Office Hours

Regular office hours will resume September 5th, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. We will be closed for the lunch hour between 12:00—1:00 pm.

Today’s Gospel reminds us that the Church is built on the foundation of faith in Jesus Christ. Peter announces the core of our faith, that Jesus is God’s only Son. The family, as the domestic church, has this same faith as its foundation. As you gather together as a family, talk about people whose faith has helped you to be a member of the Church and talk about what you have learned from leaders in our church today. Read together today’s Gospel, Matthew 16:13-20. Talk about what you know about Peter and his importance to the early Christian community. Talk about what we can learn from Peter and his profession of faith about Jesus. Conclude in prayer together by praying today’s Psalm or an Act of Faith.

Peter was expecting a Messiah that would carry out a different plan than the one Jesus had explained. Jesus was indeed the Messiah, but his life and death would show a different understanding of what it means to be the Messiah. We too have expectations of God and our own ideas about what we think God ought to be doing in our world. Like Peter we may risk limiting our image of God by thinking only in human ways. God’s plan is always more than we can ever imagine. As you gather as a family, talk about what we expect God to be doing in our world and in our family life. Then read today’s Gospel, Matthew 16:21-27. Why do you think Peter was so upset by what Jesus was saying? Notice how Jesus reprimands Peter. Do we sometimes forget to let God be God for us? That is, do we sometimes get discouraged because God doesn’t act in our world in the ways that we expect? Pray together that your family will remember that God is always work-ing for the world’s salvation in ways that are beyond our human imag-inings. Conclude by praying together today’s Psalm, Psalm 63.

Family Connection 21st & 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Together We Serve:

It’s been a long and arduous journey, but Sacred Heart Church in Fort Simpson, NWT is rising again. The small Dene community and the Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith have been raising money for the new church ever since the old had been demolished in 2012. Now a new $1.3 –million church will open its doors next month—thanks to contributions from the Archdiocese of Edmonton’s Together We Serve annual appeal, as well as donations from local residents, private donors, Catholic Missions in Canada, and the Diocese of Hamilton. Thank you for supporting Together We Serve.

Together, let us Live the Word.

We are now taking registrations for the Bible Study Sessions starting in September 2017. If you have completed the Great Adventure Bible Timeline, you are invited to register for the next study: Mat-thew, the King and His Kingdom. Cost for course materials is $55 per person. Sessions begin Tuesday, Sept. 12 or Sunday, Sept 17 from 7:00– 9:00 pm.

The Great Adventure Bible Timeline course is designed to help any-one to make sense of Scripture and journey through the entire Bible to learn our Salvation History. This is a pre-requisite for the next level of study, Matthew, the King and His Kingdom. Cost for course materials is $55 per person. Sessions begin Thursday, Oct. 12 from 7:00—9:00 pm.

If you were registered in 2016/2017 and have missed any sessions, or would like to take the course again, you are welcome to attend for no cost. Please contact a team member for more details. Email to [email protected] or call the Parish Office.

RCIA:

Jesus is waiting for you to discover more about Him. Have you ever thought about joining the Catholic Church? RCIA (The Rite of Chris-tian Initiation for Adults) is a scripture based journey to learn the message of Jesus in a whole new way, by learning about the roots and basis of the Catholic Faith. Come and see how God is calling you. We begin a new journey every four months. Our next journey begins on Friday, September 8th at 7:00 pm. For more information or to register, please call Ena at 587-879-5911 or email to [email protected].

The successful applicant will have excellent organizational, hospitality and communication skills. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Access are required, along with an ability to learn and maintain a new website management system. This role requires a self-starter who thrives in a team environment and, importantly, is sensitive to re-treat center ministry. Position will begin when a suitable candidate is found. Apply with resume to Star of the North Retreat Centre, by mail, fax (780-458-8877) or email [email protected]. Only those short-listed will be contacted.

Stewardship Fair: The stewardship fair is a visible celebration of the life of the par-ish. The goal for our Stewardship Fair is to celebrate the many ways that we are using our talents and gifts to reflect God’s love and to help others find a place of joyful service. It is an opportunity to showcase all the activities, services, ministries and groups that are living their Baptismal call and building up the Kingdom of God in our parish and the community. Our 2017 Stewardship goal is to tap into the time, talents, treas-ures and tongues of parishioners, so that they have ample oppor-tunities to share their "4Ts" in service to our parish and to the com-munity at large. As part of the Stewardship Fair, the 'Sign-up Sun-day' is being planned to help both existing and new parishioners to discern their call to serve the parish by serving in lay ministries. Some of the activities to support the Stewardship Fair:

• Lay Witnesses: living witness of stewardship by parishioners

[September 9/10 AND 16/17 Masses]

• Mass of Thanksgiving for lay ministries: to present and to

give thanks for all our lay ministries and to bless all stewards who served the church this past year. [September 16/17 Masses]

• Stewardship Fair: Sign-up Sunday with opportunities to visit

Ministry Fair booths and enjoy refreshments, prizes and dialogue with your fellow parishioners [September 23/24 Masses]. Prayerfully discern what special skills and talents God might be calling you to share in our parish or community. Take the oppor-tunity to sign-up and serve God and his family through parish lay ministries. Thank you for sharing your own time, talents, treasures and tongues to make Holy Family Parish the fertile soil in which we can all bear good fruits and a great harvest!
