REGULATIONS

1. All animals must be the bona-fide property of the Exhibitor.

2. Entries will only be accepted if accompanied by the correct entry fee.

3. All entries, with the exception of horses, donkeys and the domestic section are to be in the Showground no later than 8.45am and remain until 4.00pm. Domestic section all entries to be displayed by 6.30pm on Friday evening and to remain until 4.30pm on Saturday. This will be strictly adhered to.

4. All animals bought into the Showground shall be subject to the orders, regulations and rules of the Association or Officers appointed by them. Cases of disobedience of orders will be reported to the Committee who reserve the right to disqualify a defaulter.

5. All animal exhibitors must have adequate third party insurance.

6. No unsound horse shall be eligible to win a prize.

7. Correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps/Riding hats Nos. PAS015, EN1384, ASTMF1163, that meet current safety standards, must be worn by children at all times when mounted. Also these safety hats must be worn by all riders when jumping.

8. In awarding the prizes to the cattle and sheep, the judges will be instructed to take into consideration their relative merits for breeding purposes.

9. Any person making a false entry or giving a wrong description will be disqualified from taking a prize if awarded, such prize and all lesser prizes in that class, passing to the animals following in order of merit, except in such cases as the Schedule Committee shall decide otherwise.

10. Exhibitors of Bulls over 10 months of age must ensure that two people accompany the bull at all times when competing or moving the animal to and from the cattle lines to the ring. No bulls born before 1st January 2018 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockperson Classes.

11. All cattle entered will be double tied and must be suitably trained. All sheep will be in pens.

12. The Schedule Committee reserve to themselves the right to withhold any prize, make any alterations they deem necessary and also to settle any protest or dispute that may arise.

13. Any person making a protest shall, within one hour from the time the class is judged, deposit £5 with the General Secretary and if the protest is not upheld the money shall be forfeited to the Association. Should a protest be lodged relative to the age of any animal the same will be decided by the relevant Society’s Herd Book or by the Association’s Honorary Veterinary Surgeon and Dentition Rules.

14. The Association will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury, which persons, stock or exhibits whatsoever may sustain, except where provided for in statute.

15. The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards.

16. The Showground will be open for the reception of implements and equipment on the day before the Show until 8.00pm.

17. General Data Protection Regulation. You may have heard about the new GDPR that comes into effect on 25 May 2018. To help comply with GDPR consent requirements, we need to confirm that you would like to continue receiving the Liskeard Show schedule each year. Local Classes: The area that qualifies for the local specials is east of the River Fowey to Lostwithiel. The B3268 to the A30, south of the A30 from the B3268 to the River Tamar and west of the River Tamar. Please see the map for details.

All cattle entries must comply with DEFRA regulations in force at the time of the show. Liskeard Agricultural Show Holding Number 07/156/8002. All movements must be reported to the British Cattle Movement Service. Details will be sent with passes etc. for those who have entered. (Adhesive labels bearing the show site holding number are available.) All cattle must be double tied. Exhibitors of Bulls over 10 months of age must ensure that two people accompany the bull at all times when competing or moving the animal to and from the cattle lines to the ring. No bulls born before 1st January 2018 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockpersons Classes. Due to the changes to TB pre-movement testing exemptions no cattle can remain on the showground for longer than a 24 hour period.

The Association will make available to exhibitors a milking bail, kindly supplied by the Dairy Centre Ltd. Please could exhibitors bring their own milking units.

All cups should be signed for and collected from the Livestock Office after the Grand Parade.

Would exhibitors please ensure that they enter for Special Exhibitors Prizes on the entry form.

Classes may be amalgamated if there are fewer than three entries in each section. Exhibitors must live within the area marked on the map on page 4 to qualify for local classes and specials.

