OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE | SOUTH HUTCHINSON, KS

The apostles begin to believe in Him because of this miracle, but there is a deeper meaning at Cana. When did this miracle take place? “On the THIRD day, there was a marriage at Cana.” Moses went up the mountain, and on the THIRD day there was light-ning and thunder. Jesus rose from the dead on the THIRD day.

At Cana God rst revealed himself in a way that carries forward the events of the OT. Jesus takes the old and makes it new. He takes simple water and gives a new wine of joy. He begins a new relationship with the people who are espoused to God. The people of Israel and their very land were understood as the spouse of God. “For the Lord delights in you and makes your land his spouse.” (Is 62:4) In the middle of this wedding, God rejoices in his bride, Israel, and Jesus begins his ministry. The wedding is a nuptial feast which mirrors the union that Our Lord wishes to have with us. The nuptial blessing at a wedding express this. “O God, who consecrated the bond of Marriage by so great a mystery that in the covenant you foreshadowed the Sacrament of Christ and His Church.” In the wedding at Cana, Jesus takes what is ordinary and brings great bless-ings through it. The blessing was immense. Yet, this is all a beginning. The HOUR which Jesus tells his mother will arrive at the cross. Christ achieves that nuptial union when He offers his life as the sacri cial lamb on the cross. That is the HOUR, the moment of total self-giving when Christ espouses himself to us, his bride, the Church.

"Porque el Señor se ha complacido en ti y se ha desposado con tu tierra, su esposa". (Is 62:4) En medio de esta boda, Dios se regocija en su novia, Israel, y Jesús comienza su ministerio. La boda es una esta nupcial que refleja la unión que Nuestro Señor desea tener con no-sotros. La bendición nupcial en una boda expresa esto. "Oh Dios, que consagró el vínculo del matrimonio por un misterio tan grande que en la alianza presagiaste el Sacra-mento de Cristo y su Iglesia". En las bodas de Caná, Jesús toma lo que es ordinario y trae grandes bendiciones a través de él. La bendición fue inmensa. Sin embargo, todo esto es un comienzo. La HORA que Jesús le dice a su madre llegará a la cruz. Cristo logra esa unión nupcial cuando ofrece su vida como el cordero sacri cial en la cruz. Esa es la HORA, el momento de entrega total cuando Cristo se abraza a nosotros, su esposa, la Iglesia.
