ANNOUNCEMENTS- NOTES SCHEDULE/ROUTINE NOTES: NEW COMMAND STAFF- You will see in this POM, the new Command Staff that was appointed by the Squadron CC in December is now reflected in this Plan of the Month. Please take note of the changes in the Chain of Command. HEADS UP- UNIFORM NOTE- Unless otherwise specified, outside of the 1

st Thursday meeting of the month, the Uniform of the

Day for weekly meetings during the Winter Months for all members is in effect. Please wear your BDU’s with the same pride and

professionalism as your AF blues. WINTER WEATHER NOTE- During winter weather events, we will follow the Joint Base Andrews and Office of Personnel Management guidance in regards to base opening/closing during winter weather. If there has been no call by JBA or OPM about

winter weather prior to the meeting, the Commander reserves the right to use the “common sense standard” for determining

whether a meeting or event will proceed. Since the weather varies across the DMV, please use your best judgment for travel in winter conditions to our meetings and activities. SAFETY FIRST!!! OPERATIONS NOTES:

ACS JBA O-FLIGHT DAY 14 MAR- Our “notional” flight schedule for flight operations will begin in March, with the first cadet

orientation flight day on the 14th of March. Details are being worked between the squadron, NATCAPWG and the 89

th AW, but

standby for further details. Additionally, we are planning on expanding flight operations to support adult member pilot proficiency and aircrew (scanner/observer/photographer) training. SUI CORNER: Meetings with program officers were conducted in January, the race to prepare for the inspection has begun. Although many of you are not program officers, the SUI involves everyone in the squadron. In February, the SUI will be formally introduced to the squadron; one-on-one meeting with the Commander to discuss preparation are forthcoming.

ACTIVITIES NOTES: NATCAP WING CONFERENCE- The National Capitol Wing Conference is scheduled for 28 March. The conference will be held at the ANG Readiness Center on Joint Base Andrews; the Wing Awards Banquet will be held at the Officer’s Club on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. The Wing Conference information and registration site is here: http://acab.natcapwg.cap.gov/ If there are enough members who are planning on attending the banquet, we will try to get an “ACS” table at the dinner. WILDERNESS TRAINING- The Wilderness First Aid course will help you prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of Ground Team members working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and

ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. Learning will take place in an outdoor setting regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments. Dates TBA. CADET PROGRAMS NOTES: TRI WING ENCAMPMENT 3-12 JUL 2015 - The CAP encampment is the most significant, worthwhile training experience for a CAP cadet. It is a week long basic training-like program and is required for the General Billy Mitchell Award, or participation in NCSAs. Encampment is designed to develop a greater understanding of CAP and Air Force missions and capabilities, personal and team leadership, and teamwork. The 2015 TWE will be held at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The registration link is located here (NOTE not active for 2015 registrations at this time—bookmark it): http://triwing.org/registration.php

ADULT MEMBER TRAINING NOTES: SATURDAY MONTHLY SENIOR MEETING- The Squadron Commander has made the decision to permanently eliminate the separate senior/adult member meeting on the third Saturday of the month. It was an idea that had merit but ended up having sparse support (in regards to attendance). The senior meeting schedule will be incorporated into the regular Thursday meeting schedule; please be prepared to support the planned activities and briefings for adult members on Thursdays. CLC TRAINING OPPORTUNITY- The National Capital Wing's annual Corporate Leadership Course will be held on 21-22 Feb 15 at the Wing Headquarters in Washington DC. Please review the course and sign up at the link below. The objective of Corporate Learning Course (CLC) is to develop a knowledgeable corporate citizen who can contribute effectively to CAP missions in a team environment. As outlined in CAPR 50-17, adult members taking part in CLC and should have completed Squadron Leadership School and be learning about squadron operations. The course itself normally occurs over successive days but can be scheduled to meet the need of wing members keeping in mind the minimum 12.5 total hour requirement. To fulfill the course’s overall goal, the curriculum is organized into two blocks of instruction. They are: Corporate Citizenship and Teambuilding. The objectives and desired student outcomes are detailed along with the other information about that particular class at the corresponding section in this guide.

This course is a requirement for Level III in Civil Air Patrol and cannot be substituted by any Professional Military Education (PME) course. The registration link is here: http://www.expressplanner.com/eem/event.html?eventId=ff8081814a0cbd8f014b21c21aa609c3 SAFETY NOTE:

FROM THE COMMANDER HAPPY NEW YEAR, Andrews Composite Squadron—we have already hit the ground running in 2015! In January, we had a successful and well-attended Parents Night and Open House, and I received very positive feedback on the program. Thanks to Captain Pritchard and his team for a well-planned and executed program. WELL DONE. Your Command Staff spent the last month finalizing and submitting our top performing members for nomination of Wing recognition. Our goal was to submit a nomination for every unit and individual award we could qualify for, and we accomplished that. The packages will be boarded over the next two months and winners announced before the NATCAP Wing Conference at the end of March. Additionally, I briefed the squadron on our 2015 Strategic Plan at the end of last month, which is my vision and plan for the direction of our unit this calendar year. I want to capitalize on all the great work and accomplishments we had in 2014 while taking us to the next level with new and exciting goals and activities. It is an aggressive plan, but I believe that with the positive and “can do” attitude of this unit, we will achieve and surpass the goals that we have set for our unit. This year has the potential for “great expectations.” Does this unit have the potential to become the “Flagship Unit” and Squadron of Merit of NATCAPWG? ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY YES. I truly believe that each and every one of you possesses the drive and commitment to make us the “best of the best” of Civil Air Patrol units. I have decided to make a significant change to our recruiting and retention strategy in 2015. We have done well in recruiting and retaining great members of this unit since I took command without a single recruiting drive, but, I would like to embark on an aggressive growth strategy in 2015. So, I am authorizing the use of recruiting tables at events to try to bring new members to the unit and Civil Air Patrol. We will kick off our recruiting and growth efforts at the JBA Teen Expo and Social on the 13

th of February.

Capt Horton and CMSgt Inoa have the lead for this effort…we want those members who can tell the “CAP Story” and present a sharp appearance in uniform to be our ambassadors to potential new members of Civil Air Patrol. If you like being in CAP and Andrews Squadron and believe a friend or colleague would benefit from membership in CAP, then use the Facebook strategy of recruiting, “like” and “share.” As I always say, “If you want to see the results you have to do the work.” I’m looking forward to seeing the results of your hard work and enthusiasm in 2015! Thank you all for your continued service to CAP and our squadron. BRYAN A. PETTIGREW, Major, CAP Commander