C45 The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association – Cornish Points Championship This show is one of five (Camborne, Camelford, Launceston, Liskeard and Stithians) at which points will be offered towards Prizes of 1st £100 and 2nd £50 in open cattle classes for the exhibitors gaining the most points over the 2018 Cornish summer show season. qualify for entry, each exhibitor must be a member of the Cornwall Holstein Club and their herd is resident within the county of Cornwall. Points awarded:- 1st = 5pts, 2nd = 4pts, 3rd = 3pts, 4th = 2pts, 5th = 1pt.

C37 The BOCM/SILCOCK Challenge Cup presented by Messrs BOCM/Silcock, for a Holstein Cow of Heifer scoring most points for conformation, milk yield and butterfat, for the officially recorded lactation completed after 30th May 2017 and or not more than 305 days. A National Milk Records certificate MUST BE ENCLOSED WITH ENTRY FORM. 80 points to be awarded to the Best Animal for conformation with the remaining animals on a descending scale; 5 points for each 453.5kgs (1,000 lbs) milk yield 3 points for each 0.1% over 3.5% butterfat. Animals with an average butterfat of less than 3.3% will not be eligible to compete.

The Mole Valley Farmers Young Handler Series Championship 2018

- Supporting the next generation

For the second year, Mole Valley Farmers is holding its Young Handlers Series of competitions across shows in the South West. This is open to young stock handlers (aged 12 and under on the first January 2018). With sheep, beef and dairy categories, children entering the Young Handler classes at Liskeard Show (14th July), Woolsery Show (30th July), Launceston Show (26th July), North Devon Show (1st August), Okehampton Show (9th August), Dunster Show (17th August) and Holsworthy & Stratton Show (23rd August), will automatically be entered.

Points will be accumulated at each show in the series. First prize = 3 points; second prize = 2 points;

third prize = 1 points. At the final show, Holsworthy & Stratton, there will be a special presentation to

the children with the top three marks. The winner will receive a cup and sash, plus £100 of Mole

Valley Farmers vouchers; £50 for second place and £25 for third place.

Notes: There is a special section for MV sheep. Forms will be inspected as exhibitors enter the sheep field. Exhibitors are requested to bring completed Movement Licences to record their sheep on and off the showground and hand them to the steward at the gate.

RETRAINING OF RACEHORSES Judges:

All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force’

Class: 23 The RoR / TBA (Thoroughbred Breeders Association) Retrained Racehorse Challenge 2018

The RoR Retrained Racehorse Challenge. Mare or gelding 4 yrs old or over and of any height. Riders must be

15 years old or over on the 1st January. Horses to be ridden in any suitable bridle and should be plaited. All

entries must be registered with RoR and HAVE raced in GB. The first three go forward to the final at the

RoR Championships at Aintree in August 2018 or 2019 for shows after 1st

August 2018.

Horses will NOT be ridden by the judge. Horses may be stripped for conformation at the discretion of the

judge. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. All those entering horses

and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from

time to time in force.

Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.

The class to be judged 50% jumping, 20% style while jumping and performance and 30% awarded for show,

manners and suitability to be retrained.

PHASE 1

Jumping to be judged:

8 rustic jumps (2’6” to 3’ with a maximum spread of 85 centimeters)

The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 10 points to be deducted for a knock

down. 15 points to be deducted for a refusal. 20 points for second refusal. Elimination for third refusal or fall.

PHASE 2

Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (In some classes, at the judge’s

discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring. This is often

the case with a large number in the class)

Each horse is to complete an individual show of no longer than 1½ minutes. Show to include the following

movements:


Walk, trot, canter showing change of leg, extended canter (gallop) halt and stand, walk off on a long rein. Total

marks out of 30% for show, manners and suitability to be retrained. Fences for the final at Aintree can be up to

a maximum of 3’6”.

