Genre- Disco, funk-pop and blue-eyed soulPurpose- The purpose of this video is to entertain the audience through the idea of surprising people on their wedding days. What’s Inspiration- The way Maroon 5 surprised the public was inspirational and original. The use low camera angles throughout which creates a interesting view for the audience.

One Republic- Counting StarsType of video- Performance and NarrativeGenre- Folk rockPurpose- The purpose of this video is to promote the band but also tell a story in a unique way.What's inspirational –At the beginning starts really slow then as the first verse starts the editing gets much quicker.

Arctic Monkeys- R U Mine?Type of Video- PerformanceGenre- Indie rockPurpose- To promote the band and its image. What's inspirational- They filmed it themselves which made it more personal. The use of a handheld camera makes it more unique and unexpected as you would expect a high budget music video from a band there size. A video like this works well and it doesn’t cost a lot.

Imagine Dragons- RadioactiveType of video- NarrativeGenre- Alternative RockPurpose- The purpose of this video is to represent what the lyrics are saying.What's inspirational-. I like the opening shot which is a medium long shot, it sets the scene but always makes you wonder what's in the box that the person is carrying. The idea of the video is very creative and unique which is different to other folk rock music videos.

The Lumineers - Ho HeyType of video- PerformanceGenre- Indie RockPurpose- Is to promote the band and their style of performance. What’s inspirational ? – I like the way the video moves from one setting to another in different shots. The slow pace editing is really effective. Also the lyrics are meaningful and relate to what is happening in the video.

Mumford and Sons- I will wait Type of video- PerformanceGenre- Folk RockPurpose- the purpose of the music video is to promote their song and their unique style of performance. What is inspirational ?. I like the way they capture the crowd in a variety of camera shots. The size of the audience is really effective but would be difficult to replicate something similar in my music video. The font at the start blends in well with the background.

R Kelly- The Worlds Greatest• Type of video- Narrative

Genre- R&BPurpose- The purpose of this video is to show how well respected Muhammed Ali is. R Kelly does this by using lots of American people to express their feelings towards Ali through dancing and props. What is inspirational ? – It is inspirational to me because its shows everyone's respect to this massive sporting icon. The lighting in this video is sharp and adds focus to the fighter. I like how the crowd are in black and white and the fighter is in colour.

Eminem- My Name is• Type of video- Performance

Genre- RapPurpose- To promote the artist. What is inspirational ? I liked the fast and slow motion used in this video. It was effective and gave the video a dramatic dimension.

Justin Bieber- What do you mean?• Type of video- Narrative

Genre- PopPurpose- It promotes Justin Beiber as a singer and a model.What is inspirational ? I like the bright lightening in the background of the video as it relates to the story line and the use of depth of field creates a sharper image.

Labrinth- Jealous • Type of video- Performance

Genre- R&BPurpose- the purpose of this video is to promote the song. This is done by focusing on Labrinth and the lyrics. There is nothing to distract the audience in the background therefore they will focus more on the lyrics and the artist.What is inspirational ? This video is really simple but the low camera angles show off Labrinths facial expression which shows he is passionate about the lyrics which makes it moving. Extreme close up showed he was crying which made it emotional.

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools• Type of video- Conceptual

Genre- Hip HopPurpose- The purpose is to promote each artist separately as they aren’t in shots together. The video is abstract which will keep the audience interested. What is inspirational ? I like the use of props as it clearly represents the genre and shows their class.

Eminem - Lose Yourself• Type of video- Narrative

Genre- R&BPurpose- The purpose of this video is to promote the film ‘8 mile’ and the artist.What is inspirational ? This video can relate to anyone who is into rap or who has seen 8 mile. I like the use of extreme close ups in parts of the video as it shows the emotion coming from the artist.

Ed Sheeran- The A Team• Type of video- Narrative

Genre- Indie folkPurpose- the video shows how vulnerable young girls are on the street and how hard life is for homeless people. Ed Sheeran is trying to get the message across that girls don’t belong on the street and should have respect from themselves. What is inspirational ? It is inspirational in the way the lyrics portray what is happening on the screen therefore it makes it more moving for the audience. As it was his first video the filming is amateur as its mostly done on a handheld camera.

Catfish and the Bottlemen - Kathleen • Type of video- Performance

Genre- Alternative rock Purpose- To promote the band and their image which would encourage people to take a interest. What is inspirational ? The way the band is portrayed through the different camera angles and lights makes it entertaining.

Fetty Wap- Trap queen Type of video- Performance Genre- Hip HopPurpose- the purpose is to promote the song and the artist interests.What is inspirational ? The use of props is effective as it represents the song and the artist. The use of money relates to the lyrics in the song.

