemistry and Coordinator for STEM group at National Education Institute
of Slovenia. Her working and research area is chemical (science) education, particularly active teaching and learning
approaches in chemistry (science), Inquiry Base Learning (IBL), visualisation, ICT and especially chemical safety. She
is additionally educated in toxicology. Over ten years she is actively involved in developing chemical safety in Slovenia,
in incorporation of chemical safety at all levels of pre-university curriculums and implementation of chemical safety at
schools. She was also a short time expert for chemical safety in education for Croatia.
ANTONELLA CARDONE
Executive Director, Fit to Work Global Alliance
Antonella Cardone is Executive Director of the Fit for Work Global Alliance (FfW GA). The FfW GA is a multi-
stakeholder coalition championing change in health and work policy and practice, to benefit people with chronic
health conditions. For over a decade, the FfW GA, led by the Work Foundation (Lancaster University, UK), has
driven change for better lives worldwide.
Prior to joining the FfW GA, Ms Cardone was Director of the Global Smokefree Partnership of the American Cancer
Society, leading a movement of over 100 organisations in support of the development of smokefree laws in 40
countries. She has managed over 30 large EU projects, involving many organisations across all EU member states,
in sectors such as health, employment, social inclusion, human rights, education, training and urban regeneration.
Ms Cardone has also led, among others, projects at the World Heart Federation, The International Union against
Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, and the European League Against Rheumatism.