QUALIFIER FOR THE SIR LANCELOT MEMORIAL TROPHY A Special rosette will be offered to the Adult Member, carrying their current Championship Points Card, of the SSA Area in which the Show is organised, who during the Equitation Qualifier Class (irrespective of final placing) is judged to be the most elegant. That member will be eligible to compete in the Final for the Sir Lancelot Memorial Trophy (donated by the late Mrs E. Skelton) at the National Side Saddle Show. A Member may only qualify once per season between one National Show and the next, and if the Judge’s first choice has already qualified, the rosette will be awarded to the next eligible competitor. 42 SIDE SADDLE COSTUME CONCOURS d’ ÉLÉGANCE The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse/pony and rider, and the way of going of the horse/pony. Safe tack must be used. Detailed inspection of the rider’s period costume is not required. Fancy dress is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required, but the judge may ask small groups of 3 or 4 riders to give short displays. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Card. Competitors should produce a brief résumé about their costumes for the Commentator. Juniors must wear hats to current Safety Standard or above for this class. Adult riders not wearing such hats do so at their own risk.

HEAVY HORSES Judge: Mrs L Hamilton, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Class: 43 Best Ridden Heavy Horse. Open to Mares, stallions or geldings, 4 years old and over that are

unregistered or registered in the main British stud books of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk or Percheron Horse Societies. Riders of stallions must be 16 years and over. Horses may be shown unplaited or plaited with neck rolls. Neck flights are not permitted for health and safety reasons. Tail flights are permissible. Judge will not ride. The class will be judged on performance and obedience as a ridden horse in walk, trot, canter and stand and rein back. Horses will be asked to give a go-round together and will then complete an individual display lasting no longer than 2 minutes. On completion of the individual shows the horses may be stripped and judged on conformation.

Lead to circle of carpet and arrange pony’s two front legs on the carpet. 3. Turn pony on the forehand, 180°, with pony’s front legs remaining in the circle. 4. With the pony on a LOOSE rein, lead in and out of cones. 5. STILL ON A LOOSE REIN, lead pony onto blue carpet, and halt for three secs, count aloud, then proceed to LARGE CONE. 6. Halt at Large Cone, pick up front foot and hold for three secs, count aloud. 7. Trot from LARGE CONE over white pole. 8. Turn at X and trot back to carpet circle, leading pony from the OFF SIDE. 9. RECIPES

Class: 1 Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients: 10oz strong white bread flour, 2oz rolled oats, 4oz strong wholemeal flour, 1 level tspn bicarbonate of soda, 1 level tspn salt, 300ml (½pt) buttermilk or 150ml (¼pt) milk and 150ml (¼pt) of natural yoghurt mixed. Approx. 6 Tbsp tepid water. Method: Preheat oven 200°C, fan 180°C, gas 6, 400°F. Lightly grease a baking tray. Mix together the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add buttermilk (or milk and yoghurt mixture) and enough tepid water to form a very soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and shape into 2 neat rounds about 18cm (7”) in diameter. Place on the baking tray and make a shallow cross on the top with a sharp knife. Bake in the preheated oven for 30mins then turn upside down and continue to bake for a further 10-15 mins or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the base, cool on a rack.

Class: YFC Class 6 & Open Cookery Class 4 Tea bread

Ingredients: 6oz dried mixed fruit and 4oz brown sugar soaked overnight in 6 fl oz of cold tea. 8oz self-raising flour, 1 egg beaten. Method: Mix beaten egg with tea soaked fruit and sugar, fold in the flour, mix well and place in a lined and well-greased 1lb loaf tin. Cook at 160°C/325°F/Gas 3 for 1 - 1¼ hours. Allow to cool in tin for 5 minutes, turn out onto wire rack and leave to cool completely.

Class: 6 Boiled Fruit Cake

Ingredients: 4oz margarine or butter, 6oz caster sugar, 6oz currants, 6oz sultanas, 2oz mixed peel, 8floz water, 1 level tsp bicarbonate of soda, 1 level tsp of mixed spice, 2 large beaten eggs, 4oz plain flour, 4oz self raising flour, pinch of salt. Method: Oven temp 140°C, 280°F, Gas 1. In a large saucepan add margarine/butter, caster sugar, dried fruit, mixed peel, water, bicarbonate of soda and mixed spice. Bring to a rolling boil and cook for 1 minute. Cool mixture for 20 minutes stirring often before gradually adding the beaten eggs, followed by the flour and salt. Stir well then turn into a greased and lined 2lb loaf tin. Bake for 1 hour 15 mins or until the cake goes quiet.

