SOLO WORK

Theme: Integration

The kitchen was designed in a 9m² area, rationally allocat-ing tools in a way of promote a functional and integrated space. Ergonomic measures ensure

comfort for users. The aesthet-ics proposal follows an idea of simplicity and horizontality, with neutral colors constrasting with punctual elements of liveliness.

In this studio we’re sup-posed to design a small build-ing - restaurant - based on a strong symbolic content and us-ing deconstrutivism as theme.

The designing process was made by a research about restaurants and snack bars and then the deconstruction of a rectangular prism. The prism

was sectioned in small parts, and the right angles turned into acute and obtuse ones. The restaurant counts with a 15 linear metre stand, a 6 square

meters resorvoir, a 16m² kitch-en, a 50m² saloon, female and male toilets and an ac-cessible toilet, totaling 100m², Model made on FORM-Z.

The Student Housing is located in one of University of Brasilia’s campus. The project includes an urban planning for the area and the buildings de-

sign itself, which will attend to 640 students. Using pilotis and organizing the buildings in the same orientation of the neighbor-hood, we create a identity with

the Brasília’s urban typology. The buildings shape was based on prefabricat-ed structures and inspired byt the brutalist architecture.

Technical drawing made on AutoCAD and virtu-al model on Sketchup PRO.

Each apartment was de-signed to lodge 4 students, disabled ones included. The sense of community is encour-aged by shared spaces, such as

the collective bedroom, living room, kitchen and service area. The apartments were de-signed to facilitate the flow and create a functional space.

Sunlight ilumination and nat-ural ventilation were the main elements in the project. With openings in opposite fa-cades, the thermal comfort

was much improved. In addi-tion, the main rooms have very good ilumination all day long. Model made on laminated wood.

Once the apartments are shared by four students, the bathroom was divided in three independent spaces: shower, washbasin and toilet.

This is a special bathroom projected based on an univer-sal design, to accomodate stu-dents with disabillties. Grab bars were disposed in suitable

height, and the furniture as well. Furthermore , a non-slip flooring surfare is used and all the fixtures have manoeuvring spaces around to allow the use

of walkers and wheelchairs.

AIRPORT OF UBERLÂNDIA

The Airport of Uberlân-dia has the capacity to park 6 airplanes at the same time, with almost 23000m² dis-tributed through 3 floors.

The 1st floor is destinat-ed for the process of landing, the 2nd floor for check in and boarding and the 3rd floor for food hall and an observatory .

The main proposal of this studio is create a large building using a great span. In this airport design we use a mixed struc-ture of reinforced concret and

metalic trusses to support the covering. The biggest span has 30m between pillars, and the beams (trusses) are 1,5m tall.

The Millenium Building is a tower located in a com-mercial area in Brasilia’s cen-tre. The typology follows the strict building code of the area:

a big platform, which occupies 100% of the builgind sit and a tower, which should occupy only 30% of the platform area. The guiding conceopt

was based in a orthogonal and simple shape, with recoils to improve the natural ventilation and ilumination. The shape was complemented with a appar-

ent metalic element to rein-force the structure, which also became a aesthetics factor.

The main idea of this space is create a refuge of all the stress present in an urban work life. The Milleni-um Building’s Rooftop was

turned into a humble garden with little fruitfull trees, col-orful plants and grass-plot, combined with restaurants and cafes. Acting as a com-

mon space for all building’s users, the garden works as a public observatory of the city. The garden’s shape was inspired by the building’s

straight lines and hallows, contrasting with an organ-ic and curvilinear elements.

The Distrito Federal’s prison-al system has a deficit of nearly 5000 vacancies . In a way of meet this de-mand, the Correctional Center of DF was create to lodge 600 prisoners.

Based on a concept of re-covery, the Centre has 150 col-lective cells and a complete group of support buildings, such as sports, educational, factory,

healthcare and administration. The shape was developt based on a topological diagram, overlaying a areas chart and con-sidering the natural ventilation

and ilumination of all rooms. A modular system was used in the structure, in a way of decrease the costs, speed up the construction and facilitate the security mechanisms.

The cell was created to house four men, with a collective washbasin and a toilet. The cell counts with safe furnishing and use a soft color to convey peace.

Ventilation and ilumi-nation are warrented for all prisoners, ensuring the wel-fare in search of recovery.

This activity is called ‘geom-etrization’ and is based in a deep observation and analysis about the shape of something in nature - in this case, a seashell. The study of the

element allows the construction of geometrical shapes (bidimensional and tridimensional), which can be a base for architectural construction.
