Paisley’s Princess Room
When Heather purchased her home, she envisioned
from the first day that this room would one day be a nurs-
ery. It now belongs to her daughter Paisley and incorpo-
rates the rest of her home's style with a soft color palette
and crisp ivories and whites.
"I have always loved birds and how small and delicate
they are, yet they can do something that we all wish we
could: fly. I have known for years that if I ever was
blessed enough to have a girl, I would want to incorpo-
rate the aspect of birds into her room details."
Heather found one element to fall in love with an built the
room from there. She chosethe Kravet fabric on the pil-
low in her glider. "I saw the fabric in a magazine and
poured over the Internet trying to find someone who sold
it. When I did, I had it made into a pillow and just let the
color theme flow from there."
Heather loves the way the crib looks antiqued and
adores the little stone birds she found in a boutique shop
on The University of Oklahoma’s campus. "It’s also a
shop right next to the coffee house where my husband I
had our first date in college."
Paisley loves her Aden + Anais sleep sack and adoresher little A+A blankie so Heather knew she wanted a cribsheet made with the same material. Aden + Anais haveseveral solid shades, so she chose a shade thatmatched the Carousel Design items and it fit right in.
"Paisley’s Mimi, my Mom, made a little ivory canvas withher name in wooden letters and I found an old side tablein a family storage unit that we painted to match the crib.I also took some Nancy Drew books that I could neverput down when I was younger and wrapped them in bluepaper to tie in with the room and put them in a book rackon the nursery wall. I know she is much too young toread them now, but I hope someday that she gets asmuch joy from them as I did.”
"Besides my treasured books, I also had a beautiful mir-ror growing up that I was absolutely in love with. I took itwith me when I first got married and it hung in our bed-room for a few years. When Paisley was born, we put itin the nursery and I love it and all the memories it bringsback to me."
Heather's advice to other moms: find one element thatyou are absolutely in love with or that has sentimentalmeaning to you and build the room around it. "Never tryto copy someone else exactly, make it your own and areflection of your family, that way it will always be uniqueto you and that baby will always know that their room istruly something special and designed with love."

Baby Lifestyles: Where do
you find your party inspiration?
Joanna: Our inspiration starts
with the personality and tastes
of our clients.
BL: How much influence
should an invitation have for a
party’s theme or colors?
Joanna: The invitation is a
preview of the
party. It should
transmit the
concept that is
going to be
present in the
event.
BL: What are
some of your
favorite ways to add spice to
party décor?
Joanna: So many. We defend
that the details make all the
difference. We love to use
flowers, to choose the appro-
priate tableware and all those
graphic elements specific for
each event.
BL: How do you
feel about DIY
projects in par-
ties? What are
some of your fa-
vorites to do?
Joanna: We are
starting to use
some DIY el-
ements. We have
Around the World to

trends are across the Atlantic!
recently made some cups for
tealights using a kind of a lace
and loved the result. The
trends in Portugal know are
decorated cookies and paper
flowers.
BL: What are some of your fa-
vorite parties you have thrown
and why? What did you love
about each?
Joanna: The are two parties
that have marked us. One
theme was Angry Birds. We
loved to see the look on the
boys faces that usually don't
pay so much attention to these
details, just looking at the
details with the characters
they like dazzled. The other
one was one theme ballet. It's
every little girl’s dream, every-
thing pink and very romantic.
BL: What’s the best part about
creating desserts for parties?
Joanna: Imagining the
desserts by colour.
BL: Are dessert tables popu-
lar in Portugal?
Joanna: Yes, in the past year
we have seen the concept of
sweet table design has in-
creased very much in Portu-
gal.
BL: What’s your favorite and
least favorite thing about
dessert tables?
Joanna: I love all the details,
the symmetry, the usability of
everything used individually.
The least thing is when I see
that people are not eating just
to not spoil the table.
BL: How do you incorporate
dessert tables into the theme
of the party?
Joanna: With the food, but
also with the decorations and
colors of the party
BL: Desserts come in trends,
like the cake pop for instance.
What is the dessert you must
have on your table in Portugal?
Joanna: Macarrons. They are
becoming more and more
popular every day.
BL: What trends do you see in
baby showers? In first birthday
parties in Portugal?
Joanna: Decorated cookies
are really big right now. And
clients are asking for person-
alized chocolate bar wrappers
to match the theme.
BL: What trends are on their
way out?
Joanna: Very elaborated
cakes. I believe the trend now
is to preserve the classic format
of a cake with a light touch of
the theme of the event. I see
many more cakes that are just
colored than highly decorated.
BL: What’s the best party
planning advice you ever got?
Joanna: To think of several
different activities for the chil-
dren to do. If you only have
one set aside for them, they
might like it. It’s always good
to have backup.
BL: What advice do you offer
your clients in the proces of
planning their party?
Joanna: Schedule the steps
of the planning as much as
possible and always keep
calm!

Vintage Hot Air Balloon Fantasy
By Leslie Simmons
Photographer Leslie Simmons had so much funplanning her twins' second birthday. She couldn't
wait to decide what theme she should choose for theparty and one of her favorite ideas was a vintage hotair balloon theme. By making the floating orb themevintage inspired, Leslie could incorporate the pastel
colors she loves like pink, yellow, and light blue.
Leslie used a good friend who is a graphic designerto help design the hot air balloon themed
invitations. Once finalized they were printed on watercolor paper.

e first piece of decor Leslie designed was thedessert table and branched off from there with
details and decor. "I gave the idea and color schemeand invitation to my cake decorator and knew she
would come up with something amazing! I love howthe hot air balloons cascade up the cake and are also
attacked by the string of flags!" Her father in law designed little wood baskets to hang on the Chinese
lanterns to create gorgeous hot air balloons to goover the cake table.
Leslie also served delicious cake pops floating over marshmallow clouds in basket-esque tins she foundat Michael's. “I also gave the invitation to the cookie
designer and she nailed my vision for hot air balloon cookies and cloud cookies.”
We had the party in our backyard so we brought in a tent. I ordered Chinese lanterns of all sizes to
hang from the ceiling of the tent to mimic the ideaof hot air balloons. We put the sides on the tent and had a craft table ready for the kids and we
were going to work with it. We had a bounce houseand huge inflatable ball for the kids entertainment!
We had hot and cold paninis, potato salad, chips as well as pizza for the kids. ere was also pink
lemonade for the kids and sangria for the adults. Everyone had a blast!