The Killers- Mr Brightside• Type of video- Narrative

Genre- Indie RockPurpose- The video represents the meaning of the song. It also promotes the bands performance. What is inspirational ? There is a relationship between the music and the visuals with lots of shots of the band playing in time with the music. There is also a narrative of a love triangle to go with performance shots of the band.

Omarion Ft. Chris Brown & Jhene Aiko - Post To Be• Type of video- Performance

Genre- R&BPurpose- The purpose is to over expose what they have and they are showing off their status. What is inspirational ? In this video there is random cuts where they have paint being poured over people and instruments which is different and abstract.

Milky Chance- Stolen Dance• Type of video- Performance

Genre- Indie FolkPurpose- the video represents his version of paradise and the lyrics matches what's happening behind him. What is inspirational ? The video is very intimate and it gives a lot of room for imagination. I like how the background and the artist are both slighty faded.

Taylor Swift- Shake it off • Type of video- Performance/Narrative

Genre- PopPurpose- The video is very versatile and it can relate to many people. What is inspirational ? There is a clear link between the music and the visuals that keep with the theme of the genre. Everything is over the top and above what you would normally see in a pop music video. In some parts the lyrics are being illustrated by the dancers.

Bastille- Pompeii Type of video- NarrativeGenre- Alternative Indie Purpose- the video shows the artist performing and his idea behind the lyrics. What is inspirational ? The mise en scene in this video is really effective. The artist is wearing all black which draws attention to him but always gives the audience a feel as though something bad will happen. As the other characters in the video they have black eyes which makes it mysterious.

Bombay Bicycle Club –always like this• Type of video-Narrative Genre- IndiePurpose- the video shows how much fun their lives are and shows everything they do together and the lyrics supports this. What is inspirational ? I liked the use of camera shots in this video especially long shots. In the picture below this long shot of members of the band is effective because of the three guitars and three different coloured doors. This shows they may be in the same band but they have different personalities.

The Kooks- Naïve • Type of video- Narrative

Genre- Indie Purpose- The video shows the story of the lead singer in love with a girl which is supported by the lyrics. What is inspirational ? The camerawork starts with the camera tracking the lead singer as he walks to the party. This makes the audience feel like they are moving with him and make them feel part of it. The camera tracking is slow like the pace of the song which I found effective.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop• Type of video- Conceptual

Genre- RockPurpose-The video shows what the bands all about and the video doesn’t relate to the lyrics. What is inspirational ? At the start of the music video i liked how the camera moves along inside the pipe as if to show the audience that they are a part of the music video and to create the effect of them being their with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Hozier - Someone New • Type of video- Performance

Genre- Alternative Purpose- The video shows life in this one girls view and shows how easily people influence her. What is inspirational ? I like the lighting on the lead singer and the instruments and helps sets the tone of the song.

Taylor Swift- The story of us • Type of video- Narrative/Performance• Type of genre- Pop• Purpose- Shows a story off a girl and boy falling for

each other and also promotes the artist.• Inspiration- I like the variation of shots at the

beginning. Its starts off with an establishing shot of an old building to the camera panning horizontally to the right showing a row of books, with shows the audience its set in a library.

George Ezra- BudapestType of video- Performance Genre- Folk rockPurpose- The purpose of this video is to promote the artist by making him centre of attention in the video. It also shows different cultures and people coming together.What is inspirational ?-I like the use of slow motion and how George Ezra always looks into the camera lens. It brings attention to the artist not its surroundings. The use of different people makes it relatable to more people when they watch and hear the video.

Drake- Hold on we’re coming home• Type of video- Narrative • Type of genre- R&B• Purpose- Shows a story of a girl being kidnaped and

Drake is trying to save her. • Inspiration- The use of mise en scene is effective in

this video. the cars show that its sets in a different time period, as the video is meant to be set in 1985. There are several shot reverse shots to shows that a conversation is taking place and to show the artists facial expressions.

Ed Sheeran- Give me love• Type of video- Narrative • Type of genre- Indie Pop• Purpose- Shows a story of a young girl matching

people together. The lyrics relate to what is happening on the screen. • Inspiration- I like the use of diegetic sound in this

video, there are diegetic sounds of police sirens over a shot then it carries on to the next shoot which is a medium close up of a police officer which suggests something bad is going to happen.

Justin Timberlake- Mirrors • Type of video- Narrative • Type of genre- Pop/ R&B• Purpose- This music video is a tribute to his

Grandparents. Its shows what impact fighting had during their time together. • Inspiration- I found the mise en scene in tis video

was good and matched the theme of the song. The dark walls keep the setting quite dim and the red pool tables connote love and passion which represents the theme of romance.

James bay- Hold back the river

• Type of video- Performance • Type of genre- Indie Rock• Purpose- To promote the artist. • Inspiration- The camera focuses on the

instrument which suggest he is performing to a audience. Although James bay is a solo artist there are multiple shots of him and the band which is common in indie music videos.