Class: 7 Whole Orange Cake

Ingredients: 1 small orange, 140g/5oz castor sugar, 3 eggs, 85g/3oz self raising flour, 100g/4oz ground almonds, 50g/2oz melted butter For the Icing. 50g/2oz butter softened, 245g/8oz icing sugar, grated rind of an orange, 50g/2oz cream cheese (full fat) Method: Put the orange in a pan and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 1 hour. Remove orange and cool. Pre heat oven 180°C, gas mark 4, 160°C fan oven, 350°F. Butter and line base of an 8” round deep pan cake tin. Roughly chop the cooked orange discarding any pips. Whizz in a processor until fairly smooth. Whisk eggs until light and fluffy. Sift the flour and ground almonds into the egg mixture and using a large metal spoon fold gently, then add the orange puree and melted butter. Fold gently until just mixed. Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 40-45 minutes until cake is brown and springs back when lightly pressed. Cool in the tin for 5 mins then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Icing. Cream the butter until soft, add the icing sugar and cream cheese then grated orange zest. Mix well and put on the top of the cake in swirls.


Class: 9 Chocolate Fudge Cake:

Ingredients: 50g (2oz) sifted cocoa powder, 6tbsp boiling water, 3 large eggs, 50ml (2fl oz) milk, 175g (6oz) SR flour, 1 rounded tsp baking powder, 100g (4oz) softened butter, 275g (10oz) caster sugar. For the icing and filling: 3tbsp apricot jam, 150g(5oz) plain chocolate (39% cocoa), 150 ml(¼ pint) double cream. Method: Pre heat the oven to 350°F/180°C/fan160°C/Gas 4. Grease two 20cm (8”) deep sandwich tins, line the base of each tin with baking parchment. Blend the cocoa and boiling water in a large bowl, add the remaining cake ingredients and beat until the mixture has become a smooth, thickish batter. Divide the cake mix equally between the prepared tins and level the surface. Bake in the pre heated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes until well risen and the tops of the cakes spring back when lightly pressed with a finger. Leave to cool in the tins for a few minutes then turn out onto a wire cooling tray having peeled off the parchment paper to finish cooling. To make the icing: Warm the apricot jam in a very small pan and then spread a little over the base of one cake and the top of the other. Break the chocolate into pieces and gently heat with the cream in a heat proof bowl set over a pan of simmering water for about 10 minutes or just until the chocolate has melted, stirring occasionally. Remove the bowl from the heat and stir the chocolate mixture to make sure it has completely melted. Leave to cool until it is on the point of setting and then spread on top of the apricot on both cakes. Sandwich the cakes together and use a small palette knife to smooth the icing on top. Keep in a cool place until ready to serve.

Class: 14 Sunshine Bars

Ingredients: 6oz unsalted butter, 6oz set honey, 8oz demerara sugar, 12oz rolled oats, 1 ½ tsps cinnamon, 4oz walnut pieces chopped roughly (opt), 5oz raisins, 5oz ready to eat dried apricots chopped small, 2oz each of pumpkin, sunflower or sesame seeds, 2oz desiccated coconut Method: Melt honey, butter and sugar over a gentle heat. Cook for 5 mins stirring continuously. Bring to the boil and cook for 2 mins until mixture resembles a thick sauce, remove from heat. Combine all the remaining ingredients and then add to wet mixture and mix thoroughly. Line 2 x 12” x 7” tins with greased parchment paper and divide mixture into each tin spreading evenly. Bake at gas 5, 190°C 170°C fan oven of 375°F for 25-30 minutes until golden in colour and firm to touch. When cooked remove from the oven and loosen edges with a knife. Leave in tins for 10 mins, mark and cut into bars and place on a cooling rack to cool completely.
