Our first Vicariate Lenten Communal Penance Service is here at St. Isidore this Monday night, April 8, at 7:00 PM.  Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an essential part of our Lenten journey and our preparation to celebrate the Paschal mysteries at Easter.

Today we celebrated the third and final scrutiny with our Elect as they prepare to celebrate the Easter Sacraments at the Easter Vigil. They continue to be the focus of our parish prayer during the Lenten Season.

We thank everyone who was able to join us last Sunday at our Appreciation and Farewell reception for Fr. Mark George as he completed his ministry at St. Isidore.  We are so grateful for his time with us, and sharing his Jesuit charism, especially his passion for Social Justice.  He challenged us in many ways to live out the Gospel values of Jesus, values which are at odds with those of our culture.

Fr. Matt Ellis, currently Associate Pastor at St. Lawrence parish in Utica, will begin his assignment as our new Associate Pastor on May 1.  Please keep him in your prayers as he prepares for his ministry with us.

“How can I show compassion for those I am tempted to condemn?”

In today’s society we see people placing judgment and giving condemnation in the news, at school, in the workplace and on social media. Many people have no problem sharing their thoughts while never realizing the hurt they deliver to others. In today’s gospel reading, Jesus is confronted with a situation that could call for condemnation. However, he shows us that we need to be focused on compassion; Jesus turns this situation into a moment of encounter and forgiveness.

Every time we pray the “Our Father” we are given the opportunity to ask for God’s mercy and we ask to be an example of that mercy to others. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” By focusing on the true meaning of the words that we pray, it reminds us to act with mercy and compassion when we encounter someone suffering.

Jesus challenges us to give compassion and be the light when there is darkness and show that love is stronger than hate.

-Ann De Rey

CONNECTING POINTTHE GRACES OF THE DIVINE MERCY FEAST DAYOur Lord’s revelation to St. Faustina:

“The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Font of My Mercy…On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My Mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout all eternity.MARIAN PRESS

Meditation (from McCullen, Deep Down Things p. 103-4)“We are called to be shepherds for the lost sheep in our lives, watching for them, calling out to them, running after them, gathering them in our arms and helping them. God asks us to bring love and compassion to others each and every day. He gives us the strength and ability to do whatever He calls us to do.”

“Loving is the art of caring.Caring is the art of sharing.Sharing is the art of living.Living is the art of loving.”SOURCE UNKNOWN

Let us love, care, and share by giving a prayer blanket or shawl (available in the Church office) to someone this week. There is no charge for these items. Please get and give a blanket or shawl to a person you know.

This week’s article is focusing on DB Peru Santa Martha Foundation - Casa Hogar Villa Martha, Pachacamac - Lima Peru as written by Peg Meyer, DB Peru representative.

Casa Hogar Villa Martha is a special place. It’s a refuge for physically and emotionally abandoned children who live in this poor region just outside of Lima, Peru where DB headquarters is based. The children receive consistent, loving care in a safe environment. They also receive a strong moral and spiritual foundation that teaches them their value in the eyes of God.

Because they have limited or no family support, it’s imperative these children are able to meet life’s challenges once they are old enough to leave the home. To help them become responsible adults, Casa Hogar Villa Martha offers many workshops, including farming, sewing, baking, and computer/word processing. This training teaches responsibility, discipline, and the value of hard work. It also builds children’s confidence and self-esteem.

Equipment and supplies are needed in all of these programs, and funds to purchase them are limited. Your support would

LENTEN GIVING TREEhelp these programs continue and flourish, allowing the children to learn new skills they can use for the rest of their lives.

Representatives from DB Peru have had the pleasure of visiting Casa Hogar Villa Martha many times over the years and we have great respect for their work and guiding principles. We support their work and are honored to facilitate donation through our charity that benefits the children living there.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all of our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.2 CORINTHIANS 1:3-4

UTE PRIESTLY VOCATIONS

High school men who are freshmen, sophmores and juniors will experience Sacred Heart Major Seminary and learn more about the priesthood at a discernment overnight next weekend.

This shorter version of the Office of Priestly Vocations’ discernment weekend is structured specifically to give high school students a look at seminary life. Held twice each academic year, the experience features presentations, time for reflection, and opportunities to pray, eat, and recreate with current seminarians.

Your CSA gifts help the Archdiocese of Detroit encourage vocations to the diocesan priesthood. Besides discernment weekends and overnights, the office offers regional discernment groups, retreats, vocation days for junior high students, and outreach to parishes and schools.

For more information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to aod.org.
