SCHOOL

IFALPES Annecy

IFALPES Annecy is a 2 minute walk from the town centre. The school shares a building with the French students of the PIGIER School of Aesthetics.

The school has spacious and well lit classrooms each fitted with TV, DVD recorder, CD player and tape recorder. The building has free WIFI. There is an internet/computer room and students have free access to newspapers and magazines. Students are free to borrow books and DVDs.

There is no canteen at the school but there are vending machines with sandwiches. Microwaves are available to heat up meals and then students may sit down at a table to eat. There are restaurants and snack restaurants next to the school and the town centre is only a short walk away. Staff and contact information

STUDENT LIFE Before arriving at IFALPES

BEFORE ARRIVAL, THE STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE OUR PLACEMENT TEST.

They must complete the on line test at least 1 week before the start of the course. Each student will receive the login and password with the enrolment confirmation. Full instructions are given to the student in French and in English when they log in. Students do not receive the test results as this test is only to place students in their level group. After this, students will have an oral interview by skype or telephone with the academic coordinator. Timetables and groups will be communicated the week preceding the start of the course by mail. The first day

Students should report to the school at 8.15am on the first day for a brief presentation of the school. Throughout the day they will have an information meeting, school presentation, guided tour of the town and a welcome drink.

Example of first day timetable: 08h15 to 09h0: Welcome speech and presentation of the school 09h00 to 12h20: Courses or visit of the town if courses take place in the afternoon Free lunch break 13h30 to 16h50: Courses or visit of the town if courses take place in the morning.

Students who didn’t sit the placement test before arrival, will sit an oral test at 9h00 and will join their group either in the morning or in the afternoon according to the timetable. Students taking the 40 lessons course will attend the meeting at 8h15 and then they will join their groups in the morning and afternoon. 40 lessons students won’t have the visit of the town. The student card

It is free of charge. The student cards offer many advantages and discounts (museums, theatres, bicycle hire, bus tickets, restaurants, activities and more). Teaching material

We have all the “FLE” (Français Langue Etrangère) text books available in our teacher library and we do not impose one text book per group. We use the best out of each teaching method and we give photocopies to the class. We also use authentic documents such as newspapers and magazines in class. There is no extra fee for the material that we provide. Certificates

At the end of the course, the student will get a written evaluation of their level with the total number of hours and remarks from their teacher. They will also get a certificate with their name, date of birth, dates of the course, their CECRL level (Common European Framework of Reference for languages) and a grade from the teacher. This is free of charge and automatic no matter how long the stay is. Students who sit courses at IPAC School of Management can validate ECTS credits and are delivered a European Transcript of Records. We have agreements with some American universities to transfer US credits. Please contact [email protected] for more information. Eaquals Accreditation IFALPES was inspected by EAQUALS in July 2013 and met the high standards required for EAQUALS accreditation The teaching, the course programmes, as well as the course organisation, the learning resources, testing and evaluation were all judged to be of high quality. It was found that the institution takes great care to protect the welfare of its clients and staff, and all publicity materials produced by the institution are accurate and truthful. COURSE ORGANIZATION & DATES In brief: We provide group lessons for all levels: Complete beginners (A0), A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, (C2 on request)

Our courses are for adults only. The minimum age is 18.

IFALPES courses have a monthly organisation, but it is possible for non-beginners students to join courses any Monday. Flexible departure dates.

On the first day students must arrive at 8h15 for orientation.

Classes are from Monday to Friday: 9h00 to 12h20 and 13h30 to 16h50.

Each 1 hour lesson is equal to 45 minutes of teaching.

The institute will also be closed between 19th December 2015 and 2nd January 2016.

GENERAL FRENCH COURSES

In class, students work on improving the grammar, vocabulary, written and oral comprehension and especially oral communication. We encourage students to speak and participate in class as much as possible so that they can practice their French, be corrected and gain confidence. Students also study French culture and in the higher levels French literature too. Our teachers are all French and university trained. They are specialized in teaching French as a Second Language and use modern and innovative techniques. Progress is rapid and guaranteed.

1 lesson = 45 minutes SEMI-INTENSIVE – 12 lessons per week

For non-beginners (A1- A2 - B1 - B2 - C1 - C2 on request) Minimum booking 11 weeks

Students have class 3 times in the week, either in the morning or afternoon. They have class in the same groups as students attending the intensive and super-intensive programmes.

INTENSIVE – 20 lessons per week

For all levels (Complete beginners - A1 - A2 - B1 - B2 - C1 - C2 on request)

Lessons are either morning or afternoon classes: students might have class 3 mornings and 2 afternoons or vice versa.

Lessons are split into 2 groups: 20 lessons in a group which corresponds to the student's level & 20 lessons in a group which encourages development. French lessons + weekend ski trips WINTER 2016 (For students over 18 only).

The FRENCH & SKI course is very good value for money as the price includes ski pass + transport; you also receive 20% commission on the language course price. The students will study French from Monday to Friday and have 2 full days of skiing on Saturday and Sunday*. Students do not spend the night in the resort.

Your students will be able to ski in the biggest skiing areas in the world with 600 kilometres of slopes in the 3 Valleys www.les3vallees.com (Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens …) as well as in the other 110 ski resorts (Chamonix, Avoriaz, Val d’Isère, Tignes…) with 4800 kilometres of slopes!

*Ski trips can be cancelled in case of very bad weather or lack of snow.

One-to-one language lessons by Skype (by internet with web cam and microphone).

Courses tailored to student needs by our qualified teachers. The student has the possibility to purchase lesson credit time in advance: 1 lesson = 30 minutes. He is then free to set an appointment at his convenience with the teacher.

The lesson via videoconference can take place before their stay at IFALPES, during their stay in the evenings… or even at weekends!

It is highly recommended to students once they go back to their home country.

This complementary course is an ideal way for students to develop subjects previously studied in class in a 100% personalized approach.

ACCOMMODATION

HOUSING

Our accommodation service offers a wide range of housing to IFALPES’ students. Location: All accommodation is located in the town centre or on the outskirts. They are all reachable walking, cycling or by bus within 10-30 minutes (depending on distance and means of transportation used).

Dates of accommodation: All types of accommodation are available from the Sunday before the start of the course until the Saturday following the end of the course. To book extra days please contact us for availability and prices. Accommodation details (address, family or landlord contact numbers & emails) are sent around 2 weeks before the start of the course.

HOMESTAY

This type of accommodation is ideal if the student wants to discover the French way of life and improve their conversation skills.

Facilities: single room with a bed, wardrobe, table or desk with a chair. The students share the bathroom and living area with the rest of the family. APARTMENTS

The price for a studio flat or apartment will depend on what is available at the time. The accommodation service will make an offer of what is available to match the request. The apartments are available for a full calendar month: i.e. 1st September -30th September. For a shorter period the entire month needs to be paid.

No washing machines in the apartments. Students can easily use the launderettes in town.

Apartment accommodation is recommended for more independent students.

Please note. For individual studios and shared apartments, if no insurance policy has been subscribed to and the deposit has not been paid by the first day, the landlord has the right to refuse entry.

SHARED APARTMENTS

Facilities: Single bedroom furnished with bed, wardrobe, desk and chair. Crockery provided. Students share the kitchen & bathroom with other students.

Couples must book individual studios, please check availability.

To encourage communication in French, we only place students with different mother tongues in the same apartments.
