Lions, Lionesses, and Leos

I attended a successful 99th annual Lions Clubs International Convention in Fukuoka, Japan, from June 20, 2016, through June 28, 2016. I spent the first 3 days in training with other District Governor Elects (DGEs) and absorbed considerable information pertaining to the goals the members of our worldwide Multiple District clubs should strive to accomplish. I will provide more details in future issues of the Announcer.

Here are some early important 2016-2017 dates you should add to your calendars:

Sunday, August 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM –

We will hold our first Cabinet meeting in Montgomery County at the Evansburg UM Church, 3871 Germantown Pike, Collegeville, PA 19426. The dress code will be Lions Casual. No Green Jackets. My intent is to hold our 4 Cabinet meetings in each of the 4 counties that comprise District 14A.

Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM -

Banner Night will be held at the Eddington Room, 1444 Brown Avenue, Bensalem, PA 19020. A Banner Night registration form with additional information should be included in the current Announcer.

President Robert Corlewʼs theme for the 2016-2017 Lions Year is NEW MOUNTAINS TO CLIMB. Please join me as we find our own “New Mountains to Climb” while we serve our District 14A Clubs and communities.

I trust youʼre having an enjoyable summer.

District Governor James (Jim) Beermann

Iʼd like to introduce myself to the Lions of District 14A who may not know who their 2nd VDG for 2016-17 is. Iʼve been a Lion for fifteen years as a member of the South Philadelphia Lions Club. Having served in various capacities within my Club, including four years as President, and a Zone Chair for five years, I think I have gained knowledge of the workings of our District. Of course I have much more to learn! Since the May PA State Convention I have been reviewing information I received there and am planning on attending the PA State Council Meeting in the beginning of August where my learning will continue. I plan on accompanying DG Jim on several of his Club visitations this year and I look forward to meeting many Lions of District 14A.

As a Zone Chair I know how important the information I gathered from my Clubs was to the DG and the Cabinet. It allows them to know whatʼs happening in our District and become aware of successes or any potential problems a Club is having. I ask that you cooperate with your Zone Chairs and forward your Clubʼs news, service activities, fundraisers, and membership numbersto them. Please donʼt feel that because your Club may be a small one that activities you may be involved in are unimportant. Remember that although we are a global service organization, ʻWe Serveʼ together in small groups to better our communities. Another request I have is that Club Secretaries forward your membersʼ emails to PDG Harrington to allow each to receive The Announcer and learn about whatʼs happening in District 14A. Send these addresses to [email protected].

On a personal note, I have been married to my husband Don for 37 years and have two children and a two-week old granddaughter. I am still working with no retirement in sight, but my work schedule is flexible enough to allow me to give time to my Lionsʼ work. Don will be succeeding me as Zone Chair for the S/W Phila. Zone, Region A.

Rita R. DiAntonio, 2nd Vice-District Governor

2nd Vice-District Governorʼs Message

When a member of your Club dies please let the District Governor Team be aware of the death. This includes District Governor, 1st Vice District Governor and 2nd Vice District Governor.

A card will be sent to the family if unable to attend the funeral.

UPDATE FOR PDG Ken Moore: new email is [email protected].
