St. Gregory the Great
Mission Statement
St. Gregory the Great is a Catholic Church made up of people of many different ages, talents, and cultural backgrounds. We are an urban faith community with a small town feel of welcome and hospitality. Motivated by our baptismal calling, we accept our duty to embody the presence of Jesus Christ in the world and to take up the mission he entrusted to us by our word and example. We glorify God through support and service of our time, talent, and treasure to our church and to the larger community in which we live.

NCA MASS AT ST. GREGORY ON SUNDAY, JAN. 29 Come celebrate Northside Catholic Academy and Catholic education at a special NCA Mass on Sunday, January 29, at 10:30. In honor of Catholic Schools Week, an NCA student and family will speak about NCA and why Catholic education is so important to our community. Alumni and NCA families are welcome to wear their uniforms or spirit wear to show their Wildcats pride! Soiree Grand Raffle tickets will be available to purchase after Mass. NCA is also hosting Open Houses at both campuses on January 29. Our Primary School Campus at St. Gertrude Parish (PreK-4) will be open 10am-12pm, and our new Middle School Campus at St. Margaret Mary Parish (5-8) will be open 11am-1pm. Everyone in our community is invited: parishioners, neighbors, alumni, current families and prospective parents! Come celebrate Catholic education with us! Meet administration and staff, talk to parents and teachers, and visit our classrooms. NCA is currently accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year, so this is the perfect opportunity to come learn more about our award winning school.
National Catholic Schools Week, an annual celebration of Catholic education, runs January 29-February 4. This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” At NCA, we are blessed to be part of such a special community where we can learn, pray and grow together. As a 2013 Blue Ribbon School, NCA exemplifies this year’s theme with our high standards of academic excellence; our commitment to a faith-filled, well-rounded education; and our focus on service. We look forward to celebrating NCA with you! For more information please contact Melissa Soberanes at 773-743-6277, ex. 207.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY The Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the World Council of Churches encourage their faithful to celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity between the feasts of St. Peter and St. Paul, January 18-25, 2017. The theme chosen for 2017 is “Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us.” The theme was offered to highlight the ongoing need for reconciliation among Christians five hundred years after Martin Luther’s initial public call for church reform in 1517. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invites us to a change of mind and heart, to commit ourselves to seek unity in the midst of our diversity, through our openness to a variety of forms of prayer and Christian spirituality. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a privileged moment for prayer, encounter and dialogue. It is an opportunity to recognize the richness and value that are present in the other, the different and to ask God for the gift of unity. Throughout 2017, join Christians everywhere in praying for Christian unity. TO TEACH WHO CHRIST IS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Currently, $401,877 has been pledged to the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. What this means for our parish is that if all pledges are paid in full, our parish will receive a rebate of $241,126. At this point, we have $205,659 in our TTWCI account at the Archdiocese of Chicago bank. My thanks to all who have paid their pledges in full. Now that the new boilers have been successfully installed in our Grammar/High School building, any additional funds we receive from TTWCI will be used to replenish the funds in our Parish Building and Maintenance Fund to cover the costs of future facilities repairs. Thank you for your generosity to and support of the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me. – Fr. Paul RESTORATIVE JUSTICE FORUM The Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues is sponsoring a workshop on Restorative Justice Forum: Understanding Restorative Justice on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 6-8p.m. at Senn High School (5900 N. Glenwood Ave.). Our justice system has an overwhelming focus on punishment and provides insufficient opportunities for rehabilitation. Restorative Justice Programs provide offenders, victims and communities an opportunity to restore relationships. Learn more about what Cook County is doing to change the way we think about justice and respond to offenses. All are welcome.
