The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback

Seeking and giving feedback are vital in-gredients to human life. Studies show that you can go only three minutes with-out air, perhaps three days without water,

maybe three weeks without food, and but three hours without offering somebody our suggestions, responses or feedback. A perennial “hot topic” in management circles is the process of seeking and giving feedback. In the famous passage of Peter’s confession (Mt 6:13), Je-sus is seeking feedback: “What do people say of the son of man?” The disciples offered their responses, “For some of them you are John the Baptist, for others Eli-jah, or Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Gathering from their perception and understanding of the people, it was clear that they experienced Jesus as a powerful Prophet.

Probing deeper, Jesus asked, “But who do you say I am?” Peter, as the most courageous disciple, replied, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God”. Pe-ter not only experienced this deeper understanding of Jesus, but also declared the core fact of Christian Faith. The divinity and humanity of Jesus is explained in these famous ten words. Jesus affirmed that this reve-lation is not through human intervention, but directly from God the Father. Jesus affirms Peter as the Rock, and entrusted the whole church to his care as the First Apostle. He noted that the “powers of death shall nev-er overcome it”. Our primary task is to reconnect with our original identity “hidden with Christ in God” (Col, 3:3) as revealed through Peter. The “sin” is the separa-tion from this original goodness and identity.

In honest exchange and feedback, the goodness and greatness of each person can be brought out and expe-rienced. It is said that “feedback is the breakfast of Champions”. We all need people who give genuine feedback. That is how we improve and realize our original potential. Good feedback is key to great improvements in life. When parents and teachers offer positive feedback to children, it brings out their confidence and joy of growth. Whereas, negative feedback can kill the en-thusiasm and lead to discouragement. That is why it is said to sandwich the criticism between two layers of praise. Feedback is like a mirror through which we can see ourselves more clearly.

This week, we experienced the dramatic phenomenon of a solar eclipse. This incredible cosmic event makes us aware that we are all interconnected to the one uni-verse. The global impact of the movement of the plan-ets has daily effects on our lives.

Blessings! Fr. Tom

alguien nuestras sugerencias, respuestas u opiniones.

conllevan a desanimarlos.

nuestras vidas. Bendiciones de Paz. Fr. Tom
